Chapter 390: Sailing
Han Ruochen had no idea that so many things would happen at once after she left the hospital. She hurried all the way over to the docks and asked the sea scanning system to load the map that Zhai Heng had given to her. If not for the fact that she was in a hurry to make as much money as possible, she would have never thought of steering her boat over to these places. After all, the currents were too strong, and if she was not careful, then there was a good chance that she might end up never returning.
But—did she even have a choice? If she had known that her father would end up getting into an accident, then she would have definitely never purchased that piece of land. What was more, there was something that kept nagging at the back of her head. In her past life, her father never got into an accident, and that too, such a deadly one. Her father was skilled when it came to taming the pigs. So how come he ended up getting stampeded by one?
There was something amiss in this case, but Han Ruochen had no time to go to the pig farm and deal with things. She needed to collect some money first!
"Sister Ruochen!"
Just as she was about to untie her boat and head to the sea, Tong Zhaodi came running. Her two pigtails were swinging back and forth as she rushed toward Han Ruochen. "Sister Ruochen, is Uncle Han alright? I heard from my mom that he ended up being sent to the hospital. Is everything alright? Do you need my help?" As she finished speaking, she could not help but flush red in shame and added, "I would have come to look for you at the hospital, but my mother stopped me from looking for you."
Her mother was worried that Han Ruochen would ask for the salary that she had given Tong Zhaodi and thus forbade her from going anywhere. She even locked Tong Zhaodi up when the latter insisted that she wanted to go to the hospital. If not for the fact that her mother wanted her to go to the shore and collect some seafood for tonight’s dinner, Tong Zhaodi would still be locked up at home. It was only after finding out that Han Yichen had passed the most critical period that Madam Tong let her come out.
Han Ruochen knew the virtues of the Tong family and did not get angry with Tong Zhaodi. She shook her head and said to her, "It’s alright. I don’t blame you." Anyway, in such situations, even the family members were not willing to help. She couldn’t lose her temper with Tong Zhaodi, knowing what kind of life she lived in the Tong family. Could she?
Tong Zhaodi heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that Han Ruochen was not angry with her. She was worried that Han Ruochen would definitely blame her after finding out that she never went to visit her. "How about Uncle Han? Is he doing better now?"
"He is fine now, though he is yet to regain consciousness."
"Then...you—" Tong Zhaodi looked at Han Ruochen, who was about to embark on another sea hunt. She thought that Uncle Han was awake and that Han Ruochen wanted to collect some seafood to nourish his body, but if he was still unconscious, then what was Han Ruochen doing here?
"Isn’t it because I have no money? You already know that my mother has wasted all of our savings and that her current earnings are not enough to even pay for my dad’s surgery. We had to borrow a lot of money from outside, and we still need money for all kinds of things. Even a stay at the hospital for an entire day costs forty yuan. Where will we get the money from?" Han Ruochen shook her head without lowering her voice, making sure that all the aunts who were weaving the nets knew what was going on.
Han Ruochen was not lying when she said that she needed money. The twenty-one thousand yuan that she had in her bank was only enough to return a part of the money that she had borrowed from Zhai Muchen. Even then, she was falling short on four thousand yuan, and then there were the charges for the hospital as well as the household expenses.
She had seen her mother’s skills and knew that there was no point in even thinking about relying on her mother. Her mother would rather starve the entire family to death as long as she could save even a penny for the Yun family. How could she expect Meng Yunhan to take care of Han Yichen during this period? Then there were the expenses of her two younger brothers.
Han Ruochen was getting a headache just thinking about it.
"Ah, then why didn’t you call me?" Tong Zhaodi could not help but ask with a frown. Was Han Ruochen really unhappy with her? She could not help but ask in a hurry, "Sister Ruochen, are you angry with me?"
"No, why are you asking such a thing?"
"Then why are you going to the sea alone? Did I do something wrong?" Tong Zhaodi asked nervously. It wasn’t that she was greedy, but if Han Ruochen kicked her out, then she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to survive. Her mother and younger brother had gotten used to taking the twenty yuan every time she went to the sea; if she suddenly stopped handing them the money, then Tong Zhaodi was sure that her mother would beat her to death.
Han Ruochen: "..."
She did not know whether to laugh or cry. "Of course not. It’s because the destination where I am sailing is dangerous."
Since the destination was too risky, she did not dare to take anyone with her.
"Sister Ruochen, how can this be done?" Tong Zhaodi stomped her feet when she heard Han Ruochen’s response. "You have taken care of me for so long; how can I let you go alone because the path is a risky one? Since I have followed you when things were bright and sunny, of course I should also follow you when it rains."
