Chapter 312: Divorce Her (II)
"Sister, what nonsense are you spouting? How can you urge big brother to divorce sister-in-law?" Han Ziyan’s eyes could not help but widen. She had heard from her mother that Han Yong used to date a girl when he was young and that girl was from a big official family. Her mother had used all the tricks in the books to make the two of them break up. If Han Yong divorced and ended up getting entangled with that woman again, who knows what would happen to them? They could not let anyone from the Han family rise too high or else her mother and she would be the ones in trouble.
Han Ruochen smirked. She turned to look at Han Ziyan, whose eyes were as wide as alarm bells and said in a low voice, "What do you mean? Am I supposed to watch my brother getting bullied? You heard how she treats our big brother and yet instead of feeling angry on his behalf, you are eager to defend an outsider."
When Han Ziyan heard Han Ruochen’s accusation, her face could not help but turn pale. She shook her head and hurriedly said, "No...that is not the case...I did not." She turned to look at Han Yong and tried to prove her innocence. "Big brother, it’s not like that at all. I was not trying to defend an outsider...I just think that the matter has not risen to the point where you should divorce sister-in-law. After all, destroying a marriage is even more sinful than destroying a temple."
"Then according to you, how much should I suffer before the matter could be taken as serious enough for a divorce?" Han Yong deadpanned. He did not like his adoptive sister. And after his suspicions of her being the illegitimate daughter of his mother started to sprout in his heart, he started to dislike her even more. He had not found any evidence yet but he just couldn’t shake off those words that were planted in his heart. What was more, if he were to look carefully at Han Ziyan, he could actually see the shadow of his mother in her. Especially those eyes of hers.
They were just like their mother’s!
Han Ziyan spluttered. She did not know what to say at the moment. She wanted to stop Han Yong from divorcing Xu Yuanshu such that he wouldn’t be able to find a wife from a good family background, but at the same time she had nothing that she could use to defend Xu Yuanshu. Who asked this woman to bully an honest man to the point where he wanted to rebel?
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but glare at Xu Yuanshu; this was all her fault! She could have easily wrapped this man around her little finger and yet she was causing trouble by acting like a spoiled mistress.
Xu Yuanshu did not feel that she had done anything wrong. Han Yong did not treat her well nor did he love her. Even though she had been married for so many years, he had never touched her. If not for the fact that she had a few lovers, she would be living like a widow. So what was wrong with her if she wanted to splurge some money on herself?
Her husband could not give her happiness, so she wanted to spend his money. Why was everyone looking at her as if she did something wrong? However, no matter what Xu Yuanshu thought, she knew that she could not say anything at that moment. So, she simply lowered her head and stayed put.
"You shut up for me!" Meng Yunhan was also just as flustered as Han Ziyan. Only she knew how much she had to scheme to get her son married to this useless niece of hers. If he had married that official’s daughter, then she was worried that she and Yun Xinye would be done for. She glared at Han Ruochen and said to her, "No one will treat you as mute if you don’t speak."
She then turned to look at her in-laws before saying, "We will talk with Ah Yong. don’t worry, in laws we will give you a reasonable explanation—"
"There is no explanation." Han Yong had enough of it. He stood up from the couch and looked at his entire family before stating coldly, "I have declared the business as bankrupt and I am not going to pick it up again, if someone wants to do it, then they are free to pick up my slacks but I am not. All these years I have lived for others and now I am doing something that I like, so no one can stop me."
After he finished speaking, he didn’t look at his mother and walked out of the house.
"That...that boy!" Meng Yunhan was fuming mad when she saw how Han Yong was refusing to listen to her. It was bad enough that Han Ruochen was not willing to listen to her but now even Han Yong was getting out of her hands. She turned to look at her husband and demanded, "Are you going to let him ruin himself like this? He is skilled in business; you and I both have seen it. Why are you not stopping him?" what was more, Han Yong slapped her in the face in front of her in-laws; that was too much. With this incident everyone in the Xu family would come to know that her children did not respect her.
How could she not be upset?
Han Yichen closed his eyes and pinched the space between his brows. He felt a headache rising. Even though his son was acting out of the line, he did not think that Han Yong was wrong. His son had worked hard sincerely for all these years and in the end he didn’t receive anything. So what was the point of working so hard? It was better to live his own life.
He sighed and said, "The children have grown up; we cannot ask them to listen to us blindly."
