Chapter 102: Ch 101: Council Head Kristain Han

[Dear Grand Master Kael,

How have you been doing? I heard about the recent cases of corruption that you encountered, and I would like to offer my advice as your teacher—make sure to keep your distance from that cursed thing.

But knowing you, you will somehow find your way into trouble, so I won’t waste my breath on it.

Instead, I would like to ask you for a favor.

There is going to be a meeting between the Council, the Temple representatives of this empire, and the Tower. It will be headed by Emperor Karton. I would like you to attend it in my stead. Since you have encountered corruption recently, I feel like you would be the right person for this job.

Those words did not surprise Kael, nor did the fact that he had gotten this letter from his teacher.

He already knew that the old man had taken him in as a student because he was resourceful and could become an errand boy one day for the older Grand Master.

Kael wanted to decline this offer, but he did not feel like he was in a position to do such a thing. Mainly because of what was happening.

’A war between demons and humans? Is it happening already? I swear it was supposed to take place two years later...’

Or maybe that was the time the ’hero’ joined the war, and that was why Kael recalled it.

Honestly, even Kael was beginning to feel shocked by how detached he had been in his past life.

Not being interested in people was one thing, but being unaware of major events as well? That felt like another level of being ’unaware.’

"Maybe it was a mental disorder that got fixed once I got reborn or something. Anyway, there is no point in thinking about my past life. Let’s focus on the current events."

Kael’s current interest was the war that had broken out and what he was going to do about it.

He also had a feeling that both the Temple and the Council would try something to get rid of him using this opportunity.

But he was not going to allow it. This time...he would put an end to it with his own hands if he had to. But he wouldn’t allow his people to get sucked into it.

Now it was time for the meeting, and this time, Kael was going to head there alone. And there was a reason behind it.

He was sure that those people would try to push for the hero’s deployment, just as they had during his past life. But the hero was too young.

And as such...Kael would be forced to take responsibility for him and accompany him.

But Kael had no intention of telling Leon to throw his life away. Instead, he was going to do something no one would see coming.

He was going to volunteer himself for this war alone.

That would be enough to keep people from gossiping and also give their side enough of an advantage to finish this war early.

’I am sure those demons are not foolish enough to think that they can fight a Grand Master without their queen. The ’demon generals’ won’t move without the queen’s orders...and since Lyra is still alive, a new ruler cannot be crowned.’

It would be the demons’ loss, and Kael would gain much more authority than anyone could even imagine as a war hero.

The only problem? He was sure his opponents would try to do something drastic. But he would be ready for them.

A war had unofficially started between the Temple and the demons. The attacks that had been sporadic and mild before turned into a full-fledged war between demons and humans.

Even those who were not involved were not spared. Small villages on the borders were plundered, and not even corpses were left behind on either side.

Obviously, it did not take long for this to reach the ears of Emperor Karton. He was the emperor of Kalos, one of the three biggest empires in the world.

And he was the only one who bordered the demons and acted as a shield between them and the other empires.

So it was natural that he would call for a meeting.

The Temple, the Magic Tower, as well as the Council were called immediately, and representatives from all three gathered.

Cardinal Flux came from the Temple’s side, and Council Head Kristain Han chose to attend the meeting himself.

As for the Magic Tower...that responsibility got thrown at Kael because he was the hero’s teacher. But in reality, it was the Tower’s way of telling him that no one else had time for this nonsense.

"Ehm, I am sure you are all aware of why we are here today?"

The secretary coughed to get everyone’s attention before he presented the agenda he had gathered everyone here for—the war.

Everyone looked to be on edge except the representatives.

Kael tried his best not to yawn and show that he was bored out of his mind. That would not do well for his already ruined reputation.

"The Temple has kept a sharp eye on the movements of the demons and what they are planning. We can safely say that the war has started. It is time to eradicate those demons once and for all."

Cardinal Flux reinforced what everyone already knew, and people instantly began to gossip about this topic.

There was a lot of chatter, and the secretary immediately smacked his cane on the ground to gather everyone’s attention.

"Thank you for your information, Cardinal. We will keep it in mind going forward. Council Head Kristain Han, would you like to add anything?"

Kael looked toward the young-looking Council Head. The man was over a thousand years old at this point...or so it was said about him. But he did not look a day over his twenties. It was all said to be due to the magic this man used.

But whatever magic he was using, Kael could not find any traces of it on this man.

’Either he’s too good at using magic, or he is using some other trick to maintain his youth. Whatever it is, I don’t feel comfortable thinking about it.’

Council Head Kristain Han was a problem and one that Kael wanted to avoid. But for now, he was an opponent Kael needed to use.
