Chapter 1238: Chapter 1238: Resolution
Yesterday, when Lv Beiguang called, it must have been Guodong who told him, that’s why things turned out like they did yesterday.
Lv Beiguang picked up the phone. "Brother Li, I’m really sorry, I didn’t teach the child well. But I can promise you this: I’ll treat Xue’er just like Jing Chu. If in the future Guodong doesn’t treat her right, I’ll definitely stand on Xue’s side."
"In-law, I know what kind of person you are, and I trust your Lv Family as well.
Since the thing has already happened, then let’s just get things done properly for the kids.
We’ll have them come back and get the marriage certificate when they return."
"Brother Li, I’m worried this matter might affect you badly over there. How about I try to work things through on my side and have the two of them get the certificate here?"
"Is it easy to get things done over there?"
"I’ll go ask around in a bit, it should be doable."
"Alright, let me know later."
"Okay, I’ll do my best. Whatever the outcome, I’ll call and let you know."
Only then did the two of them hang up. This long-distance call had gone on for quite a while.
Lv Beiguang hurriedly came out. "You two ride the bike home. I don’t feel easy letting Jing Chu go back alone either."
"Dad, the two of us can just walk back."
After hanging up, Li Yunqiao rubbed his temples. He’d always thought daughters were the least worrying. Now he realized sons were actually a bit easier. He couldn’t even make things hard for Lv Guodong if he wanted to—his daughter was too protective. With a sigh, he checked the time and went out to a meeting.
After sending the two kids off, Lv Beiguang went into the factory director’s office.
"What’s with you?" After working together so long, he could tell something was different about Lv Beiguang.
"Director, your wife works at the Civil Affairs Bureau, right?"
"Yeah, why? Something up?"
Lv Beiguang was really embarrassed. He’d hardly ever asked anyone for favors in his life—Jiang Xinyu was of course an exception.
"Director Sun, could you ask your wife if she can help Guodong and the girl get a marriage certificate?"
"Guodong isn’t old enough yet, is he?" Sun Baosheng asked with a smile.
"Yeah, and my daughter-in-law is a year younger than him."
Sun Baosheng immediately understood what was going on. They’d all been young once. The two kids just hadn’t been able to hold back.
"I’ll call your sister-in-law and ask. It should be possible."
Sun Baosheng really didn’t know much about this kind of thing. Once he and his wife got home, they never talked about work, and they certainly didn’t bring bad moods from work back to the house.
After the call went through, he explained the situation.
"Alright, it’s nothing serious. But it’d be best if the kids could get a proof letter from the local Educated Youth Office."
"You heard what your sister-in-law just said. I’ll call my classmate and have the Educated Youth Office issue the certificate for Guodong. That’ll take care of it."
Lv Beiguang let out a long breath. It’d be best to get the marriage certificate settled here at home. That way it’d save trouble on both sides.
The in-law was a leader; he was afraid such a small matter might affect him.
Sun Baosheng dialed his old classmate’s number. He was also someone who didn’t lightly ask others for help.
Since he’d opened his mouth, the other side didn’t turn him down and said they could come over today.
Now Lv Beiguang was completely at ease. A smile even crept onto his face.
"Director Sun, I’ll take the morning off."
"Go on then, hurry and get it done. Pick a date and let the two kids hold the wedding. We may not be able to throw a big banquet, but close friends still need to get together."
"Mm, once Xinyu comes back we’ll start preparing.
And when you get home, let my sister-in-law know to have the kids go first thing tomorrow morning to get the certificate."
Sun Baosheng nodded with a smile. "Alright, I’ll tell your sister-in-law when I get home."
Lv Beiguang rode his bike home. When he arrived, the two kids had just gotten back as well.
"Dad, how come you’re back?"
"Guodong, Xue’er, you two bring all your ID papers and come with me to the Educated Youth Office to get a proof letter. Tomorrow we’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get your marriage certificate. I’ve already arranged everything."
The two of them exchanged a look. You could do it like this? But this was actually pretty good. A marriage certificate might just be a piece of paper, but it could invisibly restrain a man and a woman.
"Dad, my brother and sister-in-law are going to get their certificate?"
"Yeah, once theirs is done I’ll feel at ease too." This was pretty good—getting them settled early saved him a lot of worry.
"Jing Chu, do we still have candy at home?"
"We do. The milk candy, chocolate, and fruit candy we brought back from the Capital."
"Go pack up a bunch for me. We’ll use it as wedding candy for the folks helping us."
Father and son split up to get things ready. Jing Chu packed around a jin of three kinds of candy. Lv Beiguang dug out two cartons of cigarettes that someone had given him this past summer. He didn’t smoke, so they’d just been sitting there.
Guodong and Li Xue dug out everything they had that could prove their identity, and the three of them headed out together.
Jing Chu immediately started cooking. With just the four of them making dumplings, it wasn’t much trouble at all. So she kneaded the dough, chopped the meat, chopped the cabbage, bustling around by herself, happy and busy.
When they got to the Educated Youth Office, they went straight to the leader. Since they’d already gotten Director Sun’s call, this side just went through the formalities. They checked the two kids’ papers and then issued the proof letter.
Lv Beiguang thanked them profusely. He pulled out a little cloth pouch with candy and cigarettes inside and stuffed it into the hands of the person in charge.
The three of them walked out of the Educated Youth Office, all of them much more relaxed now.
"Dad, let’s go home for lunch."
Lv Beiguang checked the time and decided to go back to work after they’d eaten.
The happiest of all was Li Xue. She wasn’t stupid; she knew that following Guodong like this without a name or status was gambling with her whole future. Now she finally had legal protection.
When the three got home, Jing Chu had everything ready.
Guodong rode over to Jiang Xinyu’s house to bring coal, then came back to tend the fire while the three of them wrapped the dumplings.
"Sister-in-law, congratulations. Tomorrow you two will be a real married couple."
Li Xue nodded with a smile. "Yeah, tomorrow I’ll be your real sister-in-law."
There was a smile on Lv Beiguang’s face as well. Seeing his daughter-in-law and daughter get along so well, of course he was happy.
From now on, there would be four people in the family. And the household would only grow bigger in the future. The more he thought about it, the more excited he felt.
After lunch, he didn’t rest. He directly rode back to work. This was the perfect time to call Li Yunqiao.
"Brother Li, everything’s arranged on this side, and the proof letter has been issued. Have them go early tomorrow morning to get the certificate."
At this, Li Yunqiao was even more satisfied with Lv Beiguang. This was giving his daughter the best guarantee.
"In-law, the girl was thoughtless and made you worry."
"Brother Li, please don’t say that. Xue’er is wonderful. I’ll repeat what I said: from now on I’ll treat Xue’er like my own daughter and dote on her."
"Hahaha, of course I believe you, in-law."
The two of them exchanged a few more words and then hung up. Li Yunqiao dialed Chaoyang’s number.
Chaoyang was home today, because Han Xiangjun wasn’t doing his proper job and had dumped everything on Chaoyang; he himself was now in charge of keeping the kids company.
