Chapter 125: Surprise and Desperation
On the other side of the forest, atop a huge mountain peak. A beautiful woman stood at the edge.
She had flowing purple hair and a near-perfect face to match. One moment, she was standing with her eyes closed.
But suddenly, she snapped her eyes open. Genuine surprise shone in those dark blue eyes.
"My mark... it was destroyed."
She muttered with a frown on her face, closing her eyes as she tried to focus. But unfortunately, no matter how she used her powers or her senses, she couldn’t find the aura that broke that.
That meant...
"It was destroyed from the inside, and he isn’t powerful enough to do that."
Zhaltharia spoke; her voice sounded heavy. Her eyes shifted lightly as she remembered the man.
"That man... even broke out of my illusion in a matter of days, and now, my mark on him is destroyed. Just how... did he do that?"
Zhaltharia muttered, her cold eyes shone, desperate for answers. But to her surprise, even her eyes failed her this time.
But instead of frustration, a small smile stretched out on her otherwise cold face.
"Hehe~ You better be careful, Emperal, now even I’m getting curious to know what’s inside you."
Zhaltharia muttered, her face twisting violently for a moment, before returning to normal.
She turned around and snapped her finger, a shadow materialized before her... kneeling.
"It seems he is close to reaching the core region even before us... track that bloodthirsty elf down for me."
She muttered, earning a nod from the kneeling shadow. Without wasting a single second, it vanished.
...
About a few hundred miles from the location of Zhaltharia, in an empty plain between the huge trees.
A woman could be seen fighting. She had long, flowing golden hair. Her eyes were shining intensely as she looked at the huge snake in front of her.
Its aura was no less than that of Stage Three Verth Seeker; its poison was enough to melt even the peak Stage Verth Seekers!
The snake reared its head back, its coils shone with an eerie green sheen. It was, of course, its venom that was seeping out, even from the gaps of its scales. Wherever it dripped, or whatever it touched, resulted in the instant dissolution of the object.
Servaeth didn’t move, her eyes locked with the snake’s. Outwardly, she was fighting the snake, but inside?
"W-Where is he? For months, I searched for him, but I still couldn’t find him!" She ground her teeth as her insides felt twisted. A few veins popped on her neck as her fists began to glow.
The snake lunged and hissed violently at her, its head shot forward at a speed that should have definitely outsped most of Stage Three Verth Shapers.
Seraveth’s hands shot forward, and her hands connected with its long fangs!
The ground beneath them cracked as neither of the forces could overpower the other. The snake tried its best to clamp down on Seraveth, but she was as staunch as a stone. She didn’t move in the slightest.
"Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he? Where is he?"
Like a broken tape, she continued to mutter absentmindedly. Something inside her was clawing directly at her soul. There was this fire and a sort of intense thirst that could only be put off if her eyes were graced with his presence.
The more her muttering grew, the fiercer her aura became. After a few seconds, thick golden draconic scales began to appear on her forearms as she slowly pushed the snake back.
The ground cracked with each of her steps as the snake looked down in shock. The golden scales slowly began spreading from her forearms to her shoulders. Her grip on its fang tightened.
CRACK~!
A small crack ripped through its fangs as the snake’s eyes widened in panic.
"Where is he?"
She said again, a bit quieter this time. "Where. Is. He?"
The snake hissed and twisted its massive body, trying to use its overwhelming weight to break her stance. But it barely moved an inch. Seraveth’s pupils shrank slightly and morphed into draconic vertical irises.
Her mind repeatedly began playing the sight of his dark eyes, the way he looked at her like she was some trash, the indifference, and the... silent hatred. The thought made her chest clench so violently that she nearly forgot she was fighting a beast.
Looking at the beast hissing, Seraveth’s vertical eyes narrowed. The veins on her arms pulsed as she violently yanked one of the fangs out of the snake’s mouth.
HISSSSS~!!!
The snake hissed in pain, but that didn’t deter Seraveth. The fist on her free hand clenched. Stretching her hand, she punched forward!
CRACK~!!
THUD~
But it was released from her grip. The snake ignored the pain and took advantage of this opening.
Which proved to be a mistake. Seraveth leapt high, her center of gravity shifted as she veered towards the snake below. It was fast without saying. The snake didn’t even have the time to react as its head burst apart like a watermelon.
Thud~!
Seraveth landed on the ground, her entire body covered in the dead snake’s blood. Looking down at her own hands, thousands and thousands of thoughts rammed in at once.
"I need to find him, I need to know him, I need him to look at me."
Her jaw tightened. Just as she was going further down the spiral, a voice echoed across the ground.
"Lady Seraveth! We have located the man called Emperal. He is heading towards the core region."
Seraveth snapped her head back, her vertical draconic eyes shone intensely the moment she heard the servant woman’s words.
She vanished from her spot and appeared directly in front of the servant, who was profoundly shocked by such a change in Seraveth.
Seraveth’s hand shot out and gripped the woman’s neck.
"L-Lady Seraveth!?" The woman’s eyes widened in horror as she felt the grip tighten around her neck.
"What did you say? You found... Emperal?"
