Chapter 245: Heretic / 1.6 : His first real friend
Kian stayed silent for the rest of the feast. He listened to his uncle trying incredibly hard to bond with Magnus. When he was tired of listening to him suck up, he stood up and walked through the garden.
He looked around the beautiful garden, how rich are those vampires, seriously? When he thinks about his life, and how even if he worked every day until he died, he would never earn ten percent of what they have he feels how malignant the universe is.
All the money he earned went to the hospital, and Kian even had to move out of the house and rent a small apartment. He swallowed, the only thing that makes going through this ordeal worth it is that he’ll have Versem when he goes back, and he won’t struggle another day of his life.
But most importantly, he’ll be able to save his mother. He knows that he should let her rest, but he’s not ready. When the doctors told them that he should unplug her, she had lost her brainwaves, but he couldn’t.
Once he goes back, he’ll go a few days before that and make sure to save her. He knows what his mother would want, but he can’t do it. She said that the thing she feared most was being stuck in her body.
He’s being selfish, but he can’t lose her. She’s the person he cares most about, if he loses her, he’ll have nothing. Even if Leah was his best friend, they would barely see each other because he always worked.
Even if their relationship changed, he knows that she loved him and once he goes back and improves his life she’ll accept him. She’ll stop dating Dain, just because he is the president of a company doesn’t mean he is better than him.
With Versem he’ll make a lot of money and show her that he’s better than him. Leah is the only person who’s ever been nice to him, he knows he’ll never meet someone as sweet and caring.
He already believed that most people were mean, but transmigrating to the multiverse made him realize that they’re not only mean, but they are also evil.
"Are you okay?"
Kian looked at Lucian and nodded. Lucian took off his jacket and put it on his shoulders. Kian blinked then looked away, with his face flushed. Lucian said:
"If you’re tired, you don’t have to stay, everyone will understand."
Kian looked at Lucian and cocked his head. Lucian felt as though he was trying to see in his mind. He smiled.
"If you have questions, you can ask me."
Kian turned his head and asked:
"Why are you being so nice?"
Nothing about Lucian matched the information he received. They would even say he never smiles, but he always looks amused when he looks at him.
Unless he believes he is funny? He hasn’t said anything funny though, if anything he’s been a jerk to him. Every time he looks at someone else his eyes are cold, even Serena and that’s his fiancé.
Lucian said:
"Because I like you."
Kian looked at him confused, it was as though he couldn’t understand why he would like him.
Lucian caressed his head and said:
"I like that I can see your feelings in your face, you’re honest, unlike most people."
Kian frowned at that. He wants to avoid being like that anymore, but he wasn’t until he saw Lucian.
Being nice and honest gets you nothing but people walking all over him. He wants to be cold and ruthless like Lucian, Atlas, and Eden.
"Don’t you mean naive?"
Lucian stopped him and met his eyes. When he put his hands on his shoulders, he felt that Lucian was too close. His cheeks flushed.
Lucian said:
"I don’t, what I mean is that most people are scheming and traitorous, and you’re none of those things. Why do you think the whole world loves you?"
Kian murmured:
"You don’t know me enough to say that, maybe I’m worse than those people because I look naive."
Atlas told him that that’s how he was able to destroy everyone after him and Eden too. But he’d like for people to be intimidated by him, like they are of Lucian.
"I want people to fear me as they do you."
Lucian said:
"People do something better than fear you, they respect you. Trust me, you just believe that it’s what you want even if it isn’t."
Kian looked into his green eyes, maybe he shouldn’t throw his weight around and do as Atlas said.
He’ll act as if he is blind and destroy his enemies. Kian asked:
"Does that mean you don’t want people to fear you?"
"No, I just don’t want you to fear me."
Kian looked at him confused again, then he thought and asked:
"Because we’re friends?"
Lucian nodded with a smile.
Kian smiled, and his heartbeat quickened in excitement. Seems like he was right, Lucian just wanted them to be friends. Why wasn’t it so easy to make friends in his universe? Most people thought him uninteresting.
Even if he considers Atlas and Eden friends, they didn’t choose to become his friend. The three of them just ended up in the same mess as him. But Lucian wants to be friends with him, so he considers him his first real friend.
Kian turned around to walk back with Lucian. The two walked in comfortable silence. Serena looked at them entering the room in anger. Her eyes darkened when she noticed Lucian’s jacket on Kian’s shoulders.
She covered her anger and walked to Kian.
"Cousin, it’s been a long day, you should get some rest."
"I know."
Lucian said:
"Come on, I’ll walk you to your chambers."
Kian nodded with a smile.
Serena held Lucian’s wrist and asked:
"Will you show me too, I’m tired."
Lucian looked at her hand and then at her with cold eyes. She immediately pulled her hand away and swallowed.
Kian’s eyes flashed in amusement. Lucian looked at a butler and ordered:
"Lead her to her chambers."
As soon as he said that, he left with Kian. They entered the elevator, and it rode to the third floor.
They exited and Lucian led him to his chambers. He entered with him and after showing him around, Lucian led him to the kitchen.
He opened the fridge and Kian looked at the bottles of Sanguin with a smile. Lucian said:
"I told the maids to put some in the fridge."
"Thank you."
Lucian smiled, he feels that his uncle and cousin are too controlling. Kian is an adult, and he can do what he wants. Kian walked Lucian to the door. Lucian said:
"Good night."
"Good night."
Lucian left and Kian closed the door. Before he could close it Lucian turned around and entered his bedroom again and closed the door behind him. He stood there looking at Kian.
Kian looked at them confused, then asked:
"Did you forget something?"
Lucian took a step forward and said:
"I did."
Kian froze in shock when Lucian leaned in and kissed him.
