Chapter 61: Second Grandpa Zhai

Han Ziyan felt her heart jump to her throat, and she stammered, "That’s enough, sister. It’s bad enough that you have caused our parents to fight; now you are even spitting out baseless accusations. Have you lost your mind?"

Han Ziyan was really scared. It was terrifying that just because of some gossip flying in the village, Han Ruochen came so close to the truth. She was worried that if she didn’t nip the bud before it bloomed, Han Ruochen might really catch her and her mother’s tail.

"There is no need to be so scared," sneered Han Ruochen. "I was just saying this out of anger; after all, no one would be able to respect their parent after finding out that they were trying to sell them off."

Han Ziyan clenched her fists. She was angry at Han Ruochen for fighting tooth and nail, and she was also angry at the villagers. This was their family matter; it had nothing to do with them. What did they mean by that Han Ruochen was better than her in every way, and they could not withstand the injustice? What kind of injustice was this? So, what if Han Ruochen was married off to an old man? At least that man would be rich!

And it wasn’t like they were marrying off their daughters, so why did they tell the truth to Han Ruochen?

No wonder no amount of cajoling could get Han Ruochen to transfer the job to her. Han Ruochen had known all along that their mother had taken out all of their family savings, including her own savings as well.

"Han Yichen, are you at home?" Just then, an elderly voice called out from outside.

Han Ruochen, who was pulling Han Jianyou upstairs, paused and turned to look behind her. "Second Grandpa Zhai?"

Han Ziyan’s countenance fell even further. This prominent elder rarely came out of his house, and even when she had invited him to their house, he never agreed to her invitation. So, why was he suddenly coming here?

Han Ziyan was not worried that Han Yichen and Meng Yunhan would disregard the situation and quarrel in front of Second Uncle Zhai. What she was worried about was that the old man would tell her father about all the strings that her mother had asked Second Uncle Zhai to pull for her brother by using Han Yichen’s name and making Han Ziyan’s father a distant cousin whom she cared about a lot.

Second Uncle Zhai didn’t know about the situation at her mother’s natal home and thus, never asked any questions nor did he get suspicious. But her adoptive father was different. She knew that her mother had two elder brothers and no cousins. At least not in her direct natal family. Even if she had a distant cousin, she had clearly fought with them and didn’t have any good relationships with them.

Han Yichen knew about it all. If he were to find out the truth, he would definitely lose his temper and get suspicious.

Her mother couldn’t control her adoptive father when he found out that all the savings had been spent. How was she going to control her father if he were to find out that they had sought Second Uncle Zhai?

After Han Yichen’s father passed away, it was Second Uncle Zhai and Grandpa Zhai who helped Han Yichen by lending him money to establish a pig farm. They even help him connect with the powerful figures to aid in his business. It was all because the two of them were good friends with Grandpa Han. If not, they would have never helped Han Yichen, and it would have caused him even more trouble.

It was because of this that Han Yichen never dared to go in front of Second Uncle Zhai and Grandpa Zhai after he repaid them.

Because Han Yichen was ashamed of facing the two elders after he married Meng Yunhan, even when they strongly opposed him, he had never appeared in front of them. And yet, Meng Yunhan had shamelessly sought them and even asked them to help her lover. If her adoptive father found out the truth, he would be so furious that he would chase Meng Yunhan with the same cleaver with which he had snapped the cabinet.

When Han Ruochen heard that Second Uncle Zhai had come looking for her father, she decided that it was time for them to straighten up. Anyway, now that her father knew about the passbook, he would not stop her from fishing nor would he allow Meng Yunhan to arrange a match for her. He would be the first to oppose if a matchmaker came looking for Meng Yunhan.

Han Ruochen patted Han Jianyou on the head and said to him, "Go and tell Dad that Second Uncle Zhai is here."

Han Jianyou nodded. He still looked a bit dumb after processing all the information that was loaded in his little head, and he ran to the room where his father was still quarrelling with his mother. "Dad, stop quarrelling. Second grandpa Zhai is here to see you." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Second Uncle Zhai?" Han Yichen’s tensed demeanour slightly relaxed.

Han Jianyou nodded and then glanced at his mother. Usually, whenever his mother saw him, she would start yelling at him as if she had seen her greatest enemy, but this time she was not only quiet, she was as silent as a quail. How could she not when Han Yichen asked her where she spent Han Jianyou’s fee money? If she were to say anything to Han Jianyou, she was worried that the man would skin her alive.

What was more, when she heard that Second Grandpa Zhai had come looking for her husband, she was so frightened that she could not wait to find a hiding place.

Why is that old man here? What does he want to do? Meng Yunhan wondered worriedly. She hoped that the elder didn’t come here to disclose her secret or else she would be done for!
