Chapter 91: An Eye For A Lung
ORION’S POV
Alexis’s tie is loosened, his expensive suit jacket is wrinkled as if he has been in a physical altercation, and his face is completely pale, covered in a thin sheet of cold sweat that glitters under the chandeliers.
He’s pushing past millionaires and foreign investors without a single glance or apology, his eyes locked onto mine with a look of pure, unadulterated panic that I’ve never seen on his face before.
I look right behind him, searching for his usual shadow, but Niko is nowhere around him. My heart takes a single, violent leap against my ribs as the cold weight of realization settles into my stomach, a sudden, dark certainty filling my mind.
Someone just took from me.
Alexis reaches me, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps as he grabs my arm with a desperate grip, his fingers digging into the fabric of my suit.
He doesn’t care that people are watching us, doesn’t care that the matriarchs are staring down from the steps with widening eyes.
"Orion," he says, his voice a low, panicked whisper that trembles with raw fear. "He’s gone. Niko went to check the back perimeter because the security feeds went dark for three seconds, and when I went toward the restrooms to look for the waiter you sent, the hallway was empty. There was blood on the floor near the service exit, Orion, and Leon is missing too."
The words hit my ears like a physical blow, but instead of knocking me back, they freeze the chaos in my mind into a single line of crystal focus.
The manic energy that had been bubbling under my skin suddenly hardens, turning into something cold,.

The world around me slows down, the faces of the wealthy guests blurring into meaningless shapes as my mind processes the information with lethal speed.
Leon. My pathetic, shadow-dwelling cousin.
He actually dared to move against me. He actually dared to lay his hands on the only thing in this world that belongs to me.
I thought he was just a coward who complained from the corners, a weakling who lacked the stomach for real violence. But he was hiding something deeper.
"Where is Niko now?" I ask, my voice incredibly calm, so quiet that Alexis has to lean in closer to hear it over the sound of the wind. My expression is entirely blank, a mask of stillness that scares Alexis more than any shout ever could.
"He’s tracking the service vehicle that left the gate two minutes ago," Alexis says quickly, his eyes darting around the courtyard to ensure no one is listening to us. "He took the other SUV. He said the vehicle was unmarked, a black sedan with tinted windows, moving without its lights on until it hit the main road. Orion, they knew the security blind spots. Someone inside gave them the access codes."
My gaze snaps back to the top of the stone steps, locking onto Lady Aunt and Alice Dubois.
They are still standing there, watching us with pale faces, their hushed conversation stopping the moment my eyes find them.
Aunt’s hand is shaking against her walking stick, her sharp eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and sudden apprehension.
Alice looks equally tense, her false smile completely erased, replaced by a cold, calculating look that tells me she is already trying to figure out how to protect herself from the coming storm.
Did they know? Did my aunt plan this with her son to strip away my leverage? Did Alice arrange for her unwanted stepson to be removed from the equation?
It doesn’t matter. Whether they knew or not, they allowed the weakness into this house. They created the environment that allowed someone to think they could steal from me.
They are just as guilty as the hands that pulled the trigger or pressed the needle.
"Alexis," I say softly, my voice carrying a cold finality that leaves no room for argument. "Get the main car. Bring the weapons from the lockbox in the trunk. Tell the perimeter guards that if anyone attempts to leave this estate before I am gone, they are to be shot on sight. I don’t care who they are. Investors, politicians, family members. No one leaves."
"Orion, the police will—"
"I don’t care about the police," I interrupt him, my voice dropping even lower, cutting his words off like a blade. "I don’t care about the press, and I don’t care about the reputation of this name. If Adrien is not back in my possession within the hour, there will be nothing left of this engagement party but a pile of ash. Do you understand me?"
Alexis stares at me for a fraction of a second, seeing the madness in my eyes, and he slowly nods.
He releases my arm and turns on his heel, moving through the crowd with a swift, silent efficiency that tells me he understands the stakes. He disappears into the dark corridor leading to the main gates, leaving me alone in the center of the courtyard.
I turn my body slowly, facing the stone steps once again. I begin to walk toward them, my strides longer and heavier this time, each step a declaration of war.
The wealthy guests look at my face and immediately scatter, running away from my path as if I’m a physical plague moving through the room.
The space around me empties, a wide circle of isolation forming as I approach the base of the stairs where my aunt stands.
Aunt watches me come, her jaw tightening as she braces herself for the confrontation. She raises her walking stick slightly, attempting to use her authority as the elder of the family to keep me at bay.
"Orion, what is the meaning of this?" she demands loudly, her voice shaking with a mixture of anger and fear. "What did that man say to you? Why are your guards locking the gates? You are making a scene in front of our most important associates!"

I stop at the bottom step, looking up at her with a calm, dark smile that makes the air turn to ice.
"Your son has taken something that belongs to me, Aunt," I say, my voice smooth and perfectly audible to the people standing closest to us. "He took Adrien from the restroom hallway. He used your security codes to get a vehicle inside the perimeter, and he ran like the little rat he is."
Aunt’s face goes completely white, her mouth opening slightly in genuine shock. She looks toward Alice, then back down at me, her hands gripping the silver handle of her stick so hard her skin turns translucent.
"No," she whispers, her voice losing all its aristocratic strength. "Leon wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t be so foolish. He knows what you would do to him, Orion. You are lying to create an excuse to call off the engagement."
"I never lie about what is mine," I reply softly, my eyes narrowing as I step onto the first stair, forcing her to look down at me from a shorter distance. "He took my duckling. He took the only thing in this miserable world that I actually care to keep. And you are going to stay right here on these steps until I find him. If he has touched a single hair on Adrien’s head, if he has caused him even a fraction of the pain I have planned for him, I will come back to this house and I will start with you."
Alice steps forward, her face tight with anger as she tries to intervene, her voice sharp and defensive.
"Orion, you cannot accuse the Dubois family or the Vassilis family of this without proof!" she barks, her fingers clenching into fists at her sides. "Adrien is a useless boy who probably ran away on his own to escape his obligations! He has always been a coward, always looking for a way out of his duties!"
I turn my dark, empty gaze onto her, and she instantly stops speaking, the words dying in her throat as she sees the sheer, unbridled malice radiating from my expression.
"He didn’t run, Alice," I say, my voice a quiet hiss that makes her step back. "He was taken. And if I find out that you had a single thing to do with this, if I find out that your disgusting little hands helped Leon clear the path, I will make sure you learn exactly what it feels like to be broken piece by piece on the basement floor. You think you know how to handle trash, but you have no idea what it means to be treated like it."
I don’t wait for her to reply. I turn around, my suit jacket flaring behind me as I walk away from the stairs, leaving the two women frozen in their terror. I stride through the grand glass doors of the church, entering the long, dreary hallway that leads to the restrooms where Adrien was last seen.
