Chapter 89: 89- I’m Sorry

Even Brian could sense something was off. Sienna barely touched her food. She sat there silently, pushing rice around her plate.

Across from her, Hunter had been watching her for the last ten minutes. Finally, he placed the fork down, "Sugar."

Sienna looked up instantly.

"Why are you so quiet? Everything good?"

"I’m good," She sighed softly, and when Hunter raised a brow, she shrugged with a small smile, "I’m on my period."

Hunter nodded in understanding, but he didn’t look convinced. Before he could question her further, a car honked outside the house.

"That’s probably Lina," She immediately pushed her chair back, trying to avoid looking at him.

"I ... forgot to tell you," She said, still looking at her unfinished plate, "We planned a sleepover... at her place."

When he didn’t say anything, she turned towards her room, "I’ll grab my things."

A few minutes later, when she came back, she was carrying a small overnight bag over her shoulder.

Hunter was watching her carefully as he saw her toying with the strap of her bag.

"I’ll be back tomorrow," she said with a faint smile and placed her hand on the doorknob to open the door.

However, she froze when he called her from behind, "Menace."

She couldn’t move an inch when she heard him approaching her.

Please. Don’t ask me anything. Please, Hunter, or I’ll start crying.

She pleaded to him silently and closed her eyes when felt his hand on her shoulder. He turned her gently and held her hand, "I know you want to be with your friend, menace. I ..." he got quiet and looked sideways. Sienna at last looked up to watch him, "I’ll miss you, menace," he at last finished it with a boyish grin.

Her eyes got a little wider at the unexpected words that came out of his mouth. He took her hand to his lips, "I’ll wait for you. Enjoy yourself."

He then opened the door for her and walked her outside to Lina’s car. She wanted to tell him that there was no need. But she couldn’t.

After opening the passenger door for her, he gave a small nod to Lina while his eyes stayed on her the entire time.

Something Lina’s eyes didn’t miss.

Then, almost reluctantly, Hunter closed the car door for her.

The hospital where George was admitted was old, quiet, and poorly maintained. They didn’t get any VIP treatment there. Nobody recognized them, which was a good thing.

Because they didn’t want anyone to mess up their already chaotic situation. They came here upon Dr. Greyson’s recommendation.

Ruby hated every second of it. They couldn’t talk to anyone about Papa’s condition because Greyson had asked them to stay quiet.

She paced restlessly outside the private room while Mariana sat for a moment before getting back on her feet.

Neither of them could sit still. If by any chance, Tom or Sienna tried to contact them, they would be in trouble.

It had been two days, and George still hadn’t regained consciousness.

"What if something went wrong?" Mariana whispered shakily, wringing her hands together, "Has the injection damaged his brain?"

"I don’t think so," Ruby whispered, secretly cursing Sienna. In this life, she had been the root cause of every problem they were facing.

Papa and Mama thought Hunter was behind it. But now Ruby suspected this was not the case. Either it was Sienna or her bitchy friend Lina.

Both of them turned when they heard footsteps in the empty corridor. Ruby took a sigh of relief when she saw Dr. Greyson.

She wanted Papa to be well enough before leaving for the village. Though she wasn’t as scared of Tom, but right now she couldn’t afford to offend him. He promised her good money, and she still needed a job at Siahun.

"There you are!" Mariana stormed towards him before he could even speak, "Where the hell have you been?"

"Papa is still unconscious," Ruby joined her mom, "You said Papa would wake up within one or two days."

Poor doctor Greyson looked exhausted. Dark circles were evident under his eyes. It looked like he hadn’t slept properly either.

"I was busy..." He said through gritted teeth. At this point, he wanted to inject poison into George’s body and get it done once and for all.

"Busy?" Ruby almost yelled, "My father could be dying in there!"

George pressed his lips, like he was already losing patience.

Mariana grabbed his arm desperately, "Please tell us the truth. Is something wrong with George?"

For two days, the man had avoided their calls. He didn’t want to meet them, nor did he want to look at their faces.

Both women had gotten crazy, and it was deeply affecting his mental health. He wished he could poison all the members of the Mason family.

