Chapter 1064: Chapter 1064: Used to It
"Thank you for the dinner," Jerry Taylor said with a smile, not bringing up anything else, truly giving the feeling of a good neighbor’s normal interaction, making Emma Wells feel no awkwardness at all.
"Actually, I’ve already bought food. You didn’t have to go through the trouble of cooking for me," Jerry Taylor said, smiling.
Emma Wells looked at the man in front of her, with gentle brows and a serene demeanor, feeling inexplicably sad. She also heard from Lucy Wells about the kind of life he was leading.
The wife he found did not love him, only used him, and even his biological daughter was like that.
Over the years, he had been hiding his identity, silently taking risks. Decades had passed like this, without even a single person to look after him.
At least she had her mother’s warmth and Lucy becoming her support. Over the years, the days he lived were much harder than hers.
"You eat outside food every day, can that be healthy?" Emma Wells couldn’t help but ask.
Two pancakes, a bag of instant noodles, was this his dinner?
Jerry Taylor smiled slightly and said, "I’m used to it."
Just these three words touched Emma Wells’s heartstrings, making her heart ache. She pushed the lunch box forward: "Eat a bite while it’s hot. If you think it doesn’t taste good, next time..."
The words she almost blurted out made Emma pause, not continuing to speak.
They seemed like the most familiar strangers. Her mentioning a next time, wasn’t it a bit abrupt?
While Emma Wells was hesitating, Jerry Taylor had already picked up the lunch box and started eating quickly.
Watching him eat rapidly, yet not a bit vulgar.
In just ten minutes, Jerry Taylor finished an entire large lunch box of food cleanly.
This speed dispelled the slightest strangeness Emma Wells felt just now from her heart.
"You... eating so fast, are you sure your stomach is alright?" Emma Wells subconsciously asked.
"I’m fine," Jerry Taylor said, wiping his mouth with a napkin, "I’ve always been busy over the years, and I keep my meal times under ten minutes."
"Also, I haven’t eaten home-cooked food in decades," Jerry Taylor’s sigh surprised Emma Wells even more, "Don’t you know how to cook yourself?"
"No time," Jerry Taylor shook his head, "Even if I’m not on a mission, I have to do a lot of research at home."
"And your wife?" Emma Wells asked incredulously.
"Wife?" Jerry Taylor laughed self-deprecatingly, "Apart from providing my genes when she was doing IVF, I really don’t remember having a wife."
When Emma Wells returned home, she was still in a daze.
"Mom? What’s wrong?" Lucy Wells immediately saw her mother was not quite right and nervously went over to support her.
"It’s nothing," Emma Wells snapped back to her senses and said with a smile, "Let’s eat, let’s eat."
Since Emma Wells didn’t want to say, Lucy Wells didn’t ask much. After the family had a happy dinner, Kai Bright then left.
He, as usual, waited until Lucy Wells went into her room, then he turned around and walked toward the door opposite.
He didn’t even need to knock; as he stood in front of the door, the security door was already open.
Kai Bright went inside and, looking at the leisurely Jerry Taylor inside, really didn’t know what to say.
Instead, Jerry Taylor broke the silence first and said, "Sit."
"Uncle, you moved quickly," Kai Bright said with admiration, "Already moved in."
