Chapter 202: Chapter 202: The Idea of Forming a Bodyguard Team
The members who had gathered to watch applauded, deeply impressed by Wei Wu’s skill.
After retrieving the long nail from the target, Wei Wu said, "When it comes to throwing knives and darts, I wasn’t the best in the army. There were guys who could shoot blindfolded, locating targets by sound! Of course, it’s not as exaggerated as you read in novels."
Wei Wu didn’t have the cold arrogance of a master. Instead, he patiently explained things to the crowd.
"Wei Wu! Let’s go to the rest area to talk."
Seeing that Wu Yun had something to discuss with Wei Wu, Wen Meng took the initiative to pack up Wu Yun’s hand wraps and boxing gloves. This drew envious glances from the members watching on the sly.
"Wei Wu, I’m very impressed with your skills. The salary will be what I offered earlier today: thirty thousand a month with full benefits, plus a separate year-end bonus. For now, I’ll have your employment file registered under Little Red Car."
"Do you have any questions about that?"
Wei Wu thought for a moment before asking, "Boss, what’s the vacation policy? I have some family matters, so I’ll need to go home to check on things occasionally."
Wu Yun nodded in understanding. "That’s not a problem. I’m usually in Rongcheng without much going on, so you can go home whenever. Your free time might be more limited only when I travel to other cities."
"However, I was thinking, if you have any other comrades-in-arms, you could invite them to join. After all, I’ll be traveling all over the country and even the world in the future. You can’t be on call 24/7. If we have a team of four or five, you can rotate shifts, and going home won’t be an issue."
Wei Wu said hesitantly, "Boss, my comrades are all still serving in the military. The ones who’ve retired either did so due to age or were medically discharged for injuries."
There was one other reason Wei Wu didn’t mention: being discharged as a martyr.
"No worries. We can talk about it later if we find someone suitable," Wu Yun said casually. After all, he didn’t have an urgent need for so many bodyguards just yet.
But seeing Wei Wu’s hesitant expression, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back, Wu Yun asked, "What is it? Do you know someone suitable?"
"From my time peacekeeping in Africa, I got to know some Russians. I spent some time with their squad in Ukraine this year. They’re private military contractors, which is very different from mercenaries. Their team usually takes jobs protecting wealthy businessmen, so they have plenty of experience as bodyguards."
"Including me, the team had five members total: two Russians, an American, and a German."
Wu Yun was quite interested in these legendary matters, which felt so far removed from his own life. He asked, "Doesn’t that kind of work pay really well? Would they really be willing to work as bodyguards?"
’Having bodyguards from four different countries... Just imagine the sheer cool factor. It’s an invisible flex.’
Wei Wu smiled wryly. "It’s true, the pay is great when you land a big contract. But in recent years, even in conflicts like in Libya and Syria, clients just want to throw money at hiring mercenaries to fill out the numbers. Small private military contractor teams like them are finding it very difficult to survive. They’ve only been scraping by these past few years."
"I know this for a fact from my time in Ukraine, so they’ve all been thinking about a career change. Of course, I can vouch for their character. The salary you’re offering, Boss, is actually very high, and the working environment is much safer here than abroad! So I’m guessing they would all agree."
Wu Yun nodded, but then the issue of visas for foreigners in the country came to mind. "You can ask them first," he said. "When I have some time in the next few days, I’ll ask a friend how to handle the visa situation."
Wu Yun casually picked up a bottle of water and handed it to Wei Wu. "You can start work tomorrow. Rolls-Royce is delivering my car in the morning, so you can take some time to get familiar with it."
"In the afternoon, I’ll take you to the company to handle your onboarding."
"Oh, and no need to come in too early. They’re delivering the car at ten o’clock."
After giving Wei Wu a few more instructions, an excited Wei Wu said his goodbyes and left Vitality Boxing.
On the way back, Wen Meng was very curious about Wei Wu’s background. She knew Wu Yun was far more skilled than the average person, so she never expected to see him get so thoroughly thrashed.
"He’s my new bodyguard. What do you think? Impressive, right?"
Wen Meng gave Wu Yun a seductive glance. "No matter how impressive he is, he’s not as impressive as you are in my heart."
Wu Yun wrapped his arm around Wen Meng’s waist and, right there in front of everyone on the street, gave her a kiss on the cheek. "You really know the right things to say!"
Wen Meng looked at Wu Yun with her captivating, doe-like eyes. "But... he looks so familiar. Have I seen him somewhere before?"
"You’re right. He’s one of the security guards from our complex! I’ve recruited him to my cause."
...
The next day at ten in the morning, Wei Wu, having already processed his resignation, stood behind Wu Yun and Wen Meng, gazing at three flatbed trucks parked in a neat line along the roadside.
Aston Martin had joined the commotion as well, delivering Wu Yun’s DB9 to Shida Modern Garden.
The license plates were already on all three cars. They weren’t special vanity plates, but they all contained the auspicious numbers 6 and 8.
A crowd of onlookers gathered, most of them seeing someone take delivery of three luxury cars at once for the first time. And to top it off, it was a resident of their very own complex.
After all three cars were safely unloaded, Xiang Yuting and the Aston Martin saleswoman, Liu Fang, approached Wu Yun with folders in hand.
Xiang Yuting glanced at the completely different beautiful woman standing beside Wu Yun and couldn’t help but think to herself, ’The private lives of the rich truly are colorful.’
After signing all the papers, Wu Yun said to Xiang Yuting, "Could you please familiarize my bodyguard with the controls of the Phantom?"
Then he turned to Wei Wu and said, "You go take it for a drive to get used to it. Once you’re comfortable, drive this young lady back to her dealership."
After Wei Wu and the saleswoman left, Wu Yun smiled and placed the keys to the Wraith in Wen Meng’s hands. "Here, drive the Wraith back first. I bought three new parking spaces nearby."
Wen Meng said anxiously, "But I don’t know how to drive a Rolls-Royce!"
"It’s fine! The gear selector is the same as a G-Wagen’s. It’s a column shifter," Wu Yun said before getting into the DB9.
Ten minutes later, looking at the three sports cars parked side-by-side, Wu Yun couldn’t help but smile. ’Well, that embarrassing mistake from the National Day holiday won’t be happening again!’
"Junior," Wen Meng teased, "did you buy all these four-seater sports cars so you can pick up me and my two ’sisters’ all at once for a drive?"
...
Wei Wu quickly familiarized himself with the Phantom’s controls and arrived at the entrance of the complex to pick up Wu Yun at 2:00 PM sharp.
Wu Yun first had Wei Wu drive two laps around Chenglong Avenue.
"Wow, the suspension on this is so much smoother than a sports car’s!" Wu Yun exclaimed from the back seat, his legs crossed comfortably.
Wei Wu nodded in agreement. "Definitely. It’s way more comfortable than the armored cars and tanks I’ve driven. Now this is what I call driving!"
Wu Yun then had Wei Wu take the car onto the highway to test it at 120 km/h. He could barely feel the sensation of traveling at such a high speed.
After their long test drive, Wei Wu finally drove into the technology park where Little Red Car was located.
Because Wu Yun had called ahead, the HR department quickly processed Wei Wu’s employment paperwork.
