Chapter 97: Wager

Jacob had sat indoors for too long and had gotten bored of it, he decided to see fun what the Wutherhorn manor held in store.

He straightened himself up, leaving Xenia in the room by herself to her cultivation, she had already surpassed the Divine realm by now and crossed over into the Celestial Mid Realm, a testament to her religious cultivation practices and her training with the Great Sage.

She didn’t question him as he walked out of the room and let the door close behind him with a soft click, she only opened one eye and sighed.

She already had an idea of where he was going so she wouldn’t pry any further, she would only fetch him if he stayed too long out.

Yes, she was that protective of him, treated him as a mother would, and looked at him as a lover would. Even she could not explain her sentiments towards the young man, they had just grown too close to think too deeply about things of that nature.

Jacob strolled across the halls in a lackadaisical manner, he still felt the presence he felt when he hard first arrived at the estate, observing him very closely.

He knew what it was, but he didn’t challenge it out in the open, he would do so when the time was right. He didn’t think about it again.

If the Wutherhorn Manor was anything like the Ironfell stronghold, then there would be a training ground.

He stopped a maiden as she seemed to be heading somewhere in a rush, all of them did, walking fast with her gaze fixed downwards.

He asked her where the training ground was and sure enough she knew where it was. In less than thirty seconds she described where the training ground was and scurried off. She spoke fast, very fast, but due to Jacob’s heightened assimilation, he was able to pick up every word.

He strolled towards the training ground, not carrying who’s privacy he was intruding or what lay ahead.

When he got to the training ground. The first thing he noticed was that it looked nothing like the Ironfell arena, it was more like gym than a training ground.

Jacob looked around, the walls had the sigil of the Wutherhorns etched onto them, and a single black rug was placed stylishly in the middle of the room.

There were about eight men—most likely soldiers—training when he walked in.

Their bodies were covered in perspiration and they were all built—chiseled— was the word.

He carefully leaned against the wall and watched as they sparred and trained, some were doing cardio, some were fighting, one particular guy was just reading a book.

Even though they seemed strong, none of them seemed powerful enough to be worth his time or energy, he was already about to leave when one of them called out to him.

"Young Lord!" The voice tore through the room and made the other men halt their activities immediately.

Jacob turned around to meet the sight of the man who was previously reading. He now stood in front of the white-haired young man, he was bulky, had his hair shaved short, and a few dozen scars on his chiseled arms and back.

"Young Lord, it is a pleasure to have you here in our training center." The man spoke confidently. "I am Manu, and these are my colleagues."

"The pleasure is all mine."

"Young Lord, we have heard great things about you, of your exploits, specifically how you healed the Primarch—and I must say, it is an honor to be in your presence. Allow me to ask a favor." Manu bowed his head.

"What is it?" Jacob inquired, raising an eyebrow, why would someone he just met want to ask a favor of him? He decided to hear the man out regardless.

"My Lord, it would be my greatest pleasure to spar with you, I want to feel the might of the man who gained the favor of our Primarch." Manu’s head was still bowed, the other men just looked at him as he spoke to the tall, white-haired, handsome young man.

Jacob looked at him, he had originally been looking for someone to spar with, as he was bored out of his mind. But seeing the strength level of the soldiers here, he became discouraged and was about to leave.

He looked at the man again, he didn’t mind sparring, but—

Just then, a huge exclamation mark appeared above his head, something that would make the day interesting. He smiled mischievously and told the man to raise his head.

"I’ll spar..." Jacob started, seeing that the man began to smile, his smile was very wide as he had a wide mouth. "...With all of you."

The men’s eyes widened in shock, they began to murmur amongst themselves, wondering how the young man was going to fight them all one after the other.

Many finally decided to ask the question for them. "My lord, surely you can’t fight all of us one after the other, you’ll be worn out by the time you’re done."

"You think so low of me, Manu, I never said anything about fighting you one after the other..." Jacob smiled, he noticed the confused look on the men’s faces, he knew neither of them would be expecting what he had to say next. "...I’ll take all of you at once."

Jacob’s words made the room go deathly silent, all the men stood in a daze, how was this young man going to take all eight of them at once!?

But before any of them could speak, Jacob’s mouth opened again.

"And to make it more interesting... I will fight without weapons, you all can pick any weapon of your choosing. If you are able to land a hit, you will receive ten thousand gold coins from yours truly."

"What!? Ten thousand?" A reasonable reaction escaped Manu’s mouth, for a man who was paid decently, he had never seen ten thousand gold coins at once in his life.

The men began to to murmur to themselves, Jacob only stood in the corner, leaning on the wall and awaiting their response.

Even Manu had joined in their quiet discussion, where they would decide whether to accept the bet or not.

After about thirty minutes, Manu returned to Jacob, he acted as their spokesperson, as none of them seemed to want to talk to him after the wager he just made.

"We accept your wager, Young Lord, we will all fight you at once, and we will win that ten thousand gold coins." There was a competitive look on his face, one that suggested that he had considered the offer and truly believed that the young man could not beat all eight of them at once.

Jacob would admit, they all looked strong physically, and he hoped they would make it challenging for him at least.

He watched them as they all huddled up on one end of the room, selecting different weapons that they would use.

Manu picked a spear, and spun it around in his grasp, he seemed very proficient with such a weapon. Some others picked swords, and one person picked nun-chucks.

Jacob only smiled and walked towards them slowly, confidently.

"Are you ready?" He asked.
