Chapter 349: Jirachi (Two-in-One)
Our Time God Dialga had finally arrived.
Rio smiled as he watched Dialga approach. He was about to suggest that Dialga be wise and surrender to avoid a beating — but Giratina, as if reading his mind, suddenly spoke in his head:
"Don’t capture Dialga yet — let me beat it up first to vent! I’m still furious, and I need to take it out on something. I have to grab it and give it a good thrashing to get this anger out."
Its tone was full of rage — it clearly needed to release it.
"Alright, go ahead. Beat it up, then I’ll speak." Rio agreed, pulling out an Energy Root. "Take this medicine to heal up first."
But Giratina refused. "Beat Dialga? That pathetic thing? I don’t need medicine for that! If I took medicine, I wouldn’t be the Reverse World God! Even in this state, I could crush it with one hand tied behind my back!" Giratina scoffed.
With that, it charged at Dialga. Right behind it came Palkia.
I want to fight too! I, the Space God, also need to beat up Dialga! That was Palkia’s thought.
Behind Palkia came Charizard and Mewtwo. Their thought was: Palkia and Giratina got beaten — it’s only fair Dialga gets some too! We don’t play favorites! GET HIM!
And so, just as Dialga arrived at the forest outside Eterna City, four region-guardian-level Pokémon charged at it, led by Giratina. Dialga was terrified and tried to flee — but Gengar was right behind it, and with five Pokémon surrounding it, there was no escape.
And so, Dialga’s miserable ordeal began.
"Giratina!!!" — Brothers, don’t use your big moves — don’t knock it out too quickly!
Giratina kindly reminded the others, then formed a Shadow Ball.
"Roooar~" — Got it!
Charizard gathered Flamethrower.
"No problem." Mewtwo gathered Aura Sphere.
"Palkia~" — Anyone who uses a big move gets kicked out of this team!
Palkia also formed an Aura Sphere.
"Gengar~" — New brothers! Count me in!
Gengar formed a Shadow Ball too.
And so, five Pokémon attacked together.
"They don’t seem like legendary Pokémon — more like a gang of thugs." Shaymin’s voice echoed in Rio’s mind.
"I think so too." Rio laughed, looking up at Dialga with genuine sympathy. Because it had arrived late, it would have no one to take its anger out on.
Meanwhile, inside Eterna City, countless people stared at the distant sky, dumbfounded. Dialga was being ganged up on by five other Pokémon. What had it done to deserve such treatment?
Twenty minutes later, a badly beaten Dialga crashed to the ground before Rio. Rio said only three words: "Follow me."
"Of course! I’ll follow you!" Dialga agreed without hesitation. Damn it — if it didn’t, it would be beaten to death.
"Excellent. Welcome to my team, Time God Dialga." Rio tossed a Luxury Ball. Dialga was drawn in. After three shakes, it was successfully captured.
"Perfect — now I’ve captured all three of Sinnoh’s gods." Rio smiled. This meant he was effectively the ruler of Sinnoh. With all three regional guardian gods under his command, who would dare oppose him? Oppose him, and he could have Giratina appear through a mirror that very night. That would scare anyone straight.
"Dialga, let me explain..." Rio released Dialga and repeated what he’d told Palkia and Giratina. When Dialga heard that Rio would capture it without restricting its freedom, it looked absolutely mortified.
You should have said that earlier! If I’d known, I would have surrendered immediately — no hesitation!
"Is there anyone else you want to capture? Give me a chance — I’ll handle it for you!" Dialga finally suggested. It couldn’t let its beating be in vain — it needed to take its anger out on someone, or it would explode.
"Is there anyone else I want to capture?" Rio raised an eyebrow.
"Yes! Is there anyone else? I’ll make them submit to you!" Dialga looked at him expectantly.
"But you three are the strongest in Sinnoh — and I’ve already captured you all. I can’t exactly have you beat up the Lake Guardians — they don’t deserve that." Rio said apologetically.
The three strongest in Sinnoh were already captured — there was nothing left. Well, there was the true Darkrai, but it didn’t deserve such a beating either.
"What about other regions? I’ll help you capture — no, beat them into submission for you!" Dialga said urgently. Damn it — Giratina and Palkia had gotten to beat Dialga up, and now it didn’t get anyone to take its anger out on? It wasn’t about to fight them again — Rio wouldn’t allow it anyway.
"Other regions?" Rio thought about it. If he expanded his focus beyond Sinnoh, there were options. In Hoenn, he had already captured Rayquaza — why not capture Groudon and Kyogre too?
"Actually, I do have some new targets." Rio said.
"Who, who?" Dialga perked up. Behind it, Giratina and Palkia also perked up — they hadn’t had enough fun yet and wanted to gang up on more legendaries.
"Hoenn’s Ground God Groudon and Sea God Kyogre." Rio said.
Dialga’s eyes lit up. "Perfect! We can beat them up too! Just call me, and I’ll be there!" Dialga said.
"Me too."
"Me too."
Giratina and Palkia echoed in unison.
