Chapter 397: Chapter 397: Snowgrave and Oblivion Meteor, Two Forbidden Spells

Snowgrave!

As the dragon unleashed its forbidden spell, the entirety of Iris’ domain—or at least what remained of it because of the shrinking barrier that had been closing in for hours and pushing everyone toward the center—was covered in thick, menacing clouds that blotted out whatever light remained.

The ground began to freeze all over the place, the frost spreading like a disease across the surface.

Massive spikes started to erupt randomly from the earth without any warning, their jagged forms piercing through the frozen soil like deadly spears.

SWASH!

One of the spikes pierced one of the three insect-raced players that had been trying to fight the dragon, their chitinous armor offering no protection against the sheer force of the attack.

The ice penetrated through their body and killed them instantly before their corpse even hit the ground, the light fading from their eyes.

Tick!

The number of participants dropped once more, the counter ticking down relentlessly on the display above.

Though even though this caused one death, most of the others were rather fine for the moment, having managed to dodge the initial onslaught with quick reflexes and desperate leaps.

They simply dodged the spikes that erupted around them, their bodies moving on instinct, and after around thirty seconds, they even believed that it would all be fine and that they had weathered the worst of the storm that the dragon had to offer.

If that was the extent of the dragon’s forbidden spell, then who the hell cares? It wasn’t nearly as devastating as they had feared, and they could survive this with relative ease.

Alas, they were severely mistaken in their assessment of the situation, because the icy ground and spikes that had erupted were only the beginning of a much larger, more devastating attack.

One that would shake the very foundations of the domain and claim many more lives before it was done.

It began to snow across the domain, the white flakes drifting down gently from the sky like feathers.

It seemed relatively harmless as the flocons fell to the ground and dissipated upon contact, melting away without any visible effect or damage to the frozen landscape.

And at that very moment, when every piece of the puzzle was set in place and the stage was fully prepared for the grand finale, the dragon made its move and unleashed the true power of its forbidden spell.

ROOOOAR!

The snowgrave dragon roared with such force that the sound echoed across the entire place, shaking the very air itself.

And all hell broke loose as the true power of its forbidden spell was finally unleashed.

BAM!

In the distance, Leon watched as a massive pillar of snow and energy erupted from the sky toward the ground with devastating force.

The impact shook the earth and sent shockwaves rippling outward in all directions, the ground cracking from the sheer pressure.

The pillar’s impact was so powerful it sent a player who was near it flying through the air like a ragdoll, their body tumbling across the frozen ground, though it didn’t kill him outright, leaving him battered but alive and gasping for breath.

The freezing aura around the pillar was enough to completely freeze half of his body though, his limbs turning to ice and becoming useless as he tried to crawl away from the danger zone with desperate, dragging movements.

"HAHHH," he shouted as he tried to back away, his voice filled with panic and desperation as the cold seeped deeper into his frozen flesh.

But of course, fate had other plans for him, and the domain was not done claiming its victims for the day.

SWASH!

Right at that moment, one of the giant ice spikes erupted from the ground to impale him, eliminating him from the event permanently, his body falling lifeless to the frozen ground.

Leon understood the moment it activated that [Snowgrave] was unlike any forbidden spell he had seen before.

Its objective was not simply to destroy everything in one massive blast, to help you escape a situation, or to power you up.

It was to disorient you by launching dozens upon dozens of attacks that could all kill you from any direction without warning.

The icy ground made you slide uncontrollably, preventing any stable footing or ability to dodge effectively, the constant ice spikes erupted without warning from below, and the most deadly of all, the snow pillars that rained down from above, if you caught between them, you would die for sure with no chance of escape or survival.

And to make it even worse, the dragon was not done with its assault and continued to press its advantage.

BAM!

In the middle of the domain, right where the snowgrave dragon was standing in all its frozen glory, the sky opened up even wider, and the biggest snow pillar of them all erupted downward, descending with catastrophic force toward the ground where the dragon stood.

Leon instantly activated [Time Stop] as the attack hit, his entire being almost freezing on the spot from the sheer cold radiating from the massive pillar of ice.

Fwoosh!

He ran away from where the snowgrave dragon was, his legs pumping with all his might as he pushed through the frozen air, and managed to get out of the radius just in time for the entire area where he had been to explode in ice shockwaves that would have shattered him completely into pieces.

’Did Orion die?’ Leon thought, a glimmer of hope in his mind as he considered the possibility, ’That would be great actually, one less problem to deal with.’

"Looks like you really are inferior," Orion laughed loudly as he stood close to the pillar, completely unfazed by the cold that was killing everyone else, "Something like this can make you all scram like rats!"

"He’s immune to the ice?" Leon’s eyes widened, his mind racing as he tried to understand how, "Damn...!"

"Not just the ice," Orion shook his head, a smug smile on his face, "But it would be foolish to tell you about my talent, so lets end this!"

Fwoosh!

With a powerful blitz of energy, Orion swung his holy blade, forcing Leon to deflect the attack with his own sword, the clash sending sparks flying through the frozen air.

"Shouldn’t you focus on the dragon?" Leon shouted.

"Its killing the other players," Orion shook his head, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent, "I’ll deal with it once nobody is left and I have the domain to myself."

SLASH!

Leon pushed back Orion with a powerful shove, then looked ahead as dozens of snow pillars erupted all over the place.

It truly looked like an apocalyptic scene, with players running around frantically to avoid getting impaled or frozen alive, their screams echoing through the frozen plains.

And yet, the worse hadn’t even come yet.

Because after the snowgrave dragon’s forbidden spell settled if not just a little, it seemed like it was finally for Leon’s turn to unleash his own destruction upon the domain.

Fwoosh!

The sky above the domain opened up even more than before, tearing apart at the seams, and a massive purple vortex appeared, shaking the atmosphere with its ominous presence that made everyone look up in fear.

’Finally!’ Leon thought as he dodged an attack coming from Orion, his body moving on instinct, ’I guess the dragon’s spell slowed mine a little, it usually comes out faster.’

And of course, without any further delay, the meteor began its descent.

BOOM!

In a massive explosion that attracted everyone’s attention—even the dragon—who seemed confused by the sudden appearance of another threat, the massive meteor appeared in the sky from the vortex, its purple flames burning with intense heat that contrasted with the freezing cold of the dragon’s spell.

Orion looked up, his eyes widening slightly at the unexpected twist, "What the—"

SLASH!

Leon swung his sword at that moment, forcing Orion back as he used his wings to fly away from the incoming attack.

After a few seconds only, the oblivion meteor fully came out of the vortex in all its glory, the purple flames behind it burning with aura as it came down crashing toward the ground with unstoppable force that nothing could withstand.

Everyone looking at that thing understood that it was much more different than [Snowgrave] in its approach and execution, a completely different kind of threat.

Because [Oblivion Meteor] wasn’t a forbidden spell aimed to overwhelm you with countless smaller attacks, instead, it was simply meant to destroy everything in its path, no matter what stood in its way, pure and simple devastation.

It rushed toward the ground faster and faster, about to destroy everything within its massive radius, the ground trembling beneath its shadow.

’The only way to live through that is to be at the edges of the domain,’ Leon thought, his mind racing, ’So I hope Violet, Celeste and Emilia are there, away from the impact zone.’

Because if not, then they unfortunately would die too, since the meteor didn’t discriminate between friend and foe, it would destroy everything equally.

In fact, even Leon himself would die from the impact, his body crushed by his own spell, though he didn’t care much about it since he knew he would revive from his own death.
