Chapter 92: The End had Arrived
The river of time moved, unbothered by the trivialities of life...
Bit by bit, Amon began spending more time with his wife and daughter.
The couple went on quiet dates, visited places, and deepened their relationship drastically.
It could be considered one of the sweetest periods of their marriage.
When Amon had broken the news that he had quit his job, she was worried. However, after he reassured her countless times, she decided to trust his judgment.
And that could be considered one of the best choices she had ever made.
As time kept passing, and Amon continued spending time with his family, his heart only grew eerily calm.
It was like a lake without a single ripple.
In the blink of an eye, eighteen days had passed.
And there was only one week until the crisis, according to the mirror.
On this particular day, Amon sensed something strange that drew his attention to the skies.
Across the heavens, red spiderweb cracks akin to jagged lightning began appearing throughout the world.
Some called it the calamity. Others feared whatever prospects this phenomenon brought.
Unlike what people expected, the cracks didn’t vanish after lingering for an hour in the skies. Instead, they spread outward even more, as though hoping to submerge the entire world in their deathly presence.
The warm red glow from the cracks cast an eerie chill over the entire world.
’It’s beginning...’
Glancing up at the skies through the window of his house, Amon noticed the phenomenon and thought to himself.
His heart was still as calm as ever as he watched the sight.
After eighteen days, his strength had remained stagnant. However, his fate points had been steadily increasing.
Over the past eighteen days, he had accumulated fifty-seven fate points.
It couldn’t be considered much. However, after acquiring twenty-one more over the remaining seven days, Amon felt it should be sufficient to survive the coming crisis.
"The skies seem... different from normal?"
Walking out of the kitchen was the beautiful Kayla.
Her hair was tied into a neat bun, and an apron wrapped around her waist, outlining her perfect curves, a sign that she had been preparing their dinner.
Noticing the red skies, she felt vaguely unsettled, so she came to see what her husband thought of the current development.
As always, Amon simply gave her a calm smile that reassured her.
"I’m sure it’s nothing. It’s likely just a strange phenomenon..."
Kayla eyed Amon suspiciously.
Something in his tone sounded off.
Unable to tell exactly what it was, she turned back toward the kitchen.
"I’ll be done preparing dinner in a bit, give me some time..."
"Alright..."
Amon nodded and picked up the remote.
The media had already begun reporting the situation to the higher-ups.
On the screen appeared a respected gentleman wearing glasses.
His tone was calm, but one could sense the urgency hidden beneath it as he spoke.
{Reports have shown that this phenomenon isn’t just happening in Metropolis District, but is currently occurring all over the world... Everyone is advised to return home to their loved ones in case anything happens...}
{SSS-rank experts in Europe investigate the mysterious phenomenon of the cracked red skies and are unable to arrive at a conclusion on the matter. However, many are led to believe that this is likely the birth of a dungeon above SSS-rank...}
{We can only pray that isn’t the case... If not... humanity as we know it may face devastating consequences...}
Amon watched the news with rapt attention.
Soon, Kayla served dinner for both of them and joined him in watching the broadcast.
On the screen, the young man continued his speculations. A few news reporters joined him along the way, sharing the information they had gathered and keeping the public up to date with the happenings all over the world.
The meal between the two continued in silence.
Subconsciously, there was a faint tension in the air.
The red light from the cracked skies poured into the warm home through the window, bathing it in an eerie, bloody hue and heightening the tension that lingered within.
Kayla didn’t know why, but she felt vaguely uncomfortable.
"Love?" she called out to Amon...
"Yes?"
"Can you close the windows? I’ll turn on the AC."
"Alright..."
Amon nodded, set his plate on the table, and headed over to close the windows.
Kayla felt the discomfort ease considerably, and she could finally eat in peace.
...
Over the next few days, the situation only worsened.
On the second day, the cracks spread densely throughout the whole world, and the skies turned completely red.
Only through clocks were people able to tell the time because the concept of day and night had been lost completely.
On the third day, the two SSS-rank hunters who could fly took to the skies. However, they encountered nothing, returning with quiet regret.
On the fourth day, a vague killing intent began seeping down from the skies.
Everyone gradually slipped into a state of panic.
Many could instinctively tell that something was definitely wrong.
Perhaps a new wave of monsters was about to enter the world?
Records of how dungeons had first arrived in the world began to resurface.
Although the phenomenon back then had been quite similar, it wasn’t this intense.
After it continued into the fifth day, a few students dropped out of college.
At this moment, the killing intent had become dense enough that it was beginning to affect all the monsters in lower-ranked dungeons below B-rank.
Cold Moon District now seemed vaguely abandoned.
There were no dungeons present, so they didn’t have to deal with any monsters.
However, the eerie chill beneath the red skies caused everyone to hesitate before going out.
It was as though the end of the world had arrived.
While all this happened, Amon remained in his apartment with his wife, and the two enjoyed their time together.
The sixth day finally came.
And so did the seventh day.
"I’ll be stepping out for a bit..." Amon said calmly to Kayla as he stood up after their meal. "I need to check out a few things..."
Kayla glanced at the clock hanging on the wall and frowned slightly.
"The time’s 12:00 midnight. Are you sure you want to go out?"
Amon nodded with a smile.
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll be back before you know it."
Amon placed a warm kiss on her head and stepped out.
As soon as he left the apartment, he glanced up at the skies.
The seventh day had passed.
A month was over.
The calamity finally begins.
Amon looked up at the skies, then called up his system.
Fate points: 81
’It’s time...’
Amon muttered to himself and began his upgrade.
This moment would decide everything.
Just then, a faint smile appeared at the corner of Amon’s mouth.
[Congratulations! Your daughter has reached E-rank and the system will begin its upgrade.]
[You have received 50 fate points!]
