Chapter 167: Putting Crab Cages
Han Yichen was worried that Meng Yunhan would not take his words seriously and continue with exorbitant actions unceremoniously by spending all her money on Han Ziyan’s demands. He knew that the woman was used to asking him for money, but after being scolded by his mother, Han Yichen did not dare to take even a penny out for these two. One agreed to marry his daughter off to a widower; the other agreed to snatch the future husband of his daughter.
If they did not keep their guard up, this family would soon turn into the Meng family.
"You–you, how can you be so heartless? Ziyan is destined to do big things. I heard from the old master that she is destined to become a rich wife and live a very successful life. How can you simply ignore her? Are you not worried that she will one day turn unfilial to you?"
Meng Yunhan was dumbfounded. Since when did Han Yichen become so heartless toward her and Ziyan? What kind of spell did that Han Ruochen cast on her husband that he became so heartless and cruel to them!?
Han Yichen was not scared. He simply snorted and said to Meng Yunhan, "I have raised that girl since she was a baby. From her nappies to her education, I paid for everything, even when she was not my responsibility. Tell me who here will treat an unrelated child as well as I have? You want to question me? Who should I question then? Anyway, if Ziyan doesn’t want to be kind to me even when I took care of her for so long and gave her the best of everything, then it is not that I failed her. It means that I raised a white-eyed wolf!"
In the past, he had listened to his wife, who kept whispering in his ears, saying that Han Ziyan was pitiful and that she was suffering a lot because of her status as an adopted daughter. But not anymore.
His mother was right. Even if he wanted to treat Han Ziyan well, it didn’t mean that he should ignore his own children. He was really too muddleheaded. And looking at how Han Ziyan selfishly tried to snatch her own sister’s fiancé, even when Han Ruochen treated her so well, Han Yichen had no hope for Han Ziyan. He might as well save his own money and take care of himself in his old age, rather than relying on someone like Han Ziyan.
His mother was right.
Han Ruochen had treated Han Ziyan like her little sister, and yet that girl could do such a despicable thing. What hope did he have for her? Even the thought alone that Han Ziyan would be filial to him was laughable.
After he finished talking, he turned on his feet and went to the bathroom to freshen up. He had been working the entire day and was really tired.
Meng Yunhan, on the other hand, was furious. She sat in the living room crying silently as she wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes.
Han Ruochen watched everything silently and did not say a thing. She waited for her mother to go back to her bedroom and then left the house with crab cages. As soon as she arrived at the shore, she ran into Tong Zhaodi. The poor girl looked quite dishevelled, and it seemed like she had been beaten by her mother again. Seeing this, even if Han Ruochen wanted to ignore her, she couldn’t help but say, "Zhaodi, how long are you going to let this thing go on?"
"You are eighteen and not eight; if you want to separate from your family, you can do that."
What was the point in staying in such a family? Not only did they beat her up at the drop of a hat, but they also did not even feel ashamed for using Tong Zhaodi’s name and eating free lunches at the state-run restaurant. The amount was so big that if Tong Zhaodi were not with her, then she would never be able to repay it.
"Separate?" Tong Zhaodi was stunned. She had been beaten a lot of times before, but she had never thought of separating from her family.
When Han Ruochen saw her like this, she was both angry and amused. It seemed like Mother Tong was quite good at brainwashing herself. She rolled her eyes and said, "Yes, separate. Your mother and brother are like leeches; even if you are kind to them, they will not treat you well. So you might as well separate from them after talking with the village head, or else you will be sold without even knowing when they harmed you."
As she spoke, she walked over to the shore; with the sea scanning system, she could see what was under the sea and started to set up the crab cages. Behind her, Tong Zhaodi also rushed to help, but her mind was not at work, and she was thinking about what Han Ruochen said to her. In fact, it was not that Tong Zhaodi did not want to separate from her family, but she did not have the courage to do so.
Han Ruochen also noticed her hesitation, but she did not say anything.
She would leave the matter be anyway; given the situation, the Tong family would sooner or later disappoint Tong Zhaodi to the point where she would separate from them.
Han Ruochen silently put the bait in the crab cage and then straightened up.
"Oh, Ruochen, you are here?" Old Master Luo walked over when he saw Han Ruochen crouching near the shore. "Are you putting crab cages? How many did you put?"
"Seven."
When Old Master Luo heard that she had only put seven cages, he could not help but laugh. "What is the point of putting just seven cages? I placed twenty and only got four sardines."
These sardines were really small, and they couldn’t be sold for a lot of money. Only when they sold five jin of sardines could they earn ten yuan.
"It’s okay; this is my first time trying. I am simply putting them here for fun," said Han Ruochen with a smile. Whether the harvest was going to be bountiful or not, they would know tomorrow.
