Chapter 105: Final Match
There was an eruption of boos in the crowd, most people did not agree with the girl killing her opponent, as it was against the rules.
Finally the announcer spoke up.
"A-As is it a breach of the rules of this prestigious tournament. Stryx Nyvanz had therefore been disqualified from the competition and banned from participation for life."
Celebrations started, most people yelled in agreement, even though they enjoyed the display of power that they had just witnessed, they didn’t want death, they wanted domination.
Stryx still looked uninterested, she raised her head up and looked at Jacob again, smiling in her usual fashion. Jacob wondered why she smiled when she looked at him, this time he decided to smile back.
Once she saw him smiling, she started waving and jumping.
"Come play! Come play!" She yelled out to him from the arena grounds, but her happiness was short lived when the guards came by and dragged her out of the arena.
As punishment for breaking the tournament’s rule of killing, the offender would spend sixty days in the Wutherhorn dungeons, with minimum food and water, and then be banished from the Estate.
Stryx didn’t seem to care very much for punishments or even rewards as she allowed herself to be dragged out of the arena.
Xenia, who had remained silent the whole time, looked at Jacob, wondering why the girl had been smiling at him.
"It’s very rare to see a blood manipulator in these parts." She spoke up.
"Yes it is, I wonder how she travelled all the way here, and by herself." Said Jacob, who was now looking forward to the final fight, where Light would display what he was made of.
Light watched Stryx’s battle from the tunnels and he felt genuinely terrified by her abilities, so much so that he said a small prayer, thanking the heavens that he wouldn’t get to face her in the next stages.
It would soon be time for his battle, he was to face Zeldris, who was a mountain of a man. He crossed his fingers and held a necklace given to him by Amylis on the day she visited him.
It was supposed to be a protection pendant, but he knew it was just a regular one and he accepted it with love anyways.
_ _ _
After the crowd had calmed, following the gory display that they had just witnessed, it was time for the final round. The round that Jacob and a lot of people had been waiting for.
Light Vs Zeldris.
The two men were called one after the other, Zeldris came first, he was a tall man, weighing almost four hundred pounds, his head shaved bald and his chin full of dirty brown beards.
’Savage’ would be an understatement for the creature that emerged out of the tunnels, a theory existed that he and his brother were descendants of the Giant race, no one even dared question it because the similarities were uncanny.
Zeldris stood with his club firmly gripped in his hand, a long wooden bat with sharp spikes at the business end of it. He had a mischievous grin on his face, it wasn’t enough that his stupid brother lost to Christopher Wutherhorn, he had to win by all means.
Light was announced soon after, the red haired young man walked out of the tunnels confidently, with a white band tied around his forehead. It was supposedly to keep the strands of hair away from his face, but he just liked that it made him look cool.
Anissa clutched her chest tightly as she said a short prayer to the gods, she didn’t want a repeat of Raphael’s situation in this battle.
Both men stared at each other, Light had a very serious expression on his face, but Zeldris looked amused. Lights expression slowly changed from seriousness to confusion as he wondered what was so amusing.
"Runaway Wutherhorn. Couldn’t survive in the world alone so you’ve jumped back on your high horse eh?" Zeldris spoke, his deep voice surprisingly echoed against the walls of the arena, his words stung Light like a thousand sharp needles.
Light began to boil inside, but he instantly remembered his training the last two days, it never paid to be angry, anger only makes you sloppy, he mused.
Light smiled. "Good to see you too, Zeldris, poverty is a good look on you, I must say."
Zeldris’ smug grin was completely wiped off his face with that statement. Replaced by a scowl that almost made Light laugh.
"Still got that sharp mouth, I see. Too bad this is the end of the road for you, pissy boy."
’Pissy? Did he just call me pissy? What does that even mean." Light mused inwardly, placing a hand on his chin.
The Primarch watched every single battle stoically, as he had always done, even when Stryx had killed Raphael on the battlefield, or when each of his other sons had conquered their foes, he didn’t move an inch, there was no expression on his face whatsoever.
But he especially paid attention to this particular battle, he was seen to lean slightly forward as he watched Light and Zeldris keenly.
Even Jacob and Xenia leaned forward in their seats, this would either be the battle of the tournament, or the embarrassment of the tournament.
Everything Light ever stood for, was riding on this in this moment. The chance to reclaim his dignity.
Light slowly got on the floor in front of everyone, sat in a lotus position and closed his eyes.
The crowd was surprised at the young man’s actions.
Was he really about to start cultivating in the middle of a fight.
The truth was that this was just a technique that Light had developed, which helped him to stay in tune with his surroundings, he could hear, and see better in this stance, or so he believed.
Jacob smiled, amused that Light would pull out something like this in a high stakes match, but there was still more to be seen.
