Chapter 116: Chapter 116 Tactic vs Strategy

Oliver immediately rushed forward and summoned Flora who appeared beside him. The moment she materialized, Flora raised her hand and a massive vine erupted from beneath her feet, lifting her high into the air.

"This is bad!" Gremlin exclaimed. His plan had been disrupted far more quickly than he expected.

Gremlin was the one who had organized the group of students from House Solmire. Initially, many of them had refused. After all, even if they formed an alliance, they would eventually have to fight one another until only a single winner remained.

However, Gremlin was the son of an influential merchant whose trade network stretched across the entire kingdom. His pockets were practically overflowing with gold.

In exchange for their cooperation, he had promised to pay each of them generously. That was how he had gathered his temporary army.

And their first target was Gloria. Gremlin knew very well how dangerous a support-class tamer could become if left alone.

Gloria’s reputation was well known throughout her duchy because her ability to strengthen allies was exceptional. If she was allowed to continuously support stronger combat-oriented students, defeating them later would become far more difficult.

Therefore, Gremlin’s strategy had been simple. Eliminate Gloria first and then deal with everyone else afterward.

Unfortunately for him, things were no longer going according to plan. Not only had Ophelia arrived to protect Gloria, Oliver had appeared as well. And even Flora was already floating above the battlefield.

He now realized he might have picked the wrong target. His group was currently being sandwiched between dangerous opponents. But Gremlin was not someone who gave in to despair easily.

"Even if I fall, I won’t fall without a fight! Attack!" Gremlin shouted.

All the students in his group immediately charged forward and summoned their monsters. The melee fighters rushed toward Oliver and Ophelia, while the ranged tamers quickly moved into position behind them.

One of the monsters, a massive hippopotamus-like creature, charged directly at Oliver. Its master was currently riding on top of it with a grin.

Oliver continued charging forward without slowing down. The student smirked as he had complete confidence in his monster’s strength.

Suddenly, a thick Vine Wall erupted from the ground in front of the charging beast.

BOOM!!

The hippopotamus monster crashed into it and the wall shattered instantly. However, as the vines exploded apart, the student’s expression changed because Oliver was gone.

"Where is he?!"

The student immediately looked around in panic. Then his eyes widened as Oliver had somehow already appeared beside him.

BAM!

Before he could react, Oliver spun and delivered a powerful kick directly into the student’s face. The impact was so strong that the student was thrown off his monster and sent flying out of the platform.

The moment he fell into the darkness below, a light enveloped him and his monster immediately disappeared along with him.

First elimination of the battle. Oliver landed smoothly on the platform and glanced toward the remaining enemies.

On the other side of the platform, Ophelia had already entered her Partial Form. A beautiful red valkyrie armor now covered her body, while a gladius and shield appeared in her hands.

Beside her stood Honoria. The pair swept through the battlefield like a well-trained army of two. What was amazing was their synchronization.

Every movement Ophelia made was mirrored perfectly by Honoria. When Ophelia attacked, Honoria followed. When Honoria defended, Ophelia immediately covered the opening.

Their teamwork was flawless. It clearly showed how many years they had spent fighting together.

CLANG!

One student was sent flying by Ophelia’s shield bash.

SWOOSH!

Another was eliminated by Honoria’s sword.

The remaining students quickly realized they were facing a monster. Not just Ophelia but both Ophelia and Honoria together.

Soon, the platform became quiet. Only a single student from the group remained.

Gremlin.

The merchant’s son was breathing heavily as he stared at the powerful students before him. Beside him stood his monster, a massive beast resembling a grizzly bear.

The creature stood nearly three meters tall and possessed thick muscles that bulged beneath its dark fur. Its claws scraped against the platform as it growled menacingly.

Cold sweat ran down his forehead. From the beginning, he had thought Gloria would be the easiest target among the top candidates. Instead, he had attracted two other monsters to the same platform.

Oliver and Ophelia immediately rushed toward Gremlin from opposite directions.

