Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Investment Intention

Wu Yun’s interest was piqued. He decided he would ask about the specifics later. If it sounded promising, throwing some money at it wasn’t out of the question. He knew that his focus was currently centered entirely on the internet, which wasn’t ideal. However, he had always lacked the right connections, leaving him with no way into other industries.

Now, an opportunity was presenting itself. It was worth a look. ’What if it succeeds?’ An investment of tens or even hundreds of millions wouldn’t be a major blow to him anyway.

After Wang Gang finished speaking, he stepped off the stage.

Soon, others went on stage to speak. They were either sharing their woes or pitching small-time projects.

The crowd listened as they ate, taking note of anything that caught their interest.

Here and there, you could hear someone say, "I know so-and-so, I can make an introduction for you! But... you know how it is."

.....

At Wu Yun’s table sat Luo Heng and his friends, most of whom were owners of modified cars.

They were all discussing the factory project Wang Gang had just mentioned.

Wu Yong noticed Wu Yun’s contemplative expression and nudged Luo Heng’s leg with his foot, motioning for him to look at Wu Yun.

"Wu Yun has been thinking ever since our boss finished speaking. Looks like he’s really interested! Your schoolmate is no ordinary guy!" Wu Yong whispered, his voice low enough for only the two of them to hear.

"That’s for sure. Look at the girl next to him—she’s not his girlfriend! But her purse and everything, he probably bought them for her."

"I even looked up the watch he was wearing last time. It’s a Jaeger-LeCoultre. Guess how much it costs?" Luo Heng said conspiratorially.

"Over a million?" Wu Yong was startled by his own guess. He had never seen anyone wear a watch worth as much as a luxury car.

Luo Heng nodded. "1.75 million, to be exact! And what’s even more enviable is that his girlfriend from school, Wen Meng, has a G63. I heard he gave it to her."

Seeing Wu Yong’s strange look, Luo Heng sighed. "You guessed it. She’s the girl I was chasing all last semester. You know the rest of the story."

"I was genuinely overpowered by his sheer force, not scared off by his money!" Luo Heng muttered, defending himself.

"Whatever the case, you’re in a prime position now! You have to seize this opportunity! You know, working on five or ten small projects isn’t worth as much as the scraps left behind by these tycoons." Wu Yong was in his early thirties with a wife and kids; all he wanted was to make steady progress, and this seemed like a great opportunity.

Luo Heng’s expression grew determined. He decided he needed to latch onto this powerhouse.

"Young Master Wu!"

Wu Yun looked up. Lost in thought, he didn’t notice the change in how Luo Heng addressed him, but Xu Chenxi, sitting beside him, certainly did.

"It looks like you’re pretty interested in Brother Gang’s project, huh?"

Wu Yun didn’t deny it, simply nodding.

"I’m somewhat interested. I’ll go ask him about it later."

Luo Heng felt a lump in his throat, unsure how to begin. After all, he was just a college junior with barely any real-world experience.

Seeing Luo Heng’s awkward expression, Wu Yun immediately understood.

"You want to invest too?"

Luo Heng laughed awkwardly. "No, no! I don’t have that kind of capital! I was just hoping to see if there might be any related side work I could get involved in."

Wu Yun nodded. He didn’t turn him down. Instead, he asked, "What’s your family’s business?"

Luo Heng knew at once that Wu Yun wasn’t opposed, so he replied with a smile, "We’re in building materials—all kinds of steel, aluminum alloy profiles, and other construction supplies."

"Alright. If there’s a need, I’ll let you know. The prerequisite is that your products have to be up to standard. But I still need to see what the project is about first."

...

After lunch, Wang Gang arranged for the recreational activities to begin.

Wu Yun, with Xu Chenxi in tow, found the busy Wang Gang. "Brother Gang, I’d like to learn more about that project you mentioned. I was wondering when you might have time for us to discuss it in detail."

Wang Gang wasn’t surprised; he had been waiting for Wu Yun and the other young heirs to approach him. "Of course. How about this? I’ll book a place for tomorrow afternoon so we can talk properly. I’ll send you the location later tonight once it’s confirmed."

Having gotten the answer he wanted, Wu Yun took his leave. "Brother Gang! You guys enjoy yourselves! I have to go, something came up."

Wang Gang didn’t ask why, simply seeing the two of them to their car.

Once they were in the car, the previously silent Xu Chenxi finally spoke.

What pleased Wu Yun, however, was that while Xu Chenxi could be quite calculating, she had a thorough understanding of a man’s psychology. She knew exactly when to strike up a conversation and when to serve him food and water, which greatly satisfied his vanity.

Xu Chenxi then asked with a smile, "Darling, is this what parties for you rich kids are like?"

It was Wu Yun’s first time attending this kind of gathering, too. He calmly retorted, "Why? Is it different from what you imagined?"

Xu Chenxi put on a bashful expression. "I thought the after-party would be something more like... one of those infamous high-society orgies."

Wu Yun replied with a straight face, "We’re all respectable people here! Of course, that kind of thing exists, but they’re not in our circle."

Indeed, Wu Yun’s circle wasn’t very wide at the moment. But once all his companies were fully launched, his social sphere would likely be filled with business magnates.

Once he truly made a name for himself, he probably wouldn’t attend gatherings like today’s anymore.

"So, are you really going to get involved in that project Wang Gang mentioned?" Xu Chenxi asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. It wasn’t that she thought Wu Yun couldn’t afford it; it was just that he was in the internet business, which was a world away from opening factories and getting into manufacturing.

"If it has potential, investing a little is no big deal," Wu Yun said calmly, as if he were talking about a simple investment of a few thousand dollars.

Seeing her hesitant expression, Wu Yun smiled. "Just say what’s on your mind. I won’t bite."

Xu Chenxi complained internally, ’You might not be a tiger, but you still want to devour me!’

On her face, however, she wore a hopeful smile. "Darling, what would you think if I started my own business? Being a flight attendant is so restrictive! Whenever I want to see you, I have to see if I can get time off!"

Wu Yun wasn’t surprised to hear her say this. He remembered she had seemed tempted the last time he offered to invest in her.

"So, have you decided what you want to do?" Wu Yun asked.

Xu Chenxi pouted. "It’s just an idea for now!"

Wu Yun focused on driving for a moment before saying, "Go to Modu. My focus will likely shift there in the future."

Seeing Xu Chenxi’s surprised expression, Wu Yun smiled. "Figure out what you want to do! I can give you the investment. I hope you’ll be able to earn enough to buy your own place in Modu!"

Xu Chenxi instantly felt the pressure. She understood the subtext in Wu Yun’s words: he would provide the investment, but earning enough to buy a home would be on her.

’But then again, the investment amount was sure to be substantial!’

Nevertheless, Xu Chenxi was thrilled. She happily planted a bright red lipstick mark on Wu Yun’s cheek. "Mwah! Thank you, darling! I’ll start thinking about what I want to do as soon as I get back. And when I have a plan, I’ll need you to look it over for me!"
