Chapter 634: S tier Soul Orb

An S tier dead. One threat removed.

And yet, Mira was still nowhere to be found.

Alex expanded his spatial perception once more, forcing it across the battered reaches of the Bugonia System. The chaos of war unfolded inside his mind in cold detail: burning warships, scattered corpses, shattered planets.

Nothing, still no sign of her.

’13 S tiers still in this system, 12 excluding Althea. It seems the others weren’t all standing around while I was dealing with that Lux.’

In the time Alex teleported over and questioned Kargon, Althea had taken care of her target, whom she believed at first to be the strongest S tier in the entire Bugonia System. But Alex wasn’t stupid. The first moment he scanned the system with his spatial perception, he’d already detected the life signature of an extremely powerful Awakened, one that might even be able to rival Farnes in combat strength.

’A King class S tier...’

There was zero chance that Althea could face off against being at that level – so he instead sent her to the nearest S tier to their position at the time. With her Variant Class combat strength, the only ones who could force her into a corner in the entire system were just Alex and that King class.

’I’m not strong enough to deal with a King class S tier just yet. Looks like I might need the help of Brontes for this one.’

Despite his powers being unsealed and completely separated from the System, Alex still had yet to catch up in rank with the other powerhouses of the universe. Still a lowly B tier, just barely classifying as a higher lifeform, he had a long way to go.

The best he could manage at the moment was people on Kargan’s and Althea’s level, Variant Class S tiers of average strength. His strength placed him somewhere above Variant Class S tiers, but still below King class.

This most likely put him on par with some of the most talented and protected Awakened in the entire universe. The number of Awakened that could face off against S tiers while only being at B tier could probably be counted on one’s fingers.

’Though this won’t be the case for much longer.’

He glanced down at the Soul Orb that had dropped from Kargan when he killed him. The energy contained within a Variant Class S tier Soul Orb was more than every Soul Orb and Soul Core he had absorbed so far in his entire journey as an Awakened!

It was time for him to finally become an A tier Awakened.

Alex didn’t delay in absorbing Kargan’s Soul Orb, feeling the immense energy surge into him the moment his fingers closed around it.

For a fraction of a second, the battlefield around him seemed to fall away.

Then the power hit his Soul Core.

It wasn’t like those times he absorbed the Soul Orbs of weaker beings. Those felt like mere streams surging into the ocean that was his Soul Core. This time it was the exact opposite. He felt like he was trying to force an ocean into a lake.

A violent torrent of energy tore into him from every direction, flooding his body, soul, and mind with such terrifying intensity that even Alex’s expression shifted to combat the intense pain for the first time in a while.

Veins of light spread across his skin, and the surrounding space distorted as his aura leaked out uncontrollably, crushing drifting wreckage and sending nearby debris spiralling away from him.

The Soul Orb finally melted away in his hand, dissolving away into countless threads of luminous essence as its last reserves were greedily devoured by his Soul Core.

Inside himself, Alex felt it clearly.

His B rank Soul Core, which had remained dormant at 87% for too long, quickly surged to B+ rank.

But it didn’t end there.

If he had his Status open right now, he’d be able to see the percentage next to his rank still rapidly rising as the seconds ticked by.

97%...

98%...

99%...

A flicker of Mikhail’s system text formed before his eyes; the information of his advancement came much simpler now that the System had been locked out.

Until finally, it reached 100%.

[Soul Core advanced to A- rank.]

The moment that final line appeared, the pressure inside Alex’s body dissipated as if it were never there.

Everything became still, terrifyingly so. As if the universe itself had to take a pause out of respect for his advancement.

Then an explosion of invisible force burst out from Alex’s body, sweeping across the vacuum of space in every direction. Everything that wasn’t already destroyed, became cosmic dust.

Farther out across the Bugonia Star System, countless beings warring against each other looked in the direction of Alex’s burst of energy full of shock, fear, and a magnitude of other emotions packed within.

’Hmm?’

One gaze in particular pierced through the gap in space, glancing at Alex’s now naked body floating in the void with interest.

’Another King class?’

Alex slowly opened his eyes. The whites of his eyes were no longer there, replaced by an infinite blackness that reflected the stars in them with unnatural clarity. As if those stars weren’t mere reflections of the outside universe...

However, the unusual blackness soon receded, giving way for his eyes to return to normal in the next moment.

He inhaled, despite floating in the vacuum of space. What he breathed in wasn’t a pocket of air that miraculously happened to be floating around him, but energy.

His body felt so full of energy. Enough to cause a mini supernova of his own if he really wanted to.

At last.’ He thought, glancing down at his own hand.

It looked the same, felt the same. But beneath that layer of skin, everything had changed.

’A tier.’

Alex glanced off into the distance in the next instant, feeling a heavy gaze watching his every move.

’It’s been a while since I let Brontes out for a walk.’

Space bent around him, and his body vanished from the ruined battlefield where Kargan once stood. A moment later, he appeared above a different warfront. A short distance away, two fleets of ships were engaged in a battle that ought to be put in the history books.

But Alex wasn’t focused on that.

His eyes were glued to the singular being floating above all, looking down on the entire Bugonia System like some sort of god.
