Chapter 549: Chapter 549: Only Five Times a Month
"Yeah."
Walker Grant grunted softly and headed for the elevator. He took it to the second basement level and walked straight to the door of the shooting range. The moment he pushed it open, he was met with the continuous sound of gunfire. BANG! BANG! BANG!
’It’s been an hour since I dropped her off. Has she really been practicing in the shooting range this whole time?’
Walker Grant watched her slender, upright figure. She gripped a pistol with both hands, headphones covering her ears. Her crystal-clear eyes were fixed on the moving target in front of her, her gaze exceptionally focused and sharp. As soon as she locked onto the target’s trajectory, she started firing.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
She fired all her rounds, and a few of them even hit the bullseye.
Seeing this, Walker Grant remarked, "You’re improving quickly."
Chloe Reed lowered the pistol, picked up a nearby cup of water, and took a sip before asking, "How’s Noah Grant?"
Walker Grant looked at her, his narrow phoenix eyes exceptionally deep. "He needs to be hospitalized for a few days to monitor his recovery," he said in a low, slow voice. "We can’t be sure yet what kind of long-term effects there might be."
Upon hearing this, Chloe Reed’s long lashes trembled. She tightened her grip on her cup and asked, "What are you going to do about Sunny Reed?"
’Sunny Reed is the culprit. She ruthlessly poisoned Noah Grant just to satisfy her own selfish desires. It would be letting her off way too easy if we did nothing.’
Walker Grant said, "Let’s not rush. We’ll talk about it once Noah’s condition has stabilized."
Chloe Reed nodded and started walking toward the door.
She had been practicing for an hour and was tired. She needed to go back and rest.
Just then, a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist. She glanced down and saw it was him. Her gaze traveled up his arm to meet his dark, deep eyes.
"What is it?"
She asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
Walker Grant nodded. "Yes, there is something I need to discuss with you."
Chloe Reed pulled her hand away, took two steps back until her back was against the wall, and said, "Go on. I’m listening."
Walker Grant gazed at her and explained the promise he’d made to Noah. His tone softened. "If you agree, you can ask for anything in return. Anything at all."
He lowered his gaze, his voice tinged with sorrow. "It’s my responsibility that my brother’s son ended up like this. All I want now is to make his life a little better."
An aura of desolation seemed to settle over him. He had concealed such profound emotions beneath a calm exterior. Aside from being a little cold at the very beginning, he hadn’t revealed any of this in the days that followed.
But now, he was laying this part of himself bare before her.
After he finished speaking, he lifted his eyes to gaze at her, a faint light flickering in their dark depths. It was the glint of insecurity.
The shooting range fell silent. As the seconds ticked by, the hope in Walker Grant’s heart began to fade. His gaze shifted away from her face, and just as he was about to speak, she spoke first.
Chloe Reed said, "Fine. It’s just a transaction for us anyway. When this is all over, you’ll go on with your life with him, and I’ll have my own."
With that, she turned and walked toward the door.
Walker Grant’s head snapped up. He took several steps forward and hugged her from behind, his voice growing deeper. "Chloe, thank you."
Chloe Reed closed her eyes and said, "My condition is... only five times a month."
Walker Grant: "..."
’That sacrifice seems a little too great.’
