Chapter 1235: Chapter 1235: Pushing the Limits

"All right then, tomorrow I’ll go buy the train tickets and send you to the station." Jiang Xue agreed with a smile. Early the next morning, she got up and made breakfast.

After breakfast, Jiang Xue left the kids at home and took her father- and mother-in-law to the station, buying their train tickets while she was there.

In the afternoon, Nangong Chen came to see Jiang Xue again. This time, Jiang Xue didn’t receive him at home, but went with him to a nearby tea house.

Once they got to the tea house, Jiang Xue looked at Nangong Chen and asked bluntly, "Go on, what do you want from me today?"

"Take a guess?" Nangong Chen’s lips curved slightly as he looked at Jiang Xue with a smile. He suddenly felt that Jiang Xue was a very awkward person.

"If you don’t want to say it, forget it. I’ve got things to do, I’m leaving." Jiang Xue shot Nangong Chen a cold look, then stood up to leave.

However, at the very instant she was about to go, Nangong Chen suddenly reached out and grabbed her. With that tug, Jiang Xue lost her balance and was about to fall straight to the floor.

Seeing this, Nangong Chen got a fright. He immediately stretched out his other hand, wanting to catch Jiang Xue. But just as his hand went out, Jiang Xue suddenly moved. Her body tilted slightly, one foot slid back, and she braced herself on the table beside her, steadying herself at once.

After she had stabilized herself, Jiang Xue’s face darkened a little. She glared at Nangong Chen and said coldly, "Nangong Chen, don’t push your luck."

Before Nangong Chen could speak, Jiang Xue went on, "Even if we’re in the same boat, you’d better show some self-respect. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude."

Just then, a voice cut in, asking, "Jiang Xue, what’s going on?"

Hearing the voice, Jiang Xue looked up and saw Ouyang Yi standing in front of her, his face full of concern.

"It’s nothing." Jiang Xue shook her head. Even though she had conflicts with Nangong Chen, she didn’t want Ouyang Yi dragged into it.

"Really nothing?" Ouyang Yi looked at Nangong Chen with obvious doubt. As someone in a position of power himself, he sensed a similar aura in Nangong Chen. And he could also feel that Nangong Chen was not someone easy to deal with.

"Nothing." Jiang Xue shook her head again, then said to Ouyang Yi, "President Ouyang, thank you."

"You’re welcome. I’m over there; if anything happens, come find me." Ouyang Yi pointed at a spot not far away, then left with a smile.

Once Ouyang Yi had left, Jiang Xue slowly calmed down. She looked at Nangong Chen and said, "Nangong Chen, I don’t want us to become enemies. If you have something to say, just say it. I don’t like people putting their hands on me. I’ll let it go this time, but if there’s a next time, don’t blame me for being harsh."

Jiang Xue’s words left Nangong Chen feeling somewhat stifled. But thinking about it and realizing he had indeed been presumptuous, he could only press down the emotions in his heart. Looking at Jiang Xue with a serious expression, he said, "Jiang Xue, I thought we were friends."

"Your status is too high, I’m just a little village girl, so I can’t afford to climb up to you." Jiang Xue said lightly. On the surface she was saying she couldn’t reach that high, but the real reason was simply that she didn’t want to have too much to do with him.

"Do you really think you can’t climb up?" Nangong Chen looked at Jiang Xue, full of doubt. Although Jiang Xue’s background indeed wasn’t high, he didn’t think she was someone who cared about family status.

If she did, she would have acknowledged her ancestors long ago and gone back to the Jiang Family, instead of being like she was now, having cut off contact with them.

"Believe it or not, that’s up to you." Jiang Xue tossed out the words, then glanced at Nangong Chen again and said, "My time is limited. If you have something to say, say it quickly."