Gremlin did not hesitate. His grizzly bear monster instantly merged with him as a result of Full Form transformation.

His body rapidly expanded until he stood over two meters tall. Brown fur covered his entire body, while a massive bear head formed over his own like a living helmet. Sharp claws extended from both hands, and large fangs protruded from his mouth.

The transformation immediately increased his presence severalfold.

"Come!"

Gremlin roared as he slammed his claws together.

However, neither Oliver nor Ophelia slowed down. Instead, they accelerated even further.

Oliver was the first to arrive as he leaped high into the air.

Gremlin immediately swung a massive claw toward him yet Oliver twisted his body midair with surprising agility as the claw narrowly missed him.

SWOOSH!

His dagger sliced across Gremlin’s arm. Before Gremlin could react, Oliver had already landed behind him. Gremlin attempted to turn around however his enlarged body made the movement slower than before.

Oliver’s eyes then flashed.

"Dominating Blow!"

SWOOSH!

The attack landed perfectly and Gremlin’s body froze. For a brief moment, he was stunned.

And that brief moment was all Ophelia needed. She and Honoria instantly appeared before him.

Swoosh!

Swoosh!

Slash!

A series of rapid strikes struck Gremlin’s elbows, knees, shoulders, and ankles. These precise attacks shattered Gremlin’s balance and crippled his movements.

"Aaarghh!" Gremlin shouted in pain.

Then Ophelia stepped forward.

"Rising Uppercut!"

She swung her gladius upward with tremendous force and Gremlin’s massive body was launched into the air. At the same moment, Honoria spread her wings and shot upward.

The valkyrie monster caught up to him instantly before a devastating aerial combo followed as multiple strikes landed in rapid succession.

Before Gremlin could even defend himself, the final attack connected directly to his chest. Gremlin’s body disappeared as he had been eliminated.

However, the moment Gremlin was eliminated, Honoria immediately turned her attention toward Flora. The valkyrie monster spread her wings and shot toward Flora.

Her gladius gleamed as she swung it directly toward Flora, who was standing atop the giant vine. Surprisingly, Flora showed no expression of shock. She calmly stepped forward and jumped from the vine.

The blade narrowly passed beneath her. In midair, Flora gracefully spun around Honoria and then she raised her hand.

"Vinebloom Whip."

A vine whip shot forward from her hand, instantly wrapped itself around Honoria’s body. The valkyrie tried to break free, but Flora had already completed her next move.

Using the vine as leverage, Flora pulled herself downward. She landed on the platform while dragging Honoria with her.

BOOM!

Honoria was smashed directly into the platform and cracks spread across the surface beneath her.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, Ophelia had already launched her offensive against Oliver.

CLING!

PING!

Sparks flew every time their weapons collided as fierce exchange erupted between them. Oliver relied on speed, agility, and precision while Ophelia relied on overwhelming strength and relentless pressure.

She was a warrior through and through. Every strike carried tremendous force and each time Oliver blocked, he could feel his muscles trembling from the impact.

’She’s strong.’ Oliver narrowed his eyes.

Ophelia’s physical strength was far beyond what he expected as she was not holding back at all.

CLANG!

Another heavy strike forced Oliver to slide backward. However, he immediately recovered his footing and rushed forward again. Neither side was willing to give ground.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the platform, Gloria watched the battle anxiously. Up until now, she had barely done anything. After all, the battle had progressed far faster than she expected.

"Lumikee, what should we do?" Gloria asked nervously.

"Kee! Kee!"

Lumikee immediately waved her key-shaped staff energetically. The fairy repeatedly pointed toward Ophelia.

"You think I should help her?"

"Kee!"

Lumikee nodded enthusiastically.

"Alright, Lumikee! You’re right. As a roommate, I’ll do my best to help her!" Gloria clenched her fists with a determined expression appeared on her face.

At last, the number one support tamer in first year finally stepped forward!

And it would be bad news for Oliver.
