Chapter 869: Chapter 869: Two Little Mischievous Spirits
Just as Selena Kensington placed her hand on the magical door, the tiny specks of starlight surrounding her approached her.
They gathered and merged into the hand Selena Kensington had placed on the door.
Ultimately, those shimmering lights fused into the door.
Selena waited for a moment, before finally hearing the sound of the door creaking open, "click click..."
The door opened.
Selena took a deep breath and stepped inside.
*
When Selena walked inside, she saw Esther Jennings standing with her back to her.
Selena wasn’t sure if Esther was awake or simply standing there.
She called out uncertainly, "Auntie?"
As Selena uttered those words, the surrounding time seemed to be frozen.
Selena stood still, waiting for Esther’s response.
But Esther did not respond to her.
Just as Selena was about to approach Esther, she suddenly heard a clear sigh in this silent space.
And the source of this sound... came from Esther Jennings!
Acknowledging this, Selena’s eyes widened slightly.
She couldn’t believe it and called out again, "Auntie, are you awake?"
This time, Esther did not choose silence.
Esther turned around.
When Selena saw Esther standing perfectly fine in front of her, and her body wasn’t as transparent as before, like it might dissipate any moment, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully...
Esther looked at her calmly, her eyes carrying a hint of warmth.
She spoke gently, "Because you shielded me in this space last time, I was able to continue existing. It was only because you severed contact with me that I couldn’t wake up."
Upon hearing Esther’s words, Selena suddenly realized this was indeed true...
At the time, overwhelmed by anxiety and only thinking she couldn’t let Esther be harmed, she inadvertently triggered some switch and shielded Esther in this space...
But she was unaware of this.
No wonder she could sense Esther’s presence, but Esther never responded.
It turned out Esther couldn’t respond to her.
Realizing she had done something embarrassing, Selena awkwardly coughed, "Uh... sorry, I didn’t know..."
Esther shook her head slightly.
"No need to apologize. You just need to answer a question for me."
This was Esther’s first time posing her own question, which surprised Selena, but she agreed.
"Go ahead."
Esther hesitated for a moment, a noticeable trace of confusion and bewilderment crossing her face.
"The last thing you said to me before shielding me... what did it mean?"
Selena was taken aback by Esther’s comment.
She remembered she had mentioned taking Esther to see Vincent Sinclair.
Selena’s eyes lit with joy, "Auntie, did you remember something?!"
Esther’s eyes were filled with confusion; upon hearing Selena’s words, she looked up.
Seeing the joy in Selena’s eyes, she slowly shook her head.
The joy in Selena’s heart froze instantly.
She asked cautiously, "Then, Auntie, you..."
If Esther didn’t remember, why did she bring up Vincent Sinclair?
Esther replied gently, "I was just wondering, if the person you mentioned really is my husband, why is he still alive?"
Although Esther wasn’t certain how long she had been dead, she had a vague feeling.
Combined with Selena’s namesake for her...
If the person Selena was talking about truly was her husband, then why had he lived until now?
That was a point of confusion for Esther.
Selena was suddenly startled.
How was she supposed to explain to Esther?
Was she to tell Esther about Vincent Sinclair’s crazy and filthy deeds?
No... even if Esther now existed as just a spiritual body, without memories or emotions.
But she was still Esther Jennings.
Everything Vincent Sinclair did, albeit wrong, was born from his deep love for Esther.
Anyone could criticize and despise Vincent Sinclair, but Esther could not.
Because everything that man did was for Esther.
Selena was unsure, if she told Esther about Vincent Sinclair’s deeds, how Esther would react...
Would she detest Vincent Sinclair because of it?
Selena recalled mentioning the impostor issue to Esther before, where Esther’s face had rarely shown a clear expression of disdain.
And Esther had directly stated to her: Dirty things, should be eradicated.
Those impostors were, to Esther, filth.
Vincent Sinclair likewise.
Seeing Selena hesitate, Esther spoke again, "Can’t you say?"
Selena pressed her lips together, giving a subtle shake of her head.
But she still didn’t speak, "Auntie, when you meet him, you will understand."
So, in the end, it was up to Esther and Vincent Sinclair to resolve this themselves.
Regarding emotions, she was after all an outsider; it wasn’t her place to interfere.
Esther looked at Selena for a moment, seeing the expression upon Selena’s face, she nodded slightly.
"I understand."
Selena opened her eyes.
Upon opening her eyes, she found Sterling Norwood still looking at her from the side.
Selena blinked and then turned to look at him.
Seeing her turn towards him, Sterling’s eyes twinkled with a touch of amusement, "Did you find her?"
Selena sat up slightly, responded, "Yes, I found her."
She breathed a sigh of relief, "She’s still there."
Sterling gently stroked her hair and softly comforted her, "That’s good."
After saying that, he pulled Selena slightly closer to him, "Time to sleep."
Selena smiled, "Alright."
*
Selena didn’t delay; she quickly prepared the trip to Oakhaven.
The journey was arranged by Sterling Norwood.
Selena had no objections to this.
However, on the morning of her departure, the two little ones seemed to sense their mother’s leaving and began causing a ruckus early in the morning.
Of course, Celeste was the main culprit.
Though Seraphina didn’t join her sister in making a fuss, those wide eyes were constantly fixed on Selena.
Those round eyes seemed to carry a stubbornness.
Selena "..."
These two little rascals!
With the two little ones causing such a commotion, Selena naturally could not leave with peace of mind.
Thus, Selena found a chair beside the two youngsters, sitting down and earnestly began lecturing them.
"Be good, I’m just leaving for a day."
"Daddy will make formula for you, you won’t go hungry."
"... You didn’t cling to me like this before, hmph."
"..."
Selena rambled on for quite some time.