"Alright, I’ll call you when I find them. Just give me a token." Rio smiled.
Moments later, he received three small stones: a black one from Giratina, a purple one from Palkia, and a blue one from Dialga. Calling out to the corresponding stone would summon their attention.
"Alright, you can disperse now. No more fighting."
"Giratina, stay for a moment — I have something to tell you."
Dialga and Palkia glanced at Giratina, then opened spatial rifts and left.
"What is it?" Giratina asked.
"Your Distortion World is still polluted, right? Later, you can take Shaymin in to purify it — it has the ability to cleanse pollution." Rio pointed at Shaymin in his arms, then spoke to it: "Little one, you promised me — if I stopped the world from being destroyed, you’d follow me."
"Don’t worry — I keep my word!" Shaymin said proudly, then nervously looked at Giratina. "It won’t hurt me, will it? And you promised to take me to the Flower Field."
"Don’t worry — Giratina looks scary, but it’s actually a very good Pokémon. I’ll go with you, and I’ll take you to the Flower Field soon."
"Alright."
And so, Rio captured Shaymin as well. He then took it to the Flower Field where the Gracidea flowers bloomed. There, Shaymin reunited with its kin and, using the Gracidea flower pollen, evolved into Sky Forme. Then Rio and a large group of Shaymin entered the Distortion World, absorbing all the pollutants generated by the battle between the Time and Space gods and converting them into natural energy. This boosted Giratina’s friendship by 5 points.
After everything was settled, Rio flew toward Hoenn on Charizard. With Zoroark covering for him at the League, he could roam freely — which was really convenient.
When Rio arrived in Hoenn, it was already evening. He had planned to head straight to Groudon’s resting place, but while eating in a remote town, he overheard talk of a millennium comet passing through the night sky, and a circus performing nearby.
"Millennium comet? Passing through the night sky?" Rio froze mid-bite. His mind immediately went to one Pokémon — yes, you: the Wish Star Jirachi, who wakes for only seven days every thousand years.
At that thought, he abandoned his plan to find Groudon. After eating, he stayed in town, released Charizard, and while walking off his meal, searched for the circus the diners had mentioned.
He found it — a circus being set up on a plain a few kilometers away.
"A circus and a millennium comet?" Rio smiled. He really was blessed by fate — luck was on his side. A circus and a millennium comet together meant exactly the scene from the original story where Jirachi appeared.
With that thought, Rio patted Charizard’s shoulder to land and decided to stay nearby for the night.
The circus took all night to set up. By the next morning, when Rio woke up nearby, the place was already packed with tourists who had heard the news.
"Since I’ve got time, might as well have some fun." Rio spent the day exploring the amusement park, trying every ride. The only downside was having no company — no beautiful woman to share it with, which made him feel a bit lonely.
But that was fine — his goal wasn’t just to have fun. It was Jirachi.
When he got tired, he received a flyer advertising "Great Magician Butler’s Magic Show."
"This is it." Rio’s eyes narrowed. Following the flyer’s directions, he entered a large tent where the circus was performing. It was already packed with people. The show had just started — a man in a white tailcoat pulled dozens of Swablu from his hat, drawing applause. Then came a performance where a Kirlia transformed into a woman in a formal gown — holding a brilliant meteorite.
"Is that the meteorite?" Rio stared at the stone in the woman’s hand.
Not far away, a child looked stunned. "I hear the star’s voice..." the boy murmured. "Who’s talking?"
A moment later, he felt his gaze drawn to the meteorite in the woman’s hands. He felt his confusion had been answered.
"It’s me — Jirachi." The voice echoed in his mind.
"Jirachi?" The boy stared at the meteorite in disbelief.
Then, as if compelled, he stepped down from his seat and walked toward the stage.
"Little boy, what’s wrong?" The golden-haired woman on stage looked at the boy who had run up.
"I heard a voice — I really heard it! It made a sound!" The boy pointed at the meteorite.
"Huh?" The tailcoat man and the golden-haired woman exchanged confused glances. Before they could speak, the boy’s parents rushed up.
"We’re sorry — so sorry for interrupting the show!" The boy’s father apologized, then looked at the boy. "Why did you just run up here?"
"But..." the boy hesitated.
"What a coincidence — we have a family of three on stage! Let’s invite them to help with our next performance!" The tailcoat man decided to roll with it and continue the show.
Without giving the family a chance to refuse, they were pushed into a box. A Dusclops was ordered to use Hyper Beam on them. Of course, the family emerged unharmed thanks to stage magic, earning applause.
After the show, the family was invited backstage. The tailcoat man explained the source of the voice. He told them that within the meteorite slept a Mythical Pokémon called Jirachi, which woke only once every thousand years. It had the power to grant wishes, and it could only stay awake for seven days. During that time, it would choose a pure-hearted child as its partner, who would protect it. Since the boy had heard its voice, he had been chosen — and needed to accept the meteorite.
Meanwhile, dozens of meters away, Rio eavesdropped through Gengar’s espionage and smiled.
