Chapter 548: Chapter 548: Drawing a Big Pie
Noah burst into tears. They streamed down his pale little face, making for a truly pitiful sight. He sobbed, all the while watching Walker Grant’s expression. Seeing that his uncle wasn’t moved and was only watching him coldly, his sobs grew quieter and quieter.
The air in the hospital room was thick with the smell of disinfectant. The nearly four-year-old had already learned to play little games; he believed that if he looked pitiful enough, his uncle would take pity on him and grant his every request.
Walker Grant watched the tears Noah shed for Sunny Reed, and his gaze darkened. He reached out, carefully wiped the boy’s tears away, and said in a gentle voice, "Noah, be a good boy. You’re going to get better. From now on, Uncle Walker and Aunt Chloe will be here with you."
’He would never allow someone as vicious as Sunny Reed to stay by Noah’s side. This time, she poisoned Noah just to stay. What about next time? What other unimaginable things would she do if her wishes weren’t granted?’
So, Walker Grant simply comforted Noah without giving in to his request. The boy seemed to sense this. His little mouth puckered, and he began to cry even more heartbrokenly.
The thought of never seeing his mother again made him especially sad. He cried so hard he started to hiccup, which looked a little comical.
"A-Aunt Chloe doesn’t like me... I... I’m scared to look at her. Uncle Walker, *sob*... please just let Mom stay. I’m begging you, I’m really, really begging you..."
Walker Grant took a tissue and wiped the boy’s tears. ’He just needs to cry it out, and then he’ll calm down. He’s still too young; even if I told him certain things, he wouldn’t understand. But he’ll know everything when he’s older.’
"Aunt Chloe does like you. You’re so well-behaved and smart. You’ll come live with us, and Aunt Chloe will take you to the amusement park. She’ll buy you snacks and clothes." Walker Grant hadn’t actually convinced Chloe Reed yet, but seeing the child crying so miserably, he had no choice but to paint a rosy picture for now.
Noah blinked, clearly finding it hard to believe. "Really? Will Aunt Chloe really like me? And my drawing... did she see it?"
’He was terrified that Walker was lying to him. He actually did want to get closer to Chloe Reed, but every time his aunt saw him, her eyes were cold. She would barely say a word to him. After a while, he just gave up trying.’
A small smile played on Walker Grant’s lips. He wiped away the boy’s fresh tears, his voice growing even gentler. "She saw it, and she said you draw very well. When you come to live with us, you can draw for her all the time. She said you have a real talent for it."
Noah’s emotions gradually subsided. Exhausted from crying, he closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep.
His eyes were red and swollen from crying, looking like walnuts. It was a heartbreaking sight: one so young, lying in a hospital bed and suffering the effects of poison.
Walker Grant arranged for a caregiver and a nanny to look after Noah, instructing them to let him know when the boy woke up so he could return.
He returned to Jardinelle but didn’t see Chloe Reed. He asked a servant, "Where’s my wife?"
Annie York stepped forward, pointed toward the elevator, and said, "Chloe went down to the basement as soon as she got back. You gave orders that no one is to go down there without your permission, sir, so I don’t know what she’s doing."
