Chapter 105: Bait

A moment after Elder Han roared furiously, Cartel’s face turned black with shame. He immediately knew the ring had been swapped with the one he had before.

"That damned thief!"

He howled furiously, then said to Elder Han. "Please give me a chance, Elder. I will bring his head and the ring to you right away!"

Elder Han snorted, then threw him out with a wave of his hand.

Still furious, Cartel immediately took to the streets in order to find the disciple that had run into him.

As he and his close brothers asked around, they soon reached Mila, who had been confessed to.

"I heard she got confessed to by that same guy."

One lackey said to Cartel, prompting him to turn and glared at the girl. She was really beautiful, but his attention snapped to something else entirely.

The golden ring!

’He stole the ring to give it to a girl?!’ He felt blood rushing up his throat, but he swallowed it back down.

Furious, he walked over to Mila and slapped her hard.

The girl immediately collapsed to the ground, and her friends turned to snap at Cartel. But seeing his robes, they all shut up and backed away.

They were merely outer court disciples. They didn’t dare to challenge a core court disciple.

"Give me the ring."

Cartel growled, and the girl immediately gave him the ring.

He took it from her and tried checking inside, only to fail. He passed the ring to one of his lackeys to try.

"Uh... boss. This is a normal ring. It’s not even a storage ring."

"What?!" Cartel was shocked, and immediately turned to the girl.

She was still on the ground, holding her cheeks and weeping hard.

’Damnit. Did I make a mistake? He didn’t swap the ring? But how...?’

He held his head and tried thinking of what could have happened. If he failed to find the real ring, then he was completely screwed.

"Damnit."

While he racked his brain, the other lackey crouched before the girl and rubbed her reddened cheek.

"Hey, relax. I’m sorry Senior Brother did that to you. But what we’re looking for is very expensive, and it belongs to Elder Han."

Mila’s eyes widened, and he continued.

"So the guy who gave you the ring. What does he look like? What’s his name? How long have you known him?"

Mila’s eyes clouded with tears. "I... I don’t know his name, and I’ve never seen him before. He just came out of nowhere and proposed to me."

The lackey’s face darkened. "Damnit! He might not even be a part of our sect."

Cartel turned to him, and he immediately relayed the information he had gotten.

Cartel immediately helped the girl up and hugged her. "I’m sorry for how I treated you just now."

Then, he whispered to her ears. "If you give me all the information I need, I promise to marry you and take full responsibility of your growth and your cultivation."

Mila’s eyes widened, and she couldn’t believe her ears had heard right. Marry a core court disciple? A person who was in the Master Stage?

It was a total dream! A dream she didn’t dare dream of. However, it was happening. She was getting a chance presented to her.

So she took the chance. She told Cartel everything Seraph had said, word for word.

"Hm. Alright." Cartel nodded, his expression calm. "You will have to act as bait, then. Understood."

Mila nodded hesitantly, a cloud of doubt on her expression.

He immediately understood that she was afraid he wouldn’t keep his word, so he pulled her close and kissed her lips right in front of everyone.

"Boss?!"

The two lackeys were shocked, but Cartel didn’t care. He was really desperate at this moment. His life was at risk.

Holding Mila’s hand, he turned to everyone present and announced.

"Mila is now bethroted to me! Anyone who touches her touches me! And I will retaliate accordingly. Understood?!"

The disciples immediately nodded. Shocked, confused, and bewildered weren’t enough to describe their current emotions.

’Should I get slapped by him too?’ Every other female in the vicinity had the same thoughts.

Soon after, Cartel returned to Elder Han’s tent to make his report.

The man was low-key enraged. "Oh? Is that so?"

"You better find him. Or I will not let you go scot free."

Cartel immediately nodded, his expression grim.

.........

"Seraph. You really did a great job." Sylvia smiled as she checked the ring.

"Interesting, isn’t it? They lost something this valuable so easily."

Left chuckled, then looked around.

"We should get going now before they find us. I’m sure they’re already scouring the whole place."

Sylvia nodded. "Yeah. Left is right. We should return now."

Everyone agreed, then Seraph passed the ring to her.

"You guys go ahead. I’ll meet you soon. I need to do something real quick."

"What? No way. You’re in most danger." She retorted. "You’re coming with us."

Seraph took a few steps back, shaking his head slowly.

"I really have something to do. Don’t think of stopping me. I’ll meet you guys. Alright?"

Sylvia gritted her teeth, glaring at him. "You better return safely. Don’t give me any unnecessary worries."

Seraph smiled and playfully blew her a kiss. "Alright, mommy."

He chuckled, then immediately turned back and ran in a different direction.

Struggling to keep a straight face, Sylvia turned around stiffly and said to the twins. "Let’s go."

As night approached, Seraph searched around the perimeters of the Inferno Sect camp, then found the person he was looking for.

Still as beautiful as ever, Mila was standing alone, waiting for him.

With a wide smile, he came down and approached her.

Mila’s eyes widened. "You really came..."

Seraph smiled and said smoothly. "I always keep to my word, Mila."

Something flashed in her eyes, and a conflicted look appeared on her face.

"You even remember my name."

"Of course, I do." He grinned faintly. "But I didn’t expect that you’d accept being bait and lure me out. I really thought we had a chance together."

Mila’s eyes widened in shock.
