Chapter 1201: Chapter 1201: Long Jin’s Request
"You’re saying that the Blood Slaughter Legion didn’t primarily target the Magic Plane Legion but bypassed them to launch a surprise attack on the Demon Race army?" Pei Yan expressed interest and meaningfully responded upon hearing this new information.
"Yes, this was the battle report transmitted after your second sleep; the Blood Slaughter achieved a major victory and was pursued by the two Plane Alliance Army upon retreat, losing only a small part of the legion responsible for the counterattack. Do you think there’s a problem?"
"No problem! Continue." Pei Yan nodded without saying much, signaling Long Jin to continue.
Long Jin sighed with a bitter smile: "But none of these are important to us. This incident originated from our Dragon Realm; not only were we invaded, but even the former Dragon King was captured with his fate unknown. Those aware of the insider facts know that the Dragon King was first ambushed and captured, only then was the Dragon Realm invaded! For those not in the know, there’s widespread rumor about the Dragon Realm battle, including talks of our Dragon Realm being directly breached and the Dragon King being forcibly taken during combat, which is a severe blow to our morale."
"Then these people become your targets to make an example?" Pei Yan pointed to the wailing captives of the Dark Race and asked.
"Exactly, this battle made both our races realize that if we don’t eliminate these traitors with in-depth knowledge of the Dragon Realm who have defected, they will remain a grave threat in the future. Consequently, over these days, our two races jointly agreed on several actions; first, not only do we need to reorganize the Dragon Realm but also reform the previously lax defense management. Preparations are underway for any possible future foreign invasions; the Space Lock range is expanded, previous defense measures overturned and reinforced, and the whole Dragon Realm including surrounding environments like mountains and forests will undergo fundamental changes for this plan."
After listening to Long Jin, Pei Yan nodded in agreement, saying: "This should have been done earlier."
"The second task is to purge the scattered members of the Dark Race. Key captives from the Dragon Realm battle are still undergoing interrogation, while those weaker without useful intelligence along with people captured these days are being erected here. This proposal came from my father, and my teacher agreed after hearing the report. These traitors won’t die immediately; their blood will merge with their souls gradually sinking into the stone frames below, eventually becoming statues permanently at the Dragon Realm entrance, their souls eternally suffering from exposure. Should an external threat invade the Dragon Realm, our clansmen will drive these statues to fight first, only when they shatter in battle will they be redeemed and liberated, serving as a warning to every Dragon Realm inhabitant about the fate of traitors."
"Wow!" Long Jin’s chilling words sent shivers down Pei Yan’s spine; he initially thought those people hanging would just be executed, unaware they’d be turned into statues to warn passersby, and ultimately driven to destruction. The planes could indeed be ruthless, far surpassing his previous experiences.
"Do you have any news about your former Dragon King?" Pei Yan, seeing Long Jin’s gloomy face, quickly changed the topic.
"No news!" Upon hearing this question, Long Jin’s angry expression turned into a worried sigh: "You know once someone is taken out of the plane, it’s incredibly difficult to rescue them back. Despite collecting clues about Lord Zhuo Geng over these days and starting retrieval and revenge plans, the progress is difficult, still having no leads after all these days."
On this matter, Pei Yan didn’t inquire further; the Blood Slaughter capturing the Dragon King surely isn’t just about boosting morale. Pei Yan and most in the Dragon Realm are quite aware that Lord Zhuo Geng’s chances are dire, but he couldn’t speak these words aloud. Pei Yan could only offer Long Jin comfort, saying if there’s a useful opportunity, he’d support him wholeheartedly; but Long Jin, upon hearing Pei Yan’s words, seized the chance, smiled and replied: "Speaking of opportunities, there really is one I’d hope you could help with."
"Oh!" Pei Yan hesitated briefly, seeing Long Jin’s embarrassed expression, then straightforwardly said: "Tell me, anything I can accomplish, I’ll endeavor to handle."
"Rescuing Lord Zhuo Geng and seeking revenge requires long-term planning; resolving it short-term isn’t realistic. However, there’s a matter that’s private to our clan." Long Jin said, staring directly at Pei Yan’s eyes seriously: "Now, with numerous affairs in the Dragon Realm and an impending war, our clan lacks sufficient powerful manpower to handle it. So, my father hopes you can lend a hand at the appropriate time. Rest assured, Pei Yan sir! This is our clan’s private matter unrelated to the Dragon Realm; you won’t be doing this for nothing. My father promised that if you handle this matter, our clan’s secret treasury will open for you, allowing you to pick any divine artifact or equally valuable rare material as a reward."
"Wow!" Pei Yan was stunned for the second time today. Offering a divine artifact as a reward is already a generous move, more so with the option to choose; knowing that divine artifacts differ in ranking and abilities, there’s variation from high to low. Like his fusion’s highest-rated divine artifact Dangie, compared to a low-ranking invisibility hat, differs significantly. He heard rumors prior to coming to the Dragon Realm about the Dragon Race’s rich collection; now, the Daoist Race’s Clan Leader offering him access to the treasury to select his reward for this task.
The greater the temptation, the more dangerous the task is likely to be. Although Pei Yan was thrilled, he controlled his excitement, pretended difficultly: "May I ask precisely what task leads your father to offer such a substantial reward?"
"Assassinate a person." Long Jin stated directly.
"Who?" Pei Yan curiously inquired.
"Bai Ze!"
"Bai Ze?" Pei Yan was momentarily stunned then laughed heartily: "Just that? Hahaha! I’ll take it! I have grudges with him anyway, and since your Dragon Realm targets Bai Ze for revenge against the Blood Slaughter, I agree to help you deal with him when the chance arises."
"No! No! No!" Long Jin shook hands in explanation: "This issue is a private matter for our clan and unrelated to the Dragon Realm. Perhaps I didn’t clarify earlier; it’s not merely about killing Bai Ze, but more importantly, reclaiming an item from him."
"An item?" Pei Yan, remembering the day Bai Ze used a Jade Pendant against Saraf, linked the dots and blurted out: "That Jade Pendant?"
