Chapter 1135: Chapter 1008
"Mom, I’m over here."
The familiar shout from her youngest son caught Zhou Jiao’s attention, and she turned her head to see...
Sure enough, it was her own son?
She quickly walked over, swiftly checking the mental state of her three sons. Not bad. As she approached, she noticed a female train attendant nearby and specifically thanked her.
If she guessed right, this must be the person Huang Xiaomi’s cousin specially asked for help.
As the train just arrived, the other party was busy and hurriedly said a few words to Zhou Jiao before returning to work.
Now without outsiders, Zhou Jiao finally got to chat with Xiao Wang and them: "Brother Wang, Brother Zheng, thank you for your hard work."
"Hehe, it wasn’t hard work at all, more like enjoying ourselves."
"Xiao Wu didn’t come?"
Zhou Jiao laughed and pointed outside, "Just met an old man who helped with a little thing, he’ll be here soon."

Xiao Wang and the others interacted most with Zhang Guoqing, naturally understanding his helpful nature. They were wondering why he was absent during off-hours when he would usually be tending to his wife and children.
Zhang Guoqing helped the old man fix his ticket, handed him over to the station staff, and quickly ran back, managing to catch up with the carriage within minutes.
Zhang Guoqing stepped forward to take the packages outside, smiling as he said, "An old man going to a neighboring province to visit his son who has been in the army for many years, lost both money and tickets on the way. Luckily, he had his son’s address."
Xiao Wang and the others understood the feeling of wanting to help the elders of his comrades, especially since Zhang Guoqing is seen as a warm-hearted person in their minds, so it’s not surprising.
The Ping’an brothers returned to their hometown this time, along with the purchases they made themselves, relatives also sent lots of special products. With each of their shrewd personalities, they wouldn’t have wanted to send things by post office before leaving.
Therefore, before leaving, Zhang Guoqing wisely drove a canvas truck, and the group packed the luggage and parcels, finally able to smoothly return to the Big Courtyard.
The festive atmosphere of the New Year on the street had not yet dissipated; upon entering the courtyard, the occasional sound of firecrackers could still be heard. These were kids who hadn’t started school yet, relishing the New Year flavor.
The truck slowed down as it entered the Big Courtyard’s main street, the Ping’an Brothers grinned and waved to familiar playmates by the roadside. The news of their return quickly spread among the children...
The result was that, just as they arrived at the doorstep, quickly a wave of kids came to help.
The Ping’an brothers shrewdly had Zhang Guoqing leave a large sack behind. These were mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, and walnuts reserved as gifts for their buddies.
Zhang Guoqing knowingly patted the heads of his three sons, laughing pleasantly as he saw their hats crooked from the pats. All the cleverness used in these little thoughts.
Mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, and walnuts take up a lot of space? Enough for everyone to have a share from such a large sack. Indicates that these packed small packages were the most space-occupying local specialties, right?
As for the children’s relationships, Zhang Guoqing didn’t say much, handing it over directly to them to handle. He was curious though, where did the meat in the two sacks come from?
He believed his sons wouldn’t break the promise to go up the mountain, since they had already sent two packages before the New Year. He didn’t think life in the hometown lacked supplies this much.
After sending off each buddy with a large handful, the brothers didn’t forget to remind everyone to inform those who hadn’t come. They weren’t planning to deliver personally.
Once people dispersed, Xiao Wang and Xiao Zheng were also urged by Zhou Xiaozheng to go have dinner and rest early. The family could finally sit peacefully around the dining table, chatting while eating.
"...The pork was personally swapped by Second Uncle for us, he said supplies are scarce in the city, it’s cold so it won’t spoil. The wild chickens and rabbits that weren’t purchased were gifted by my dad’s friends..."
"I noticed mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms were cheap, so I bought more, and the villagers also gifted quite a bit." May 1st said as he looked at his mom, "We gave return gifts."
Zhou Jiao smiled appreciatively.
"Two maternal aunts sent us lots of things before the New Year. We three noticed that Big Aunt was pregnant and Little Aunt’s two kids were still young, so before boarding, we gave away the two cans of malted milk Aunt Yuan bought us, along with five pounds of meat, as return gifts."
Zhou Jiao chuckled upon hearing this, "Well done, we have malted milk at home; it’s a hassle to carry it back and forth. But did you give Aunt Yuan a return gift?"
Ping’an continued, "Mom, we gave return gifts to everyone, except Grandpa Zhao and Aunt Yuan’s, which we couldn’t decide on. Grandpa Zhao was generous with his New Year’s money; like five of dry godfathers, he gave each of us ten bucks. Oh, Second Aunt and two uncles also gave New Year’s money to us brothers.

As for Aunt Yuan, she and Uncle Taozi were too generous. I followed your advice and secretly tucked New Year’s money for her two kids, but she gave out more than six gifts, plus a set of clothes for each of us. We didn’t need so much, but she insisted differently."
Miao Lishan recalled Zhao Yuanyuan and chuckled, "The girl does take after her parents. Since they gave, you should accept it, let adults handle social relations."
Zhou Jiao nodded approvingly. Though she and Zhao Yuanyuan lived far apart after separating, perhaps because both couples grew up together, along with Zhao Dashan and his wife involved, the two families became closer instead of drifting apart.
Who would’ve thought that the wild and eccentric Zhao Yuanyuan would become an adept homemaker after marriage. With one son and one daughter, along with her good relationship with Zhang Yuntao, she’s been among the happiest of her few friends.
"Mom, we visited Aunt Yuan before boarding and heard from her younger brother that a female colleague often bullied her, making her cry several times secretly."
Zhou Jiao frowned upon hearing this: "How could there be such a clueless character in the provincial city?"
It’s not that she was being arrogant with her words. In the provincial city, beyond her godmother Huang Huijuan’s family’s influence, or her godfather, or her own family standing behind Zhao Yuanyuan, who was this ill-informed, clueless one?
Ping’an laughed, pausing his chopsticks as he looked at her, "Well, didn’t you always advise Aunt Yuan to keep a low profile? She’s taken it too much to heart. We three went to her workplace, and a colleague even asked her, didn’t you say you’re from a small county?"
Liu Yi swallowed his soup and slowly interjected: "We investigated the clueless one, hangs onto a startup of some cousin, who’s a middle-schooler unable to even use an abacus yet entered the finance bureau as a clerk. She doesn’t like Aunt Yuan for being pretty and a university graduate, keeps calling university grads ’stinky old nine.’"
Zhang Guoqing didn’t believe his sons would let this go lightly, "So did you act on it?"