They had become a pain in the ass.

He looked at Ruby, who was still talking... No! Screaming... she was screaming, and all Greyson could see was an evil bitch moving her mouth. He couldn’t hear a single word because she looked so scary, especially with the way her facial expressions kept changing.

"Enough!" Greyson suddenly snapped so loudly that both women fell silent. He yanked his arm away from Mariana and glared at them with burning frustration.

"Enough!" He repeated harshly, "Do you two even realize the amount of mess I’m in...because of you and your stupid family?"

Ruby stared at him in shock, "Our family?" she whispered. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Greyson laughed bitterly and rubbed his hand down his tired face, "You two think I was enjoying life out there, leaving you here. I’ve spent the last two days making sure none of you end up behind bars."

None of the women spoke. They were too stunned to speak.

"You keep attacking me, keep asking me to take you out of your problems that come your way one after the other. Stop! Just stop doing that!"

Mariana’s lips trembled, "Dr. Greyson... we... were worried about... George."

"So am I!" Greyson barked at them, "For God’s sake fuck off. I solve your problem, and you come back to me with another. Now let me tell you this..." He suddenly held Mariana’s shoulders, "Stop. Blaming. Me! I don’t have a hand in this. It was your husband’s idea. He wanted to die. I only did what you and your little... fucking family... asked me to do."

The corridor fell dead silent after that.

After a few seconds, Mariana winced, Y...you... you’re hurting me."

Greyson frowned at her, and when he understood what she was trying to say, he suddenly left her and moved back.

"I’m... I’m sorry... I was just tired."

Ruby and Mariana exchanged a stunned look. For the first time since this entire mess started... the doctor looked genuinely terrifying.

He dragged both hands through his hair and took a shaky breath before he started speaking in a low voice, "If... if someone finds out... he’s alive..." He chuckled bitterly, "We’re done. We are all done. Okay?"

He swallowed and closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he saw concern on Ruby’s face, "A death certificate has already been issued under his name. It’s now officially in hospital records. Signed by me!" He placed his finger on his chest, "I regret the moment I met him. If I knew he would be a part of a crazy family, I would have kept my distance from him."

Ruby didn’t like the way the doctor was speaking his mind. In her past life, they always shared a good bond.

Not anymore.

Mariana shook her head, "Don’t say things like that, Greyson. Our families were always closer and ..."

"Don’t say that?" Greyson snapped again, "That’s the truth."

Ruby started rubbing her forehead, "Wh...what should we do?"

"Nothing!" he said coldly, "Let me do my job. If it works, good. If it doesn’t, go to hell!"

Ruby and Mariana were both taken aback by the remark made by the doctor. He didn’t stop there and disappeared inside the room.

When Dr. Greyson emerged from the room, neither of them approached him desperately and kept their distance.

Mariana tried to be polite when she asked him, "How... is he doing?"

Ruby also went to him, "Is Papa conscious now?"

Greyson avoided eye contact while removing his gloves slowly and shook his head.

Ruby’s brows furrowed a little, "What’s the meaning of this?"

Mariana gasped loudly as her hand flew to her mouth, "He died?" Tears instantly filled her eyes, "Oh, George. You died?"

"What the hell!" Greyson cursed under his breath, "No, Mariana. He isn’t dead. Stop with this melodrama."

Mariana froze in the middle of her breakdown. Ruby also pressed a hand against her chest in relief, "Then why are you acting like that?"

Greyson looked around in the corridor, not knowing what the impact would be. He was still hesitant about how to break it to them.

"H...he is alive," He tried to smile, "But..."

Both the women stiffened a little after the ’but’.

Greyson rubbed the nape of his neck as if he was already regretting coming here.

"Someone already took out his kidney ... for donation."

"What!" Ruby whispered while Mariana’s eyes widened in shock.

Greyson nodded his head, looking at the floor, "Not only his kidney but his eyes too."

Mariana stared at him blankly, and then her knees almost gave out. Mariana was quick to grab her arm as she stared at Greyson.

"You’re saying... Papa has..."

Greyson nodded, "Yes. He has one kidney and ...no eye. I’m sorry."
