Chapter 102: The System Upgrades
Little Amon glanced at the slightly golden screen in front of him and was so stunned that he staggered backward, bumping into the table.
"What’s this?"
He waved his hand slightly through the air, confused by the screen before him.
However, no matter how much he waved, it didn’t disappear.
Collete, curious about Amon’s actions, turned to him and stared for a few seconds before quickly becoming disinterested.
She returned her gaze to the world outside.
At first, Amon panicked, but within seconds he calmed himself.
There was no need to behave like a kid.
After all, he wasn’t a kid.
’Wait... not a kid?’
Amon’s contradictory thoughts only left him more confused.
Shaking his head, he read what the screen displayed.
[Ding! System Upgrade Complete. Please Check out its New Features.]
’How do I check out its new features? Do I just give the order? Or do I naviga...’
Amon’s thoughts trailed off as he noticed the screen had expanded, displaying a new line of words.

...
Amon was a little confused as he stared at the screen.
’Why does the information seem grayed out?’
A little taken aback, he was amazed by the dazzling array of items he possessed.
He had no idea what exactly the information before him meant, but he could tell it was a good thing.
Suddenly, the screen vanished and displayed a new line of words.
[After being shattered by an ’existence’, you were timely saved by the Time Witch, who sacrificed your life after sensing the abnormality. However, your soul is in a shattered state. Find fragments of your soul and restore your main body. And save your wife and daughter before it’s too late.]
The message seemed ominous, and as Amon read it, he couldn’t help but change expression.
However, when he reached the last part, the feeling of discomfort he felt became overwhelming.
’I have a wife and daughter?’
Amon was stunned by the thought.
He glanced down at his little hands and legs and thought the screen might have given him the wrong information.
[Master, please access the system space to view the truth of the matter.]
Another line of words appeared in Amon’s line of sight, almost as though the system could sense his disbelief.
’How do I access the system space?’
Amon was a little confused, as he had no way of navigating through the status screen.
Suddenly, he felt his perception twist violently, and the next instant, he realized he had appeared before a vast expanse of space.
Amon glanced around in a daze, taking in the astonishing sight.
It felt strangely familiar.
The surrounding space stretched as far as the eye could see.
Inside it, he saw all sorts of treasures gathered into a mountain.
Amon didn’t know these were treasures, but from the overwhelming presences they exuded, he could tell they were undoubtedly extraordinary.
’So many of them...’
Amon exclaimed inwardly.
Suddenly, something caught his eye...
He could see a... human?
Stunned, he began walking in that direction one step at a time.
Beneath his feet was a dark void, yet it felt like solid ground.
After a few steps forward, Amon noticed the figure sprawled on the ground, unconscious.
The figure wore a peaceful expression.
And a sword that emitted a frosty chill rested across his chest, as though accompanying him in slumber.
"How can there be someone here?"
Amon stared at the body in silence.
The man had long black hair and could be considered the most handsome person he had ever seen.
Suddenly, he thought back to the system’s words and froze.
’Wait... is that... me?’
’Fragments of my soul...’
’Restore my true self...’
’And protect my wife and daughter before it’s too late...’
The words from the system echoed continuously in his mind like a warning bell.
Amon gasped and subconsciously took a step back, feeling overwhelmed.
He thought in silence for a few seconds.
Things were finally starting to add up, little by little.
It was no wonder he couldn’t recall anything.
’But this all feels too unreal...’
Amon still didn’t completely believe the words of a mysterious screen.
Swoosh!
His perception shifted once more, and he returned to the real world.
"Kid?!"
A worried voice entered his ears the moment he regained himself.
He glanced ahead and noticed Cassie staring at him with a worried expression.
As soon as Cassie noticed his blank look replaced by something warmer, she heaved a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness, I thought something might have happened to you. I kept calling you for a few minutes, but you weren’t responding."
Collete was also staring at Amon with a look of intrigue in her eyes.
Cassie ruffled his hair and said, "I just finished preparing dinner. Eat and rest up for tonight... it’s going to be a long night."
There was an edge to her tone that made Amon feel something was off, but he nodded anyway.
Cassie pointed to the table where two bowls of steaming hot noodles sat waiting.
Amon contemplated for some time and hesitated over whether to eat or not.
He couldn’t just eat food that a stranger had handed him.
However, his stomach rumbled in protest.
Cassie ruffled his hair again, then walked over to the table and took a spoonful herself.
"There’s nothing to be worried about. Eat and get some rest."
With that said, Amon walked to the table and began eating as well.
Cassie chuckled at the sight, then turned to her own daughter and was taken aback.
Collete stared at Amon eating quietly, and there was a faint light in her eyes.
It was a strange light, one she hadn’t seen in her daughter for over two years now...
Noticing her mother’s gaze on her, Collete’s expression shifted subtly and became as bored as always.
However, Cassie knew that what she’d just seen was unmistakable.
A surge of warmth filled her chest.
"Uh... I’ll leave you two for a bit. Collete, ensure you eat as well and shut the windows before nightfall."
"Okay," Collete said simply, but didn’t make any move to go and eat.
Cassie didn’t push her.
Her daughter had always done things on her own terms.
Wanting to give the two some more space after discovering that her daughter was gradually opening up, she left, closing the door behind her.
Gradually, time passed.
Before long, night had arrived.
Amon had long since finished his meal.
He lay on the bed staring at the ceiling as the steady slurping sounds of someone finishing their meal drifted into his ears.
"Have you heard of the Nightcrawlers?" Collete suddenly spoke up as soon as she was done eating.
Suddenly, she seemed to realize what she’d said and quickly corrected herself.
"I forgot you don’t remember anything, sorry."
