Chapter 107: The Twins Kidnapped
Naia’s feet paused, and her eyes sharpened.
She hung up on the phone and immediately called the siblings several times, but the ringing indicated their phones were either turned off or out of coverage.
She called Grandma and Uncle, asking if the two were with them. Both believed they were shopping somewhere in preparation and had lost track of time. It was fairly common, anyway.
Further, they might buy goods from other villages, and the signal in some places was quite weak.
Naia did not tell either of them about the call she received, at least for now, and she turned her attention back to the phone call, which soon rang again.
"You must’ve confirmed it, right?" the voice asked, tone filled with confidence.
"Come alone to 172 Warehouse at the old Eastern Industrial area," he said. This area had been abandoned already, in preparation for a new development. This meant danger for her and the twins.
"...what do you want?"
"Just come here, and also prepare a hundred million."
She almost scoffed. Scammers these days were so brave.
"I don’t have that money!" she said, about to cut the call.
"Don’t hang up. Your beige turtleneck looks good on you, by the way."
Her pupils contracted. With a deep frown, she whipped her head around. She looked for any sign of anyone watching her, her heart palpitating with a sense of nervousness.
It was just that the streets were packed. Not to mention this was a downtown area near the marketplace, so the place was particularly active.
She didn’t expend too much effort in finding that one though. Obviously, the ’spy’ was only recording and checking her out. The actual caller was probably not there.
Since she knew she was being watched, she had to look the part. How would a young girl who had barely stepped on society react when her cousins got kidnapped?
Naia stopped, found a nearby tree, and leaned on it as if her knees had buckled. From afar, she really looked like a young girl in shock.
"Don’t worry, your cousins are fine...for now," he said. "Just come here, and we’ll talk about the payment after. What about it? Aren’t I very easy to get along with?"
Naia didn’t speak for a few moments, adjusting her voice. "...let me hear their voices."
"You’re not in the position to make demands, young lady~"
"I’m scared! I will just call the police!" she said, sobbing, about to head to the station.
The kidnappers did not expect her to risk her cousins’ lives like this.
If Naia knew what they were thinking, she’d scoff at them. Obviously, she knew they would succumb to her demands, right?
In the end, after several moments of silence, Naia heading in the direction of a police officer making rounds, the kidnapper really compromised.
"Fine!" he snapped, and soon Naia heard some rustles and some muffled screams, and when she heard their voices, she paled.
It was really them.
"Linlin, Hans..." she said, voice a little shaky. "How are you?"
"Don’t...don’t worry a-about u-us! Wuuuu—"
"Y-yeah, t-these men are b-bad! T-They w-won’t let us g-go even if you c-come! So, d-don’t!"
They kept trying to dissuade her, even when they were also scared themselves.
SMACK!
PAK!
She could hear the sounds of impact, followed by screams. She knew the kids were hurt, and she felt her blood boiling.
"SHUT UP!" The man gritted his teeth as he screamed at the other line. While Naia’s eyes were red with anger, the man’s attention went back to his phone.
"Listen here, Miss Naia, if you don’t come right now, I will send you a body part every day, got that!? If you dare call the police—and I will know, trust me—you might as well ask for their heads directly!"
The phone hung up, not allowing them to communicate any more. Her eyes were sharp, and her hold of her phone tightened.
She did not have inhuman strength yet, so the phone didn’t get destroyed.
However, it did crack a bit, which was indicative of how angry she actually was.
...
As agreed upon, Naia headed to the warehouse by herself. There was no public transportation heading there, and she was being followed, so she had to take a taxi rather than take out one of her own modes of transportation.
After getting dropped outside the gates, Naia entered the warehouse area and then went through the gates.
The walls surrounding this warehouse were more than two meters of reinforced concrete fence, along with a one-meter-tall electric fence on top, so there was a high degree of privacy, even considering there were not many neighbors here.
In front of the main door were two guards holding guns. Their eyes brightened at the sight of her, openly looking at her up and down. Their eyes were quickly glazed with lust, as if they were already undressing her. Clearly, she was part of their ’wages’ today.
She narrowed her eyes. Since this was real, she already had a shortlist of who’d do this. Considering this seemed like it was done by a professional, she doubted it was Auntie Michi’s side, who were now very poor.
Not to mention, to her knowledge, the connections aunt’s husband had was mostly just the local businessmen and some law enforcement. That guy did not have the guys to connect to the underworld.
Her impression of him had the guts to commit bribery, yes, but he’d falter at the sight of the ’big and scary’ men.
On the other hand, the sperm donor had a lot of connections on that side. That man really did all sorts of things while pushing her mother to work every day.
Naia was curious what Ginna promised these bastards.
The hundred million that she got? New weapons? Resources? Heh.
However, there was also the possibility that it was the Red Gang she had heard about before. They were certainly both armed.
In that case, then this could even be involved with the ongoing case and investigations around Houser’s backing.
She trusted Officer Luke and knew he wouldn’t leak her involvement in that. However, what if some people around him mentioned it? It was also not impossible to infer on their own.
She’d prefer it if this were just petty revenge from an idiotic woman.
Ginna was, after all, not the smartest tool in the shed. Who knows if she decided to harm herself in the process?
