Chapter 643: Chapter 643: Chloe Reed Feeds Him
For a moment, the bodyguard was confused by his actions.
He had been so desperate for Ma’am to come before.
He’d used every trick in the book, even stooping to act weak and pitiful.
’But what was going on now?’
’Now that he was in real pain, he wasn’t calling for Ma’am anymore?’
The bodyguard scratched his head in confusion, but he always did what Mr. Grant said.
The nurse soon returned with painkillers.
Walker Grant took the painkillers and lay down, quietly waiting for them to take effect.
The night seemed to stretch on forever. The pain in his eyes didn’t subside, and Walker Grant could hear the sounds from the hallway shift from dead silence to a faint, indistinct clamor.
Finally, the door to his room was pushed open, and Dylan Finch’s voice drifted in. "Mr. Grant, I brought breakfast."
’Is it morning already?’
"Mm."
Walker Grant answered, his voice extremely hoarse, and Dylan Finch helped him sit up.
...
After Chloe Reed went back, she didn’t sleep well the entire night.
She kept startling awake. Staring at the stark white ceiling, with the smell of disinfectant lingering in her nostrils, her heart ached with an inexplicable sadness.
When dawn broke, she went to wash up and saw her own haggard reflection in the mirror.
"KNOCK KNOCK!"
A knock sounded at the door, followed by the bodyguard’s voice. "Ma’am, breakfast is here. It’s in Mr. Grant’s room. Would you like to eat there or in here?"
Chloe Reed turned off the faucet, walked over, opened the door, and pointed in the direction of Walker Grant’s room.
Her meaning was clear: she would eat in Walker Grant’s room.
The bodyguard saw her gesture and nodded.
He glanced at Chloe Reed’s somewhat haggard face. His lips parted, but after a long moment of hesitation, he didn’t say what was on his mind.
’Mr. Grant told me not to say anything.’
’If I said something, would he dock my pay?’
Still hesitating, the bodyguard arrived outside Walker Grant’s room.
Chloe Reed pushed the door open and walked in to find Dylan Finch was there as well.
"Ma’am."
Dylan Finch greeted her, then asked, "Did you not sleep well last night? You look exhausted."
Walker Grant immediately turned toward her. "Chloe, are you feeling unwell?"
Chloe Reed took out her phone and typed. A mechanical female voice emanated from it, saying, "I had a nightmare. It’s nothing serious."
Dylan Finch nodded and said, "In that case, let’s have breakfast first. The doctor will be here for a check-up later."
Chloe Reed nodded and sat on the edge of the hospital bed.
She gazed at Walker Grant’s face. White gauze obscured most of his features, revealing only the lower half of his face. His skin had a sickly pallor, but she couldn’t discern much else.
She averted her gaze and ate in silence.
"Mr. Grant!"
Just then, Dylan Finch’s sudden cry of alarm rang out.
Chloe Reed immediately looked up and saw him, spoon in hand, trying to eat his congee. But instead of bringing it to his mouth, he’d brought the spoon to his own cheek.
She immediately reached out, took the spoon from his hand, scooped up some congee, and brought it to his lips.
He was visibly stunned for a moment, then a faint smile touched his lips. "Chloe, thank you."
Then, he opened his mouth and ate the congee.
Dylan Finch watched this scene, a flicker of disbelief in his eyes.
’Is... this for real?’
’Even if he’s blind, he should still have a sense of his own body. How could he feed the wrong spot?’
Dylan Finch sensed something was amiss, but he said nothing.
’Mr. Grant was really going to great lengths to keep Ma’am from leaving.’
’Exposing his ruse right now would be tantamount to kissing his year-end bonus goodbye, wouldn’t it?’
Dylan Finch chose to remain silent.
Throughout breakfast, Chloe Reed fed Walker Grant until he was full before she began to eat her own meal.
Walker Grant took a napkin to wipe the corner of his mouth and said gently, "I’m sorry to trouble you."
