Chapter 187: Chapter 167: Proactive Zhang Qiuyue

To avoid getting stuck in the flood of returning holiday traffic, they got up around six the next morning and hit the expressway.

But the Rongmian Expressway was only a two-lane highway, far from adequate for the massive volume of traffic.

Even though Wu Yun and Wen Meng had left just after six, the heavy traffic on the expressway still forced them to slow down occasionally.

Fortunately, the drive was smooth, and they didn’t hit any major traffic jams.

The moment they got home, Wen Meng tossed her backpack on the sofa and headed for the bedroom, yawning, "We went to bed late and got up early. I’m going to get some more beauty sleep!"

Wu Yun grinned, slipped on a pair of sandals, and went into the bathroom to wash up. A moment later, his voice came from the bedroom. "I’ll sleep with you, hehe~"

...

What Wu Yun hadn’t expected was that even after the break for the National Day holiday, his fame at school hadn’t diminished in the slightest. Every day in class, he felt like a monkey being gawked at. Even the professors remembered him well, so he never had a chance to skip.

Wu Yun occasionally browsed the school’s online forum and found that the pinned post was still about him and Wen Meng.

After all, the two of them had stolen the show at the welcome gala, and videos of their performance were still being widely circulated among other universities.

Today was another big Si Xiu lecture for the whole grade. The first, second, and third classes of the Business Management program were all gathered in one large, tiered lecture hall.

Liu Yongheng and Li Shiming had skipped class, saying they were going to check out some cars for Liu Yongheng.

A frustrated Wu Yun had no choice but to sit in class and answer the roll call for them.

Sitting in the back of the classroom, Wu Yun scrolled boredly through his phone. He couldn’t bring himself to listen to a single word of the lecture, and his Si Xiu textbook was cleaner than his own face.

He had already listened attentively once in his past life. It was all just material he’d already learned back in middle and high school.

"Excuse me, Wu Yun, is anyone sitting next to you?" A gentle voice washed over him, accompanied by the scent of fresh perfume. ’That familiar scent.’

Wu Yun glanced at Pang Guang to his right, his eyes darting to signal him not to move. There were still a few empty seats to their right, and Wu Yun himself was on the aisle.

But Pang Guang completely misinterpreted Wu Yun’s signal. He immediately stood up and moved to the innermost seat in the row, leaving a wide-open space next to Wu Yun.

Wu Yun sighed internally. ’What a useless teammate. I have to hold a meeting with them tonight. From now on, in situations like this, they need to run interference for me. One girl, Wen Meng, is more than enough to handle at school.’

Wu Yun didn’t want to get entangled in any more emotional debts. Of course, he didn’t mind just being friends with girls, but it depended entirely on the person.

This classmate, Zhang Qiuyue, with her whole damsel-in-distress act, was definitely not someone Wu Yun wanted to get involved with. Even if her looks were rated over a ninety, he had no intention of getting entangled, especially since they saw each other all the time.

Exasperated, Wu Yun couldn’t exactly lie and say the seat was taken, so he stood up and moved over to sit right next to Pang Guang.

"Boss, you—"

"Don’t talk! Just follow my lead!"

Seeing Wu Yun’s maneuver, Zhang Qiuyue giggled. "Wu Yun, you don’t have to move so far away. It’s just me; I don’t need all this space."

Then, putting on a pitiable expression, Zhang Qiuyue said, "Wu Yun, why don’t you two move a bit closer? It’s kind of awkward for me to sit with all this empty space. I didn’t realize I was so late that all the front seats would be gone."

Since Zhang Qiuyue had put it that way, Wu Yun didn’t hesitate and shot a look at Pang Guang.

This time, Pang Guang read the situation correctly and moved a few seats over with Wu Yun.

Just then, the Si Xiu professor began his routine of taking roll call at the start of class, interrupting whatever Zhang Qiuyue was about to say next.

"Liu Yongheng!"

"Here!" Wu Yun called out, altering his voice.

...

"Li Shiming!"

Pang Guang also disguised his voice, calling out, "Over here!"

Zhang Qiuyue covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. She found it amusing to watch Wu Yun and his friend furtively answer the roll call for their buddies.

A few minutes later, the roll call was finished, and the Si Xiu professor began lecturing straight from the textbook. He would occasionally joke with the students in the front row, but none of this concerned Wu Yun.

Wu Yun was busy fending off Zhang Qiuyue.

"Wu Yun, where did you go for the National Day holiday?" Zhang Qiuyue asked in a low voice, looking at him with a curious expression.

Because she was speaking so softly, she had to lean in close to Wu Yun.

Wu Yun smiled, leaned away to create some distance, and said, "I went to Wen Meng’s family’s home to meet her parents!"

Hearing this, Zhang Qiuyue covered her mouth in feigned surprise. "Ah! You’ve already met her parents?! So soon! Are you two serious?"

Drawing on his experience from the back-and-forth with Xu Chenxi, Wu Yun instinctively knew how to respond. He put on a proud look and said, "But of course. Her parents were very pleased with me."

Zhang Qiuyue looked Wu Yun up and down and nodded in agreement. "True. With your looks and family background, I doubt many families could refuse you! Mine included!"

As she spoke, she kept glancing toward the front, as if afraid the professor would notice them.

When Wu Yun merely smiled without responding, Zhang Qiuyue tried another topic. "So, Wu Yun, did you really spend all seven days at Wen Meng’s house?"

Zhang Qiuyue lowered her head and turned to the side to look at him, her knees pressed together as they "unintentionally" drifted closer to his. It was as if she was oblivious to breaking the human "Roche limit" of personal space.

"Not the whole time," Wu Yun said with a smile. "I went back to Jingyang for a bit and also took a trip to Modu."

Zhang Qiuyue looked at him with envy. "I’m so jealous. I was cooped up at home for all seven days. It was incredibly boring."

Then, she asked excitedly, "Wu Yun, did you take any pictures on your trip? I didn’t see you post anything on social media!"

Wu Yun was exasperated by her constant questions. Any other guy, subjected to her expectant, adoring gaze, would have had his confidence swell to bursting. He would have already whipped out his phone, handed it to her, and said, "Look all you want!"

Wu Yun could feel his calf occasionally brush against Zhang Qiuyue’s knee, but the contact was so brief it seemed completely accidental.

"I didn’t take many pictures, so I didn’t bother posting them. Besides, I’ve been to Modu plenty of times. I was just there to handle some business."

Wu Yun said this while replying to some work-related messages on his phone.

Privacy screen protectors weren’t popular yet, so by sitting up straight, Zhang Qiuyue could easily see the messages on Wu Yun’s phone.

The messages addressed him as "President Wu!" or "Mr. Wu!"

In Zhang Qiuyue’s mind, Wu Yun was suddenly in a completely different league from the immature boys at school.

’I can’t believe I made such a discovery just by sitting here today. Wu Yun has already started his own business! I absolutely have to get my hands on a high-quality man like him.’

’As for him meeting Wen Meng’s parents, that’s not a problem. Plenty of couples who’ve already gotten their marriage licenses break up before the wedding banquet!’

At this thought, Zhang Qiuyue picked up her phone and sent a message. Then, she watched Wu Yun’s face with a beaming smile as she waited for him to finish his texts, her eyes holding the look of someone gazing at her beloved.

Anyone with eyes could see that Zhang Qiuyue was interested in Wu Yun.
