Chapter 60: What A Way To Hide Misdeed
"You are not going to fetch it, are you?" Han Yichen no longer wanted to waste anymore time with Meng Yunhan. He had always felt guilty for ruining Meng Yunhan’s reputation when they were young. Because of his own selfishness, he ruined a good woman. That was why, when she suggested that she wanted to take control of the finances of his family, he agreed, and he even handed all the money that he earned to her. She was not the type to squander their entire family fortune, at least that was what he believed. After all, she had never touched the savings even after their kids grew up. Thus, he trusted her quite a bit.
Han Yichen felt guilty toward Meng Yunhan, and he would sometimes turn a blind eye to many of the things, but that didn’t mean that he was an idiot who couldn’t understand what was going on. He turned on his feet and started to search for the key. He didn’t find the key where it was supposed to be and straight up marched to Meng Yunhan’s wardrobe, where he turned the contents upside down.
But when he didn’t see the key, he gritted his teeth and went to the kitchen, where he found a cleaver and rushed to the wooden cabinet.
This was the first time Meng Yunhan had seen Han Yichen so angry and violent. She was scared, but her pride didn’t let her back down. She glared at the man and shouted at him, "You...what are you doing, Han Yichen? After what you did to me—"
CLANG!
Meng Yunhan was trying her best to use her old tactics, which always made Han Yichen give up, but this time around, it was not her husband she was facing but Han Ruochen’s father. The sound of the cabinet being broken echoed in the house, and Meng Yunhan turned even paler. She rushed inside the room, and when she saw Han Yichen picking up the passbook lying among the remnants of the cabinet, she was so scared that her heart lurched in her throat.
"Old Han, what are you doing?" Meng Yunhan had a guilty look on her face. When she was emptying the money of the Han family, she didn’t feel guilty because she thought that Han Yichen would never be able to find out, but now that the man was holding the passbook in his hands, she was scared out of her wits. When she thought that Han Yichen would find out that there was nothing left in the passbook. At that thought, she lunged at him in an attempt to take the passbook from him.
However, Han Yichen was more than six feet tall; how could a short and dainty woman like Meng Yunhan reach him? She couldn’t snatch the passbook and even tripped on a block of wood.
Han Yichen opened the passbook, and when he looked at the content of it, his face turned red and blue. Boiling with rage, he bellowed, "WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY?"
Han Yichen’s roar could be heard all over the village. Han Ziyan turned a shade whiter, and she was scared stiff.
They were done for this time. There was no way they would be able to keep this secret under wraps anymore.
She turned to look at Han Ruochen, who was holding Han Beijiang in one arm and holding Han Jianyou, who was scared, with her other hand. She pointed at her as if she was accusing Han Ruochen of some grave sin and shouted at her, "Sister, how can you do this to our mother? That is our Mom. No matter how angry you are, how can you do such a thing to her?" She started scolding Han Ruochen as if she were in the right.
If not for Han Ruochen, who kept pressing the matter, how could her foolish adoptive father ever find out what her mother had done?
Her adoptive father had listened to her mother, and if she said to head east, he wouldn’t dare to go west. But because of Han Ruochen, her adoptive father caused such a fuss.
And more than the money disappearing from the account, the one thing that Han Ziyan was scared about was that her adoptive father would find out that her mother had taken the money to her biological father. If Han Yichen found out the truth, would he still let her and her mother stay with him? Of course not. No man would withstand being cuckolded.
"That’s right, she is my mom. But she spent all of the savings of our family, and to fill that hole, she didn’t hesitate to sell me to an old man. For you, she is willing to fight tooth and nail and wouldn’t even let someone say that you should share the same fate as me, but she has no trouble snatching my good fiancé and handing him to you. That’s really what a mom is supposed to do." Han Ruochen was so angry that she laughed. Wanted to trip her morally? Sorry, she left them behind in her past life.
"You did it on purpose!" Han Ruochen had deliberately brought up this matter because she wanted to drag her and her mother down.
"The best way to hide a misdeed is not to commit it. You think the villagers won’t talk about Mom’s remarks? Or that no one would tell me? I am better than you in every way, but Mom kept asking the matchmaker to arrange a match with the grandson of the previous chief of the army. As for me, she was looking for an old man. Just think about what the villagers must have thought when they realised what Mother was doing? Tell me, which mother will sell off her biological daughter for the sake of an adoptive one? Sometimes I even wonder if you are the daughter of my late aunt or my mom’s. Why else is she so good to you?"
