Chapter 92: Ch 91: What did you do?
Roku paused and calmed down. He did not know what had come over him, but it felt like he had retreated back to the state he had been in before Kael found him.
His anger had almost gotten the best of him, but he had thankfully snapped out of it in time.
"I...am fine...I think. I just wanted to be able to use my magic. But something is blocking it."
Roku was not one to tell others about his problems, but Kael had won his trust. And since he had asked Roku to trust Seraphina, he decided to tell her what was wrong.
Seraphina looked surprised, but she stepped inside with a determined look on her face.
"Hmm, it seems like a condition I can help you with. Can you let me take a look?"
She asked, and Roku hesitated but nodded. He could give her a chance...for now.
__________
Seraphina reached out slowly to touch Roku’s shoulder before she sent her mana through his body.
Divine power had the ability to cleanse other energies, making it an excellent source for removing curses and barriers.
That allowed her to feel the barrier around Roku’s powers, and she could sense how it was blocking them.
She pressed hard on it and it started to crack. But it was still solid enough to make her pant and fail.
"This barrier-!"
"So even you cannot break it?"
Roku asked in a dejected voice, and he looked sad. Seraphina felt her own lips turn downward, but she did not want to force the barrier to break down either.
She was just afraid that she might end up crippling or killing Roku if she was not careful enough.
’But does it matter even if we reduce him to that state? All we did was try to help. But if an accident or two happened...would anyone even blame us?’
A voice in her head asked, and Seraphina did not realize what she was doing until she heard a loud gasp.
She looked down and noticed the pale look on Roku’s face as well as the marks on the kid’s exposed shoulder. She had caused those marks.
"I...are you hurt?"
Seraphina’s powers healed those marks instantly, but the warmth of his skin remained under her touch.
"I am fine...I think. But the barrier-"
’Tell him that it is hard to remove the barrier, but not impossible. We can do it...but it would put his life at risk.’
The voice came back, and Seraphina felt like she had had enough. She could no longer take the whispering anymore.
She was losing her mind with everything that was going on. She was also afraid of being hated by Kael if he were to find out how twisted she was becoming.
"Excuse me, but are you alright-"
That was the breaking point for Seraphina. She took a deep breath and ran out of the room. She could no longer handle it.
The corruption lingered around her body, making her hallucinations even worse. She felt dizzy and uncertain.
’You certainly cannot handle yourself. Now go to sleep. I will make sure to wake you up tomorrow.’
The voice whispered, and Seraphina closed her eyes. Sleep pulled her deep into unconsciousness, where she did not have to think anymore.
...
Seraphina’s body came to a halt in the middle of the hallway and, within seconds, the air around her changed. Her divine power became impossible to detect and her expression became one filled with nostalgia.
But the thing that had changed the most about her was her situational awareness.
Her usual self could have never noticed Leon’s presence in the hallway, much less dodged his attack. But she easily dodged his sword and even struck it with her divine power, cracking it.
"Who are you? There is no point in lying to me. Seraphina could have never dodged my attack."
Leon sounded calm even as he pulled back his broken sword. The fact that he did not attack Seraphina again meant that he realized she had no intention of hurting him.
At the same time, she could feel his unrestricted aura as well, and it did not match the person she recalled.
"I am in the same situation as you are. I assume that everyone who participated in that magic will eventually find their way back here. It is only a matter of time now."
Seraphina was certain of that much. The magic they had used to turn back time and to drag Kael back would ensure such a thing.
"And...what are you planning to do? Are you going to take over your current consciousness and live in place of her? Kael is not stupid."
"Hmm, I agree. Teacher is not stupid, but he does have a tendency to overlook things once in a while. But don’t worry. I am going to play nice and wait quietly until I am needed. I don’t want to stress Kael out too much."
Seraphina assured him, but Leon did not seem to believe her.
It was a shame that the bond of trust they held between them had broken apart after what happened.
"Anyway, what I am planning is not important. Rather, should we not discuss what we should do about that vessel that is currently on the verge of exploding?"
Seraphina asked, and Leon looked at the door she was pointing toward.
Conflict colored his face, but he ultimately chose to turn around and walk away.
"I am afraid we cannot do much about that at the moment. Kael has his magic all around that room. It will go off the second we use too much force. Are you going to risk being found out?"
Leon asked, and Seraphina shook her head.
"Ah, you got me there. I won’t do anything either. However, I have a feeling our problem will take care of itself very soon. Perhaps, as soon as tomorrow even."
Leon paused and gave Seraphina a searching look.
"What are you planning? And what did you do?"
He asked, but Seraphina just smiled back at him in her mysterious way.
"Don’t worry about it. I promise it is nothing that would hurt Teacher. As for what’s going to happen...let’s wait for tomorrow, shall we? Oh and about that promise to keep Kael busy...I don’t think I want to keep it anymore. At least, not as a favor."
