Sandslash led Alex's group steadily through the desert, moving with cautious and speed.
Alex sat comfortably on Luxray's back, allowing the group to maintain a good pace without wasting unnecessary energy. The heat of the desert pressed down on them from above, while the sand shifted endlessly beneath them, yet none of his Pokémon seemed particularly bothered.
As they moved deeper into the Desert Ruins, Alex began to notice something unusual.
They encountered several wild Pokémon along the way, but every single one of them reacted the same way. They ran as soon as they saw him and his Pokémon.
The moment they sensed Alex and his team, they didn't hesitate, didn't observe, didn't even consider attacking, they simply fled as fast as possible.
At first, Alex didn't think much of it. It was only natural that the most Pokemon did that.
When weaker Pokémon encountered something far stronger than themselves, their instinct was to escape. That was something he had seen countless times before.
However, as time passed, his expression slowly became more thoughtful.
Not one Pokémon attacked. Not even a single one. That was… strange.
In every other area he had traveled to, even in places filled with powerful Pokémon, there were always a few exceptions. A few reckless or overly aggressive individuals that would attack regardless of the difference in strength.
Those "special" Pokémon existed everywhere.
Even in Meteor Falls, where high-level Pokémon were common, there had still been some that challenged him despite the obvious gap in power.
But here…There was nothing.
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked across the endless sea of sand. he muttered quietly. " that is really weird."
Luxray's ears twitched slightly beneath him, but the Pokémon said nothing.
Alex leaned forward slightly, resting his arm casually on Luxray's head as he began to think.
There were only a few explanations for this kind of behavior. The first possibility came to his mind almost immediately.
If that mutated Flygon had controlled this desert for a long time, perhaps even for several generations, then it was entirely possible that the Pokémon living here had adapted to its rule.
A powerful predator at the top of the food chain could shape the behavior of everything beneath it.
If the Flygon was as strong and dominant as he thinks, then any Pokémon that acted recklessly would have likely died long ago.
Over time, only the cautious ones would remain. That kind of natural selection could easily explain the current situation.
Alex nodded slightly to himself. Then, his thoughts shifted to the second possibility. "The Alliance…"
After the recent Pokémon raid, it was theoretically possible that the Alliance had sent someone into this desert to eliminate a large number of Pokémon.
Such an action would certainly make the remaining ones more cautious, at least for a while.
However, the moment the idea fully formed in his mind, Alex dismissed it. "No… that's unlikely."
He knew how the Alliance operated.
They rarely killed large numbers of Pokémon unless it was absolutely necessary, such as when defending a city or responding to a direct threat.
Unnecessary slaughter would only create more problems in the long run. More importantly, it could attract the attention of something far worse.
Full Blood Legendary Pokémom. Those beings stood at the very top of this world. They weren't just powerful, they were the true rulers of this world.
Even the Alliance had to be careful not to provoke them.
If the Alliance were to recklessly slaughter Pokémon in large numbers without justification, there was always a chance that a powerful Legendary Pokémon would take notice and do something about it. And that was a risk no one wanted to take.
the Alliance isn't stupid enough to gamble like that
Of course, that didn't mean the Alliance was weak. There were certainly individuals within it who possessed terrifying strength.
People like Professor Oak—or others who might be even stronger than a regional Champion.
Alex believe that there were things hidden beneath the surface of the Alliance. that there could be trump cards he wasn't aware of.
But, even if the Alliance did have the strength to contend with certain Legendary Pokémon, that didn't mean they could face the particularly powerful ones.
There were levels to power, even among legends.
Take Groudon and Kyogre, for example. Both of them possessed overwhelming strength, enough to devastate entire regions if left unchecked.
Most people would consider them nearly invincible. But in Alex's estimation… They're not even in the top ten of Legendary Pokémon.
His gaze drifted toward the horizon, where the desert seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance.
There were other Legendary Pokémon, far more powerful, that existed beyond what most people could even imagine.
Compared to those beings, even Groudon and Kyogre are nothing.
Sandslash suddenly stopped and said to Gardevoir, who was standing right next to him, "We're here. From here on, the Horned Desert King's territory begins."
Gardevoir relayed these words to Alex, who immediately replied, "Oh? Why are you stopping? Come on, keep going. You can only leave once I've seen this Flygon."
Sandslash showed a clear expression of concern and fear, and only after a few moments of hesitation, he slowly continued moving forward.
Umbreon, seemingly reminded of a bad memory by that expression, showed a slightly sour look as she said, "Can you stop showing such a cowardly expression? You're a disgrace to all Pokémon."
All the newer Pokémon members showed shocked expressions when they saw that the normally very friendly Umbreon had such a mean side, while all the Pokémon that had been with her longer probably already knew the reason why she had said such a thing.
Alex, Blaziken, and Gardevoir quickly walked over to Umbreon and said a few words of encouragement to comfort her.
Even Crobat and Scizor moved a little closer to Umbreon, silently showing their support.
Sandslash wore a bewildered expression as he watched the one who had said such mean things being comforted by everyone, while he, the actual victim, was completely ignored by all of them.
