Chapter 632: Chapter 630: Holding Again and Again
Watching Chuchu leave in haste, Yan Hui swallowed back the unfinished words and turned to look at Ming Wan, whose cheeks were flushed.
He looked speechlessly at the half bottle of wine remaining on the table and the wine-stained glass, realizing that this girl drank alone.
"Wanwan, didn’t I tell you not to drink?" Yan Hui couldn’t help but use a lecturing tone.
Ming Wan, already feeling anxious inside, blinked her eyes. But when the alcohol surged up from her stomach, she instead felt a reckless urge and retorted:
"Why should I listen to you? Today I won’t listen to anyone; I just want to drink, and I will drink!"
Wow! She’s actually talking back; she must be really drunk.
Yan Hui, with a hint of indulgence, sat across from her, both amused and helpless, and looked intently at Ming Wan with eyes full of inquiry and observation.
Ming Wan, feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, twisted her body, picked up the glass, and took another small sip.
The way she drank, like a kitten lapping water, was so gentle and elegant that Yan Hui couldn’t help but smile and ask, "Who are you upset with?"
Ming Wan didn’t expect he would see through her so quickly. She lowered her head, unwilling to look at him or reveal her troubles, as if a part of her didn’t want Yan Hui to know of her embarrassment.
Seeing her lips tightly pursed and her back straightened in a stubborn manner, Yan Hui thought of the time when they were abroad.
During those times, when Ming Wan was stubborn, she would also show this demeanor—silent, not looking at him, and not moving.
Don’t be fooled by her gentle and quiet lady-like appearance; inside, she’s still just a child who hasn’t grown up! Yan Hui’s smile widened.
Yan Hui couldn’t help teasing her: "Looks like you’ve had a fight with your boyfriend. Anyway, certain things can’t be discussed with me. If you don’t want to say, I won’t ask. Have you eaten enough? If you’re done, I’ll take you to Chuchu’s house."
"It’s good that you like staying at Chuchu’s house and being close to her, but don’t stay away from home too long. Your dad and your brother, even though they’re busy with work, will still worry about you. If they sense your little feelings over time, they’ll definitely meddle in your relationships, and you’ll end up crying in secret again." Yan Hui rambled on, unaware of how motherly he sounded in front of Ming Wan.
Listening to Yan Hui’s chatter beside her ear, Ming Wan couldn’t help but feel wronged and defended herself:
"I don’t have a boyfriend. I wasn’t fighting with a boyfriend—you’re the one fighting with your girlfriend. My brother wouldn’t worry about me, and I wouldn’t hide to cry. I’m not a child anymore."
Yan Hui laughed: "Alright, you’re not a child."
Ming Wan couldn’t help but glare at him: "What are you laughing at!" After saying this, she lifted her glass and took another small sip.
"Alright, no more drinking." Yan Hui took the glass from her hand. Although Ming Wan pouted in dissatisfaction, she didn’t try to snatch it back, only looking at him with furrowed brows.
Seeing her conflicted and upset expression, Yan Hui’s curiosity was piqued, so he asked: "What’s wrong? Are you upset with your brother? Your brother would never harm you..."
But this remark unexpectedly hit Ming Wan’s sore spot. She immediately interrupted: "Yes, he wouldn’t harm me; he just uses me, throwing me into a den of wolves to watch them fight."
Despite wanting to keep her embarrassment from Yan Hui, she couldn’t resist his probing and said whatever was on her mind—perhaps she really was drunk.
Hearing her words, Yan Hui’s expression turned cold, his brows furrowing slightly as he asked, "What happened? How did he throw you to the wolves?"
Seeing Yan Hui’s concern for her, Ming Wan felt a warm affection but didn’t want him to worry about or confront her brother. After all, even Chuchu didn’t want to be involved with her brother anymore, and she knew Yan Hui’s persistent nature might lead to unpleasant situations. So, she gently sighed.
"Brother Yan, it’s nothing. I’m just throwing a tantrum. I’ll stay at Sister Chuchu’s house for a couple of days to clear my mind. Once I’ve thought it through, I’ll go back." Though slightly dizzy from the drink, she tried hard to organize her thoughts and spoke slowly.
Seeing her putting up such an enduring front, Yan Hui felt uncomfortable inside but didn’t press further, deciding he had his own ways to find out more.
The girl in front of him was no longer the little girl who needed his care from a few years ago; she had grown up.
"Alright, I’ll take you to Chuchu’s."
"Hmm." Ming Wan shook her head to clear it a bit.
Yan Hui stood up first, waiting nearby as Ming Wan gathered her things.
Ming Wan grabbed her little bag and moved out from behind the table, muttering: "What did Sister Chuchu say she was going to do? I didn’t quite catch that just now."
As she took a step forward, her stomach hit the edge of the table, causing her to fall back onto the chair.
She’s definitely drunk!
Yan Hui shook his head and reached out to help her.
A clean, white, slender hand suddenly appeared in front of her. Ming Wan, looking at this strong yet beautiful hand, thought: This hand is so familiar, just like Brother Yan’s, both so perfect.
Seeing her staring dazedly at his hand, Yan Hui waved it in front of her and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Ming Wan reached out her own hand, and Yan Hui assumed she wanted to hold his. Surprisingly, Ming Wan placed her hand next to his, comparing them: "My hand isn’t as pretty as yours."
Yan Hui couldn’t help but laugh, looking at Ming Wan’s flawlessly pure, art-like fingers: "Yours are the prettiest." Saying that, he reached out to grab her wrist, intending to pull her up and take her back to rest.
Being pulled up by him, Ming Wan stood, but her foot got caught on the table leg, causing her to stagger. Already unsteady from the alcohol, she became even more unstable and leaned toward Yan Hui.
Yan Hui’s eyes were quick, and he immediately turned around, leaning back to catch her in his arms.
Luckily, he caught her, preventing her from hitting the ground or anything else, and he breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she shouldn’t be drinking like this outside.
As Yan Hui tried to steady Ming Wan, he unexpectedly looked up to see her bright eyes staring intently at him.
He was all too familiar with that gaze, but had no romantic feelings for Ming Wan, so he took a step back and gently pushed her away.
With her whole being leaning on Yan Hui, Ming Wan was caught off guard by his push, unable to stand properly, and continued to fall forward.
Actions are always faster than thoughts.
Yan Hui reached out to catch her again. This time, Ming Wan’s lips pressed against Yan Hui’s neck, and Yan Hui froze; before he could help her up, he felt a wet sensation on his neck.
Ming Wan, gazing at the smooth, jade-like skin before her and inhaling a faint, refreshing scent, found it quite pleasant. Feeling a bit dry-mouthed, she licked her lips, inadvertently licking Yan Hui’s neck.
After a pause, Yan Hui immediately lifted her up without further hesitation. Ming Wan, cheeks flushed, gave him a silly grin and closed her eyes, relaxing back down.
