Chapter 709: Chapter 680: Love in a Parallel Universe [002]

Based on common sense gleaned from romance movies—the boss’s office is most likely on the top floor—so as soon as Sienna Thorne entered the elevator, she pressed the button in the upper right corner without a second thought.

The shiny high-class elevator slowly ascended, with others exiting on different floors, leaving her swaying slightly as she was taken to the 58th floor.

With a "ding," the elevator doors slid open. She tightened her grip on her bag, bit her back teeth, and stepped out of the elevator.

Her high heels clicked crisply and pleasantly against the high-grade marble floor.

Trusting her instincts, she headed straight for the very expensive-looking embossed door.

"Ma’am, who are you looking for?"

A male voice called out from behind her.

Sienna paused but ignored it, quickening her pace, only to be blocked by two men who appeared out of nowhere.

"Ma’am, if you don’t tell us who you’re here for, I’m afraid we’ll have to ask you to leave."

Suppressing her anger and urgency, Sienna replied, "I’m here for your boss, Douglas Fulton!"

"I’m sorry, Mr. Fulton is not in the office," one of the men said, raising a hand as if to usher her away.

After all the effort to get in, she couldn’t leave now. If she didn’t get Douglas Fulton to transfer the wages to Old Wang’s account today, both Old Wang and his son were doomed!

Her nose stung with impending tears, and with resolve, she pushed past the two men, preparing to rush in.

But at that moment, the door opened from inside.

A group of men came out, surrounding a tall, poised young man, bowing as they walked: "Take care, Mr. Fulton."

So this was Douglas Fulton!

He didn’t look at her, hands in his pockets, walking past her without a sideways glance.

Her mind heated up, and she turned to try and speak to him, but the two men who had stopped her earlier surrounded her again. Thinking quickly, she put on a smile: "Oh, so your Mr. Fulton isn’t here? I’ll come back another day. I’ll be going now."

With that, she quickly turned and left.

Seeing her heading towards the elevator, the two men assumed she was leaving for real, so they returned to the office behind them.

Sienna followed the man down the corridor. He was very tall, about six foot three, with long legs, walking briskly. She jogged a few steps but couldn’t catch up.

Just as she was about to run after him, he suddenly turned right and entered a room.

She acted without thinking, following him and pushing the door open.

As the door automatically closed behind her, she finally realized something was wrong.

A row of sinks, faucets, an entire wall of shiny mirrors, stalls opposite, and a men’s urinal to the side!

Everything was telling her—this was the men’s restroom!

She panicked and felt like crying! She’s never been in a men’s restroom in her life!

She instinctively wanted to run, but at that moment, Old Wang’s desperate face, every pore filled with hopelessness, flashed in front of her eyes.

Swallowing hard, she gritted her teeth, turned around quickly, and angrily approached the man washing his hands at the sink.

"You’re the boss here, right?" Her anger and haste made her speak at a dizzying pace, "Do you know that because you’re maliciously withholding workers’ wages, there’s a worker about to jump off a building at the site? That worker’s son has leukemia and is in the hospital waiting for his wages to provide his platelet transfusion! You run such a big company, yet you want to let a kid wait in a hospital to die over a little money?! How can you call yourself human? Don’t you have a son?! Do you?!" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Though she spoke quickly, the man understood every word.

He looked up into the mirror with an unaffected expression, glanced at her briefly with a cold gaze, then lowered his eyes, calmly continuing to wash his hands. He pulled out two tissues, wiped his hands elegantly, and tossed them into a nearby bin.

It was as if he saw her as air, not giving her another glance, and turned to leave expressionless.

"To think there are people so shameless!" Sienna charged after him in a rage, "You can’t leave! Make sure Old Wang’s wages..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the man suddenly turned, and she bumped into his chest, her face crashing into his torso.

His chest was firm, with a pleasant, distinct scent of fir.

Startled, she took a step back.

There was a bright red lipstick mark left on his white shirt.

He looked down at his shirt, then at her. His eyes traveled from her finely contoured features to her lips with half-smudged lipstick, down to her white shirt slightly revealing the outline of her undergarment due to sweat.

"You’ve got the wrong person."

He withdrew his gaze, speaking plainly.

The tall man took a couple of steps toward the sink, pulled out a tissue to wipe the lipstick stain off his chest. When it didn’t come off, he tossed the tissue away, put his hands into his suit pockets, and turned to leave.

Sienna snapped back to reality, jogging to catch up with him, trailing closely behind.

"You know Mooncrest, right?" She forced herself to stay calm, "They’ve been delaying workers’ wages for six months. Now a worker is at the end of his rope, about to jump because he has no money for his son’s leukemia platelet transfusion! I’m his lawyer; I just came from the site. By 6 p.m., if his wages haven’t arrived, he’s going to jump! The police and media are all there now, and if he really jumps, your Mooncrest won’t be worth selling!"

The more she talked, the more agitated she became, but the man remained unresponsive.

She followed him into the elevator, unwilling to miss any chance to secure Old Wang’s wages: "I don’t need to explain the consequences to you; you clearly understand! The wages Old Wang is owed are actually less than a hundred thousand. If you don’t pay up, and he jumps, your loss will be far greater than that!"

While she was speaking, the elevator reached the basement level.

The man had not said a single word, nor looked at her all this time. He exited the elevator and walked straight toward a vehicle that looked both like an SUV and a supercar.

Sienna didn’t know what type of car it was, but judging by its commanding front, there was no doubt it was a luxury vehicle.

Driving a car like that, running such a big company, yet maliciously withholding workers’ hard-earned money; when confronted with the situation, still acting as if it’s only reasonable!

Old Wang’s despairing face and the man’s noble, graceful yet cold demeanor gradually overlapped in Sienna’s mind into a scene worse than death.

She ran in front of the car without thinking, arms spread wide, using her body to block the man’s car from leaving.

From inside the vehicle, the man’s deep amber eyes watched her coldly through the windshield, then he honked the horn after a few seconds.

Sienna stood her ground, with a bag in one hand and her arms wide, resolutely blocking the car’s path.

Time ticked away, the heat in the underground parking lot intense, sweat beading densely on her forehead, back, and chest. Her white linen shirt became entirely soaked, revealing the distinct outline of her nude-colored underwear underneath.
