Chapter 85: Schemes after Schemes
Han Ziyan immediately went looking for Han Ruochen. She wanted to coax the woman into giving her money—in the past, all she needed was to bring up her identity as the adopted daughter and how it was difficult for her, and Han Ruochen would give her money. Even though she knew that it would be a bit hard, given that Han Ruochen was now wary of her, Han Ziyan didn’t believe that Han Ruochen had changed so much that she would ignore even her tears!
Or maybe she didn’t want to believe it.
After some consideration, Han Ziyan raised her hand and knocked on her sister’s door. "Sister, are you in there? Can I come in?"
"What are you knocking on her door for?" When Meng Yunhan heard Han Ziyan’s voice, she walked out of her room and called out to her. "That wretched girl has already gone out to the shore with that jinx from the Tong family. I have no idea what is going on in the head of that girl. She would rather share her knowledge with that jinx instead of you. She doesn’t even care about our family, and yet your father treats her as if she is some kind of living bodhisattva."
Meng Yunhan clearly had many complaints and opinions when it came to her second daughter. That woman was clearly born to go against her. Clearly, she was her daughter, but she would rather trust that old woman who had never shown her face in this house than trust her mother. Meng Yunhan still stubbornly believed that she did nothing wrong and it was Han Yichen and his children who owed it to her.
When Han Ziyan heard that Han Ruochen had gone out, she wanted to follow her, but she stopped herself in her tracks when she saw how hot it had become. The summer sun was already up in the sky, even though it was only ten in the morning. She knew that if she stepped out now, then her skin would turn tan. Unlike Han Ruochen, she was born with a special constitution.
While Han Ruochen’s skin suffered minimal damage, the same couldn’t be said about her. Her skin would turn tan even if she spent only a few minutes in the sun.
I might as well wait for her to return; anyway, she will come back home in the end.
Han Ziyan was determined to snatch the money from Han Ruochen’s hands; thus, she immediately made up her mind to hog Han Ruochen until she gave up.
Han Ruochen had no idea that she was being schemed against. After packing up her things at her grandmother’s house, she went to the beach with Tong Zhaodi. Because the weather was hot and fishing took a lot of time, Han Ruochen brought a few sun hats and sunscreen with her. She went to the mudflat where she had found the mantis shrimp a few days ago.
In the past, the villagers hardly came to the seashore when it was low tide, but who knows what stimulated them; there were quite a lot of people at the shore this morning.
Aunt Gossip, Aunt Jiang, and Aunt Niu were all crouching on the mudflat with their children and grandchildren.
Even Old Uncle Xiao and his good friend Uncle Li were there.
Tong Zhaodi looked at the crowd in the mudflat and was stunned. "What is this? What is going on?"
She had never seen so many of the villagers coming to scout for seafood when it was low tide; as far as she knew, only children would come outside when it was low tide, and given that the tide was really low today, even children would never come out of their houses, but it seemed like today was some special scenario. Forget about children; even adults and the elderly came to look for seafood.
Han Ruochen was also a bit speechless when she saw the people on the beach, but who could blame them? No one would be upset about having too much money, would they? Anyway, after they saw Han Ruochen collect such rare and expensive seafood even when it was a low tide, of course, they would also want to follow suit.
"Are we still going?" Tong Zhaodi nervously asked; in her eyes, the tide was already low, and the villagers had been scouting for a while now. Maybe nothing good was left on the beach now.
"Go." Han Ruochen didn’t want to return empty-handed. She knew that if she did, then she would be mocked to death by Meng Yunhan. She had to earn something now that she had sold her job. What was more, she only had six months before the swine flu trouble started. She couldn’t waste anymore time. She had to come up with a backup plan.
Han Ruochen walked over to the beach and looked around. She knew that with the low tide, she might not get a lot of things. She turned the system on and then casually pointed to a corner. "That place is spitting water; you should go and check it out."
With water bubbles being formed in a place, it could only mean that there was something inside the ground.
She handed the extractor to Tong Zhaodi, who took it without saying anything and then went to look for the seafood underneath the ground.
Han Ruochen, on the other hand, took the things and went to a place where there were few people. Now her scanning range was a bit wider than before. The added few metres didn’t seem much, but there were added benefits. She stopped where she knew the zebra mantises were hiding and went to work.
At the same time, some villagers surrounded Tong Zhaodi, and the sound of exclamations came from behind her. Han Ruochen didn’t turn to look, as she knew that the spot which she asked Tong Zhaodi to dig had three mantis shrimps. So it was not surprising that the villagers were exclaiming so loudly.
Han Ruochen also didn’t waste any time. She took the shrimp extractor and went straight to work.
