Chapter 107: Ch 106: I’m on my own side

Two days passed with Kael acting like a bridge between the living and the corruption. He blasted away any corruption he found, and that also controlled the scale of this war, not allowing it to go beyond a certain point.

However, that soon started to cause problems between the troops on both sides.

And the humans wasted no time in calling Kael in for a meeting.

Kael accepted, not wanting to cause any unnecessary rift between himself and the humans. He still needed them to listen to him during times of crisis.

The human commander looked relieved to see him, and he immediately questioned Kael about his actions.

"Sir Kael, can you please explain why you are restricting our movements as well? We understand that you are here as a neutral party, but can you please not block our way?"

The commander asked in a desperate voice. He looked uncertain about asking even this much from Kael. But the fact that he was still asking meant that Kael had caused that much discord among the human forces.

He was sure that the demon forces were experiencing a similar situation, but they had no desire to contact him.

As for his reply...

"I am only focusing on the areas that are deeply affected by the corruption. So, it should not cause you any trouble if you stay away from those locations. It will be good for your army as well."

Kael pointed out, but the general looked even more frustrated.

"But Grand Master, it is an integral part of our strategy. We need those corruption units to force the demons to start killing each other. So just this once...please look the other way."

The general demanded, and Kael had a feeling he was running out of patience. Not that it was any of his business whether this man ran out of patience with him or not.

"I am sorry, but that won’t be possible. I am here on duty, and I need to ensure I fulfill it. I have no intention of leaving any room for others to criticize me."

Kael declared, and he saw resignation fill the general’s face.

"I see. So you have no intention of backing down. We understand. We will adjust our strategy accordingly."

Kael was finally dismissed. But he had a strange feeling that things were not over yet. The general...had given up far too quickly and easily. It reeked of a conspiracy against him.

’Should I do something? But this is war. If I make a careless mistake, then I would cause trouble for everyone.’

So there was only one option left to Kael—to sit back and wait to see what would happen.

It was in human nature to rebel, so he was sure that the general would try something soon. It would give Kael enough justification to act, and then he could take down the general and the demons.

But until then, his hands were tied.

The general watched Kael leave with a heavy expression. He was agitated, and he noticed that the others around him were just as agitated as he was.

"We cannot allow this to go on. We have to do something about it."

One of the commanders told the general, and more voices quickly rose in agreement.

The general knew that the situation needed to be handled at all costs. And luckily for him, he had a solution at hand.

Cardinal Flux had seen this coming, so he had given the general a solution that would allow him to blind the Grand Master for a few seconds. He had ideally not wanted to use such a cheap method, but he was left with no choice.

However, to make the plan possible, they would need the help of their enemy as well to create a trap.

"Don’t worry too much about it. I have a feeling that Grand Master Kael is not going to be a problem much longer. I am going to send a message out for now."

The general told his people, and they all nodded before quickly deciding to leave the situation up to him.

The letter was drafted in no time, and it was sent through a secret passage while Grand Master Kael was busy dealing with the monsters.

It reached the demon general in record time, and a plan was quickly agreed upon.

Usually, these two sides did not even look each other in the face. But when faced with Kael’s mighty strength, even they were willing to cooperate.

’Something is going on here. The movements of the soldiers have changed. Have they finally taken my advice to heart?’

There was no way in hell that would ever happen, but Kael still tried to reason that the two generals could have matured a little.

Unfortunately, his instincts were telling him that it was not the case.

’I better end this fight quickly.’

Kael began to prepare a large-scale cleansing spell. Once that was laid out, the war would have to be halted on both sides due to the automatic defence mechanism in his spell.

But the spell consumed a lot of power, and it would leave him weak for a few hours. So he had to time it exactly right in order not to fall into a trap.

He sensed the armies moving and immediately laid out the spell before they could reach their battle positions.

Kael was so focused on the spell that by the time he noticed the oddity in the armies’ movements, it was too late.

His spell worked, and a seal was placed over the corrupted areas. It would consume the corruption and bring it under control, and Kael felt lethargic.

That was why he was caught in the trap the two armies had laid together.

’Darn it! Both of them were in on it? Then the attack earlier...was it a decoy to distract me?’

It made sense, and Kael felt annoyed that his presence as a threat had made two bitter enemies cooperate with each other.

However, it was time to stop playing around. He needed to break this barrier and head back to the kids...

But there was a problem.

He could not access his magic.

’Darn it! An anti-magic field? When did they have time to construct something that advanced? If both sides had this magic, then they should have used it...unless...’

This magic was too perfectly tailored to stop his own magic. It was not a coincidence that he got caught here.

"Fucking hell! Did I fall into a trap? This is not good. The kids...I need to inform them not to panic-"

"Grand Master Kael, we are sorry. But we are doing this for the sake of humanity. May your rest be peaceful. We will make sure you go down as a martyr in the history books."

The human general promised before he signaled for the cannons to be fired at Kael.
