Chapter 31: Confidence
Stefan’s POV
I recovered fast.
Of course, I had to. A man wouldn’t get anywhere on this planet standing around feeling sorry for himself over a missed opening.
"I should eat first. The mission will achieve itself." I concluded immediately.
Then my eyes landed on the tall slave boy hovering near the fire pits, the same one who’d fed me by hand the other day, and something clicked into place. Perfect timing, honestly. I subconsciously already trusted the kid a little, the way you trust anybody who has fed you without complaint.
"You," I said, pointing. "And you two."
I grabbed two more slaves standing idle nearby, dragging them into the arrangement whether they liked it or not. The boy blinked at me, uncertain, and I gestured at the food again, more specific this time.
"Bring that. And that. Not that one, the one behind it. And whatever’s in that pot, I don’t even know what it is but it smells like it wants to be eaten."
They followed the instructions without a word, gathering everything I pointed at like I was some kind of visiting dignitary instead of a debt-ridden con man three days into an unpaid apprenticeship as a beast kingdom sex slave.
We walked back to the tent, and I settled myself down onto the fur, letting the boy arrange everything within reach.
The System, naturally, couldn’t just let me eat in peace. It dinged.
[DAILY TASK REMINDER:]

- Fruit fast until 6PM — +200 AP
- Run with a warrior for 5 minutes — +200 AP
- Do not sleep until midnight — +1,000 AP
I rolled my eyes so hard it almost hurt.
"Not today," I said under my breath, as I pointed at the biggest piece of meat on the plate. The boy handed it over into my mouth without hesitation.
I bit in. Juicy, still warm, dripping with whatever spice these people used that I still hadn’t figured out the name of.
I chewed slowly, deliberately angling my face toward the general direction of the notification like the System could actually see me mocking it.
"I don’t need your measly AP today," I said, mouth half full, entirely unbothered. "I’m a rich man now."
[NOTICE: Host should begin working toward the Primary Mission before the deadline expires.]
"I know," I said, waving a hand dismissively. "I’ve got ten hours. I’ll get there."
Confidence. That’s the whole game. You say it like it’s already done, and eventually it becomes true.
That had worked on for me on Earth. It had to work here too.

Two hours later, I had eaten and even slept for a while, then I stood up to go look for Lily.
Without a plan on how to make her surrender her breasts to me. But I knew the plan would form when I got in her presence.

"Where are you, my Flower?" I muttered with a grin as I began looking for her.
I had believed it was going to be easy.
[MAIN MISSION: Pending]
[TIME REMAINING: 6:30:00]
The system reminded me and that was when I realized I had spent around an hour of walking the camp but there was no sign of Lily anymore.
I was starting to wonder if the woman had a sixth sense specifically for avoiding me when I spotted Jonquil instead, dragging two slaves toward the punishment tent by their arms like sacks of grain that had personally offended her.
[JONQUIL’S MOOD - Upset.]
"She is still upset?" I wondered aloud. I could remember that was the same reading as yesterday, near enough. Whatever had been sitting on her hadn’t lifted.
"System," I muttered, half to myself, half hoping for an actual answer for once. "Why is she upset?"
[Beast Insight Lv.2 required to determine cause.]
[Not yet unlocked.]
I scoffed. "For someone who ignores ninety percent of what I say, you sure picked a convenient moment to actually respond." Still, credit where it’s due - at least it answered.
I should’ve kept walking. Sincerely, that would’ve been the smart move, given I had a whole other mission burning down on a six-hour clock and Jonquil wasn’t even part of it today.
But something in me itched at the sight of her dragging bodies around with that same flat, closed-off face, and my feet moved before my brain finished arguing against it.
"Hey," I said, coming up beside her.
Nothing. She didn’t even glance my way, just kept moving toward the tent flap like I hadn’t spoken at all.

I stood there a second, genuinely stunned. That was new. Jonquil had ignored plenty of things I’d said before, but never me entirely, never like I was furniture in her path.
She flung the two slaves inside the punishment tent without ceremony, straightened up, and turned back around to face me directly.
Her eyes found mine, steady, unreadable in the way only hers ever managed to be.
"May I have a fast training," she blunted.
I blinked at her, totally thrown for a second. Fast training?
My brain scrambled through every literal meaning of those two words before it clicked exactly what she meant, dragging up the memory of her saying the exact same phrase mid-thrust yesterday, breathless, using "training" like it was the only word her vocabulary had for what we were doing.
Beast warrior code for a quickie, apparently. No foreplay, no lead-up, just get it done and get back to whatever needed getting back to.
"Wow!" Here was a woman, dragging bodies around with a face like a closed door, clearly carrying something heavy that had a lot to do with me, and instead of snapping at somebody or stewing in silence the way every woman I’d ever conned back on Earth would’ve done when she was upset - the ones who’d go cold and quiet and make you guess what you did wrong for three days straight - Jonquil just walked straight up and asked for exactly what she wanted.
No games. No mixed signals. No "I’m fine" that actually meant the opposite.
Dude, I could get used to a woman who said what she meant. As a matter of fact, I liked her already.
I smiled slowly, the ache in my chest from Zinnia’s fists completely forgotten.
"Yeah, sure. I can do that." I replied.
