Chapter 841: Chapter 841: Stirring Up Trouble

Eliminating all the other possibilities, Selena Kensington finally pinned down why Jane Rhodes was the one stirring up trouble behind the scenes.

Because she had decided that the reason Sloane Hawthorne could keep cruising along so peacefully, with everything getting smoothed over no matter what happened, was because of her.

Because with her around, no matter what Sloane Hawthorne did, Stardust would step in to clean up the mess for her.

This was probably what Jane Rhodes came up with after her last defeat, so she shifted her target.

And then turned her sights on her.

Jane Rhodes wanted to start with her, feed her some dirt about Sloane Hawthorne right to her face; if Jane’s plan actually worked, then it’d basically be cutting off Sloane Hawthorne’s escape route altogether...

Thinking of this, Selena Kensington sighed inwardly, soundless.

Her scheme wasn’t bad, pity...she picked the wrong person.

Selena was not some sheltered, naive woman who’d been protected all her life.

Vivian Sutton listened to Selena’s words, clicked her tongue, and said, "This woman! She really is..."

Selena lifted the corner of her lips. "Relax, she won’t be smug for long."

Vivian Sutton shrugged. "I know, I’m waiting to watch the show."

Iris Sinclair was off to the side, listening to the slightly cryptic back-and-forth between Selena and Vivian, and felt a bit confused. "What are you two plotting?"

Hearing that, Vivian turned her head and said to Iris, "Just that your guess was right—the one doing shit behind the scenes is Jane Rhodes."

At Vivian’s words, Iris smacked her palm on the table.

She hadn’t used much force, so it didn’t really hurt, but her face carried a streak of anger. "Knew it was that woman! My brother’s been too busy these days, he hasn’t had time to investigate this, or else how could that woman still be jumping around here today!"

"Wait, I have to tell my brother to kick that woman out of the Sinclair Family!"

Iris kept muttering nonstop, and as soon as she finished, she wanted to get up and head out.

Vivian quickly grabbed Iris with lightning reflexes. "Iris, Iris! Don’t be impulsive!"

Vivian tugged Iris back down into her original seat.

She coaxed her, "Today’s your brother’s big day, why are you dragging him into this mess? And this is women’s business—what’s the point of bothering him with it...Trust me, since Selie showed up today, there’s no way she’ll let that woman walk away unscathed."

"And Sloane is going to go on stage with your brother later. Our Selie is the most protective one there is, she won’t let Jane Rhodes go hover in front of Sloane and disgust her. So just wait and watch the show!"

Hearing Vivian’s persuasion, Iris’s impulse to rush out gradually settled, and a hint of gleeful, ready-to-watch-drama light slowly crept into her eyes.

She exchanged a glance with Vivian, then turned bright eyes on Selena.

Iris said, "Cousin-in-law, is what my cousin said true? Are you really going to teach that woman a lesson?"

Iris and Jane Rhodes had disliked each other for a long time, and Iris also had a certain understanding of her.

She knew Jane cared a lot about her image and very much enjoyed the worship and envious gazes from the other society ladies. Face, to her, mattered more than her life.

Plus, tonight was the Sinclair Family’s banquet, and both the scale and the level of the guests were way more than just a notch higher.

Among the socialites attending, quite a few were heiresses from other powerful families in The Empire. Many of them were more or less on Jane Rhodes’s level, and many of them also had some grudges with her.

If Jane were to lose face in front of these people, that would be more painful to her than killing her.

At Iris’s words, Selena lifted the teacup in front of her and took a small sip.

"Can’t exactly call it a lesson, more like letting her reap what she’s sown. If she doesn’t know when to rein herself in and still wants to bother Sloane..." She didn’t finish the sentence, but the danger in her tone was obvious.

If Jane Rhodes still wanted to go after Sloane Hawthorne, then Selena wouldn’t have to hold back anymore.

Iris nodded slightly.

She looked out toward the garden, her brows knitting again.

Her gaze turned a bit odd. "Why are those few gathering together?"

At Iris’s words, Selena and Vivian followed her line of sight.

A little ways away, behind a rockery, a small table had several women seated together.

And among them was Jane Rhodes.

The rest of them, Selena vaguely recognized—they should all be debutantes from Aethelgard’s high society.

Because the rockery and some trees were partially blocking the view, Selena could only make out the general scene.

Vivian saw what was happening over there as well, and asked curiously, "What about them sitting together?"

Iris curled her lips. "Cousin, cousin-in-law, you don’t know—those few...are all women who like my brother. As for how I know, it’s because several of them have openly or secretly sent me gifts, trying to use me as a bridge to get close to my brother."

Otherwise, Iris wouldn’t remember them so clearly.

Now the women who simultaneously liked Silas Sinclair were gathering together; what, were they planning to play mahjong?

Iris silently grumbled in her heart.

Upon hearing Iris’s explanation, Vivian’s eyes flashed with surprise.

Then she spoke, amused, "Tsk tsk, so it’s four women putting on one show? And the type with hidden daggers under their smiles. I bet each of them is already thinking about how to get rid of the others and reduce the number of love rivals."

Selena watched for a moment, then withdrew her gaze. She said, "Right now their common enemy is Sloane, that’s the only reason they can sit together like this."

At Selena’s words, Iris blurted out, "Then they’re not over there badmouthing Sister Sloane, are they?!"

Vivian’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Very possible!"

After she said that, her bright gaze swung to Selena.

Iris also stared at Selena without blinking.

Selena: "..."

The "let’s stir the pot" look in Iris and Vivian’s eyes was already impossible to hide.

Seeing how expectant the two of them were, Selena felt a little helpless.

She set down her teacup and said lightly, "Then let’s go over and take a look."

At Selena’s answer, Iris and Vivian immediately clasped hands, eyes sparkling with excitement.

Iris rubbed her palms together, saying excitedly, "We’ll sneak over quietly, maybe we can overhear something..."

Vivian nodded along.

Seeing the two acting like thieves, Selena’s mouth twitched slightly, and she reminded them, "Can you two act normal? Don’t make it so obvious, there are a lot of people here today..."

These two really would sacrifice their image for the sake of causing trouble.

At Selena’s reminder, Iris and Vivian exchanged a glance, then coughed lightly in embarrassment and finally returned to a normal state.

The three of them walked out of the pavilion together.
