Chapter 336: Mother Xiao
Han Ruochen understood Village Head Xiao’s predicament. She knew that the man was unwilling to get involved in their family matters and nodded with a soft smile. "Village Head, there is no need to clarify such matters. Anyway, it has been so many years; without evidence, there is no point in holding anyone accountable." The village head must be worried that she would rush to hold her mother accountable for the things she had done and confront her, but Han Ruochen was not a true twenty-year-old woman who would lose her composure so easily.

At least it would have been better than letting this guilt weigh on his heart all these years. Now that he had told his suspicions to Han Ruochen, he felt a bit relieved. At least he did not stay silent till the end!

Even if the two of them did not love one another, there was still mutual respect. If Old Madam Han rushed to question the two of them without getting clear evidence of what happened, then Meng Yunhan might turn things around on her.

Han Ruochen snapped out of her thoughts and turned to look at the man who came running toward her. She frowned when she saw it was none other than Xiao Yuzhe, the village head’s son. She paused in her steps and looked at the man with some confusion in her eyes, as Han Ruochen and he had never conversed with one another before.
"Brother Yunze, is something the matter?" Han Ruochen asked softly.
When Xiao Yunze heard her voice, he could not help but blush. He had never seen a woman as good-looking as Han Ruochen before, and even though the two of them were not even acquaintances, he still felt his heart thump while standing in front of Han Ruochen. However, he still tried to act calm in front of Han Ruochen even though his heart was jumping around in his chest. "It’s nothing. Someone from the school called; it seems like Jianyou has got into trouble, and they have asked the parents to come to school. Someone did call your home, but when no one replied, they called the village."
When Han Ruochen heard that Han Jianyou had got into trouble, she could not help but furrow her brows. What happened? As far as she knew, Han Jianyou had started to study properly and was no longer hanging out with those thugs. How come he suddenly ended up in trouble? However, she did not say her doubts out loud and nodded gratefully. "Thank you for telling me, Brother Yunze."
It was a good thing that he told her and not her mother. If Meng Yunhan had found out that Han Jianyou was in trouble, then she would have ignored his matters without a care in the world.
"There is no need to thank me over something so simple." Xiao Yunze waved his hand. He felt flustered when Han Ruochen raised her head and looked at him with her starry eyes. This was his first time standing so close to Han Ruochen, and he could not help but feel a bit itchy. He often heard from the men of the village that Han Ruochen was the most beautiful woman of the village, but he had never paid any attention to her.
But after meeting her, he realised that the men in the village did not do justice to Han Ruochen’s beauty. She was not just the most beautiful woman of the village; she was the most beautiful woman in the entire county! He had never seen someone as pretty as her.
Han Ruochen nodded and took her leave. But even when she walked quite far away, Xiao Yunze was still looking at her with a dazed look on his face as if he could not get enough of her.
