Chapter 840: Chapter 840: Two-Faced

No wonder she turned the head of the Norwood Family Head; this Lady indeed possesses some charm.

Jane Rhodes glanced at Selena Kensington’s profile, her eyes flashing with determination.

If she could win over Selena, she would gain a great ally.

With this thought, Jane’s gaze on Selena grew even more fervent.

She walked inside and saw Iris Sinclair and Vivian Sutton present; her eyes darkened.

Could these two also be close to Selena?

Regarding Silas Sinclair’s younger sister, Jane held no fondness for her either.

Iris had often mocked her openly, disregarding the presence of others. Moreover, she frequently opposed her. If it weren’t because Iris was Silas’s sister, Jane wouldn’t even bother to maintain superficial propriety.

But now, with these two present, perhaps they could introduce her to Selena.

So, before Jane even entered the pavilion, she started to call out, "Iris, Vivian, what a coincidence. Are you also..."

But before she could finish her sentence, her steps abruptly halted.

Because Hope Norwood, who guarded Selena’s side, was standing at the pavilion’s entrance. Seeing Jane trying to come in, Hope coldly extended a hand to block her way.

"No disturbances."

Hope said this with a blank expression.

Jane’s smile froze at the corners of her mouth upon hearing Hope’s words.

Her steps towards the staircase instinctively retreated.

Even though Jane felt a hint of displeasure due to Hope’s interception, her expression quickly recovered.

She raised a perfect smile, seemingly unfazed by Hope’s obstruction.

She slightly raised her voice and addressed Selena sitting there, "Madam Norwood, I’m Jane Rhodes from The South. I’ve heard some things about you and have come to admire you, so I’ve boldly come to visit."

"Besides, I’ve lived in the Sinclair Family for several years in my childhood, and I know Iris and Vivian."

Iris Sinclair, Vivian Sutton: "..."

They really didn’t want to know Jane, thank you.

Upon hearing Jane’s words, Iris and Vivian exchanged glances, catching a hint of surprise in each other’s eyes.

Jane, is she coming after Selena?

Moreover, her tone seemed to imply a desire to ingratiate herself and forge connections?

Even Selena felt a bit surprised; was Jane seeking to befriend her?

If Jane truly harbored such thoughts...

Selena coldly chuckled inwardly, fearing her wish might be unrealistic.

Yet, on the surface, Selena maintained a serene demeanor.

She responded, turning her head slowly, "Oh? You admire me?"

Her words carried a tone of ambiguity, her expressive eyes resembling deep pools, unfathomable, as if one misstep would lead to being consumed by the darkness within.

Jane lifted her head and noticed this expression in Selena’s eyes, feeling somewhat peculiar inside.

This Lady of the Norwood Family seemed not as harmless as she appeared...

Rumors had it that Selena was well-protected by Sterling Norwood, rarely facing any major storms.

And her current expression also carried significant deceit.

Selena’s face, originally delicate and alluring, gradually softened as she went through her pregnancy.

Even her brows and eyes had gentled significantly.

The previously sharp and fierce feeling gradually transformed into softness.

So Jane dared to come forward; otherwise, if she encountered someone old and cunning, Jane wouldn’t have the courage to approach directly.

Jane’s heart was momentarily unsure.

But now, with herself already approaching, she could only bite the bullet and continue.

Thus, Jane pondered a few sentences internally, carefully considering her wording before cautiously speaking, "Yes... It’s an honor for me to meet Madam Norwood here."

"Ha..."

Selena chuckled lightly and then waved slightly, "Understood."

She had no intention to invite Jane to sit down.

In just a few sentences, Selena had already nearly fathomed Jane’s thoughts and intentions.

She seemed rather impatient.

Upon hearing Selena’s words and seeing no further actions, a trace of unwillingness flashed in Jane’s heart.

Could it be that her previous words failed to leave an impression on Selena’s heart?

Or was her attempt to flatter too obvious, making Selena disdainful?

Jane thought it over and still couldn’t leave in dissatisfaction, so she slightly opened her mouth, intending to speak again, only to be blocked once more by Hope standing ahead.

Without changing her expression, Hope spoke, yet with a pressuring aura that descended upon Jane, "Miss Rhodes, please leave."

Jane was mostly a wealthy lady, having seldom faced such situations, so when she sensed the dangerous aura emanating from Hope and the threat in her words, Jane’s complexion turned slightly pale.

Yet, she still pretended to hold firm on the surface, "In that case, I won’t disturb Madam Norwood."

After saying this, she awaited Selena’s response for a while but didn’t get it.

However, she dared not reveal any expression in front of everyone, so she could only leave with reluctance.

Not long after Jane had left, Iris couldn’t wait to make a disgusted face.

Iris expressed her disgust, "Ugh... That woman is disgusting! Was she trying to latch onto my cousin-in-law just now?!"

"Thankfully Hope blocked her! I wonder where she got her audacity!"

Seeing Iris react so openly, Selena and Vivian next to her were somewhat helpless.

Selena teased, "Are you too lazy to maintain even the surface propriety?"

Iris snorted lightly, "We had torn our faces long ago; she still has the nerve to talk as if I were close with her! This woman is one thing on the surface and another behind the scenes! She sweet-talks my aunts and cousins well!"

Upon hearing Iris speak like this, Selena smiled silently.

Vivian, however, approached with curiosity, asking, "Selie, is she really Jane Rhodes?"

Earlier, Selena’s two words seemed to casually inquire yet contained a probing meaning.

So Vivian, from the start, remained silent without interrupting Selena.

Selena smiled, nodding calmly, "Almost certainly."

What could Selena possibly have that Jane admired? She believed she hadn’t achieved anything significant.

Yet, Jane from The South began with admiration.

Apart from wanting to latch onto her, there was no other explanation.

But why try to latch onto her? She hardly knew much about the Sinclair Family, nor did she have the authority to interfere.

If Jane wanted to become the Lady Sinclair, wouldn’t building a rapport with Iris be better than connecting with her?
