Chapter 2103: Chapter 2006: Ouyang Jun in Trouble
Huo Sining chatted with Su Qingqing for a while before hanging up the phone.
Once the call ended, a dozen more calls came in. It was basically people who had heard the news eagerly wanting to inquire about the situation and congratulate her. Just dealing with these calls made Huo Sining feel a bit overwhelmed.
After answering a string of calls and finally dismissing the enthusiastic callers, Huo Sining noticeably breathed a sigh of relief after hanging up the phone.
Returning to her room, Huo Sining remembered something and took out Jiang Weide’s laptop. After connecting to the internet, a private message reply indeed appeared on Jiang Weide’s Weibo.
That private message was sent by Ge Xinming, who was evidently very interested in the big news mentioned by Jiang Weide about Huo Sining, eagerly pressing him for more details:
"Hello, sir, I was just offline. Could you please share what this big news is?"
Upon seeing Ge Xinming’s reply, Huo Sining couldn’t help but smirk and was about to respond to Ge Xinming when, unexpectedly, a pair of large hands stopped her.
Gu Xu glared at Huo Sining, disregarding her protest, and snatched the laptop from her hands.
Huo Sining raised her head with a puzzled expression: "What are you doing?"
Gu Xu looked at his wife: "You are in a delicate period right now. The laptop has radiation, and you shouldn’t be exposed to these electronics. You should go to bed early. I’ll handle Ge Xinming’s issue; you just focus on resting well."
Huo Sining wanted to act spoiled and get the laptop back. Usually, a bit of whining would make Gu Xu compromise, but this time, no matter how much she pouted, Gu Xu ignored her and directly took the laptop away. Before leaving the room, he even collected all her gadgets like tablets and smartphones.
Seeing this, Huo Sining felt deflated, tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. She got up, found a paper book on the nightstand, and started flipping through it.
The sleep-inducing effect of the paper book was quite significant. After casually reading a few pages, she began to doze off, quickly tossing the book aside and snuggling into bed to slumber.
When Gu Xu came in, he saw his wife sleeping peacefully on her side, with a paper book lying next to her only up to page seven. Gu Xu picked up the book, closed the cover, and couldn’t help but chuckle.
It turned out to be the "Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance" he had placed on the nightstand.
No wonder she fell asleep so quickly; the book was probably too arcane, making his wife’s head spin, so she dozed off in under ten minutes.
Gu Xu carefully tucked the quilt over his wife, pinched the corners, glanced at her with tender eyes, leaned down to gently kiss her forehead, and whispered in her ear: "Thank you, my love."
Thank you for agreeing to marry me, for being willing to endure the hardship of carrying our child.
Huo Sining was deeply asleep, feeling a tickle near her ear, she couldn’t help but brush away the annoyance, mumbled, turned over, and continued sleeping.
Seeing this made Gu Xu want to laugh. Initially, he planned to handle the matter with Ge Xinming in the study first, but after seeing his wife’s state, his heart inexplicably softened. So, he simply closed the bedroom door, turned around, and went back to bed, pulling his wife into his arms, closing his eyes with a smile as he drifted off to sleep.
They slept deeply until dawn. Gu Xu woke up feeling refreshed, while Huo Sining was still asleep. Pregnant women tend to be sleepy, so Gu Xu didn’t wake her and quietly slipped out. It was his habit to exercise every morning after waking; it’s a biological clock from his time in the military that is difficult to break.
While exercising, Gu Xu’s phone suddenly rang; the call was from Ouyang Jun. Last night Gu Xu called Song Hui, Ouyang Jun, and Qin Tian, reaching the others but failing to connect with Ouyang Jun’s number. A woman’s voice said the number was out of service.
Gu Xu hadn’t seen Ouyang Jun recently and didn’t know what he was up to, but he didn’t pay much attention. Yet now, early in the morning, he received Ouyang Jun’s call, which was perplexing.
"Jun Zi, you’re up this early?"
Once the call connected, Gu Xu asked.
However, after the line was connected, a string of noise came through: the whooshing of the wind and a man’s cursing, sounding quite chaotic. The voice was none other than Ouyang Jun’s.
Gu Xu was about to ask if Ouyang Jun was in any trouble, but before he could, a blast sound was heard, followed by gunfire. Gu Xu, as a special forces operator, was familiar with such sounds and quickly realized what was happening, his expression tense and serious.
"Jun Zi, where are you? What’s happening?!"
Gu Xu asked sharply.
The person on the other end seemed to just realize the call was connected, cursed again fiercely, then said:
"Damn it, Xu Zi, I’ve screwed up big time. I’m in Mexico, got tangled with a major drug lord, and I’m on the run now. These cartel guys won’t let up; I’ve been running all day and still can’t shake them!"
Upon hearing this, Gu Xu was suddenly anxious: "Can you manage? Should I get someone to help you?"
Over the phone, Ouyang Jun chuckled bitterly: "Probably not, I’m afraid. I don’t mind telling you, I’m in real trouble this time. I’m almost certain I won’t make it out of here!"
Gu Xu wanted to ask more questions, but before he could clarify, the call disconnected. Anxiously, he tried calling back; it connected briefly but then went to voicemail, indicating the phone was off.
Gu Xu was immediately distressed, hastily dialing Yu Fei’s number, telling him:
"Xiao Fei, a buddy of mine is in trouble. Check this phone number and see where the last signal came from, then send me the location!"
After the call, Gu Xu urgently rushed back to the villa.
Inside, Huo Sining was already awake, eating breakfast in the dining room. She saw Gu Xu hurrying back, his face looking somewhat grim, and instantly sensed something was wrong. She couldn’t help but ask: "What’s going on? Has something happened?"
