Chapter 144: Ch 143: Seraphina, Thank You
’Darn it! I thought we had the Saintess under control! Just when did she break free of our magic?’
Cardinal Flux felt frustrated as he watched the Saintess leave. This action from her was enough to make everyone question him.
Luckily for him, the first part of his plan had gone flawlessly, and the identity of the hero had changed. He finally had at least one important person under his control.

"Ehem, it seems like the Saintess is too tired to continue after giving her prophecy. But as per her words, we shall crown a new hero today. Neil, you will become our hope for the future."
Cardinal Flux put his hands on Neil’s shoulders, but Neil kept looking behind him at Kael and Leon. To stop this, Cardinal Flux stepped in front of him and blocked his view of the hall.
But that only made Neil even more curious about the so-called hero he was replacing and, by proxy, his teacher.
A lot of people had doubts about him and the prophecy, but he would prove himself to them and make them forget all about it. And as for the threat of corruption...?
’My sponsor assured me that they would take care of it, so there is no need for me to worry about it. All I need to focus on is the hero’s education and the temple’s glory.’
The people were still speaking softly, but no one dared to openly challenge him this time.
His plan to gain power was already working. Now he just needed to keep it up and make sure the ’new’ hero remained under his control.

"Hey, wait for me! T-Teacher, are you angry? I-It was not my intention...I did not know what came over me-"
Seraphina ran after Leon and Kael as fast as she could, and Iris followed her at a moderate pace.
Kael had heard her cries and was actively trying to stop walking. But it was tough with Leon dragging him outside.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, Kael decided that he had had enough of being dragged around by Leon and used his magic to break free. That made Leon pause as well.
Seraphina flinched once she neared Leon, but the guilt she expected to feel over her actions was not present.
’Tsk, Leon looks just as annoying as ever. Does even getting his title revoked mean nothing to him now? To think that there was a time when he did everything he could to keep his title as the hero...’
Seraphina huffed as she caught up with Leon and Kael, but she still felt nervous about facing them. She was afraid to see Kael’s disappointed expression.
Her head was lowered, and she only looked up when she felt hands gripping her shoulders tightly.
Those hands felt familiar, and she immediately looked up, expecting to see Kael. But the one gripping her shoulders was Leon.
"Seraphina-"
"Y-Yes..."
"Good job. Finally, I am free from that annoying temple. They will no longer come after me because I am no longer their hero."
Leon looked genuinely happy and relieved, and Seraphina felt a jolt of annoyance and jealousy at the fact that he would never be bothered by the temple again.
She, on the other hand, would be bound to it until the day she died.
’This is so unfair. Can I also do something to get my title as the Saintess revoked? That way, I can stay with Kael forever without having to worry about the temple. I won’t have to worry about the formal training all Saintesses go through...’
Seraphina had never expected to have such a thought in her life.
There was a time in her life when she had been jealous of the temple-adopted orphans because they had someone to look after them. She had wanted to become just like them, so she had followed after Leon when the opportunity had presented itself.
But that was before she knew Kael.
And she was willing to do anything to keep her current place in his life.
__________
Kael could not figure out how things had derailed so quickly. He had not expected the Cardinal to pull such a stunt and risk damaging both his own and the temple’s reputation.
Also, he had never expected the Cardinal to try to control Seraphina.
The effects of the control magic were still lingering on her body. It was not a spell an ordinary person could have cast.
’That Cardinal either got a Holy Paladin involved or a Grand Master. Both will be a pain to find.’
There were too many eyes on Kael and Leon at the moment, so it was just not possible to find the right opportunity to evade their attention.
Since the Cardinal had planned this, he must have made arrangements to spread the news quickly. And since he had the help of another powerful individual, getting into this situation without a plan would only hurt them.
’But can I really let things remain like this? Leon’s reputation might be-’
"Kael, I have a favor to ask you. Can you do something for me?"
Leon asked, and Kael immediately nodded. It was an important time to make Leon feel better, so Kael was willing to grant him most things.
But he never expected Leon to make such a ridiculous request.
"Can you not resolve the situation? I have a feeling this situation will resolve itself if we give it some time."
Leon sounded confident, and Kael nodded slowly.
He did not know where Leon got his confidence from, but the less he had to deal with the temple, the better it would be for him.
And as for the temple’s lie...
The corruption was back, and it would not take long for people to notice. The temple would not be able to hide its existence for much longer.
’Not that it is any of my business. I already have a lot on my plate taking care of these kids. I can worry about the corruption later. For now, I need to make sure I save the world from its doom first.’
