Chapter 633: Answer me and you might live

"What!?"

Kargan felt his worldview shatter as he watched the incoming Human approach him at speeds he would have to become serious to match.

Why was this B rank Human so strong? What was he doing wrong that this human had clearly figured out?

"Who told you about this system?"

On the other side, Alex questioned the tall Lux opposite him, cracking his fists after his strike was dodged.

The only downside he felt from meeting Mikhail was losing Virtue’s Edge, or rather System Breaker. Without it, he felt almost naked when in combat.

"Scum like you have no right to question me!"

Kargan answered with a sneer.

He was struggling to control his rushing emotions in his chaotic state. His face must have given that away, because Alex responded only with another fist, this time balled with a terrifying fire enveloping it with its aura.

Kargan felt the aura emanating off those intimidating fists and felt nothing but pure fear. For someone who had spent thousands of years lording above others both inside and outside the Primordial Expanse, this was a feeling he only ever felt a small few times.

He could count the number of experiences like this on one hand, and he was lucky to survive each one of them.

Just that one moment of basking in the aura given off by Alex’s Phoenix flames was enough to make him want to escape.

But Alex wasn’t going to let him go that easily.

"Answer my questions and I might consider letting you live."

That same lifeless voice echoed from behind Kargan, dragging him back out of his deluded state into reality.

"How can you guarantee you won’t kill me even if I tell you everything you want to know?"

Kargan took to rationality, the desire to live winning over his pride. He forced himself to stay still, but maintained a cautious stance towards the terrifying human.

"There is no guarantee. You either talk or die. No in between."

Alex’s answer was short and snappy.

"Okay... okay."

Kargon looked deflated.

"What made you come to this Star System?"

Alex looked up and down at the imposing Lux. In the backdrop of space, he looked like an ancient god descending on the mortal realm.

But right now, he was nothing more than Alex’s prisoner.

"One of you humans provided us with intel that your Human Federation had moved in and were easy pickings. Clearly it was a trap, because all the other races in contention for Andromeda showed up all at the same time as us."

Now this was news to Alex. He and Althea only just arrived so they knew nothing about what started this whole debacle. But hearing straight from the enemy’s lips that even they didn’t know what was going on intrigued him.

If only he wasn’t urgently looking for Mira, he might have stuck around to find out more about what was going on.

"Did the human who sold you this information look like this?"

Alex showed him a picture of Donald.

"Yes, that’s him."

Well, that answered that pressing question.

’It seems I have to take another slight detour to deal with Donald before departing for the Central Galaxies.’

The fact that Donald had not only dragged him and Mira into one trap, but done it twice now, was enough for him to go out of his way for revenge.

The longer someone like this was around, the messier his life and future plans might become. For all he knew Donald could become an even bigger obstacle in the future that could be detrimental to much more important plans.

’It’s best to nip it in the bud now before it gets too late.’

That would come after bringing Mira to safety.

Alex rubbed one hand and rubbed his face.

"Does her face ring any bells in your mind?"

This time, Alex pulled up the most recent picture of Mira he had on his communicator and showed it to Kargan.

Kargan was confused that the only questions Alex asked so far were just about two different humans, but he wasn’t going to complain. They were the easiest questions to answer.

"Not one bit."

"Okay, that’s all I need to hear from you then."

Alex raised his fist at that, transforming the vibrant red flames into their invisible counterpart.

"Wait! You said you’d let me live if I answered your questions!"

Kargan grew even more desperate, especially after feeling the embers of those new kinds of flames brushing against his skin. They felt even more dangerous and life threatening than the previous red ones.

Alex didn’t care for the opinion of the Lux. The way he saw it, the universe was better off without a race like the Lux. Taking out one of their strongest combatants was sure to deal them a lethal blow and send their mental states into a nosedive.

It wasn’t like the Federation was openly hostile to every single race they encountered, like the Lux were. Despite how the System had essentially cultivated a state of constant war between every race in the universe in the endless search for power, there were still pacifists about who were more open to trade deals rather than constantly waging wars against each other.

Many of the Federation’s higher ups were such people, willing to trade with some of the races who made contact with them and didn’t show hostility on first contact.

But those usually only festered when there weren’t major conflicts of interest. In the race for Andromeda, there was no such room for agreements.

Only the strongest fist would topple all of the other players and claim the resulting galaxy for themselves.

’Onto the next target.’

Alex didn’t care whether Kargan lied about recognising Mira or not. Whether she appeared in this location or elsewhere in the Bugonia System, all he cared about was that she was in a safe position once she returned.

Despite his ability to instantly teleport across vast distances, an S tier powerhouse would still be able to get to her and kill her before Alex could arrive on scene.

Though he did want to find out who targetted her in the first place, and the reasons why. But those came second to assuring her safety.

’I’ll raze this entire galaxy to the ground if anything happens to her!’
