Chapter 385: Chapter 385: The Sand Centipede [2], Orion The Angel

SNAP!

The centipede bit off the head of a demon-race player that tried to attack it, its massive jaws closing around the unfortunate victim, and the moment he saw it, Leon made his move.

’Wait a minute, couldn’t I have just used [Oblivion Meteor]?’ Leon thought as he rushed forward, ’Oh well, I’ll keep it for later when I really need it.’

SLASH!

He swung at the centipede’s head while it was still devouring the player, his blade arcing through the air with deadly intent, and right as his sword was about to cut it, something unexpected happened.

"Not so fast, Celestial."

Right before Leon’s eyes, the angel-race player he had seen in Iris’ garden appeared before him, materializing out of thin air.

He had literally blitzed into existence out of nowhere in front of him, making Leon’s eyes widen in shock at the display of speed.

SLAM!

Then the angel smashed his leg into Leon’s chest, sending him flying backward through the air, and summoned his golden blade in a flash of light.

SLASH!

He used it to cut the centipede’s head off in one clean motion, killing it instantly and transforming its massive body into blue mana particles that entered his [Mana Jar].

But what shocked Leon the most was the sheer amount of mana points the angel had already accumulated in his jar.

The jar was literally almost half full, and it had only been around 2-3 hours since the event started, a truly incredible pace.

The angel had likely killed a lot of "impossible" rank monsters already, far more than Leon had managed.

"Oh wow, 30 Mana Points from this!" the angel beamed with joy, "Thank you for softening it up for me!"

"YOU..." Leon gritted his teeth as he got up, his hands shaking from anger at having his kill stolen from right under his nose.

"Come on, Celestial, you did it for those elves back then, you didn’t expect for you to be the only one to steal kills, right?" the angel shook his head, "Oh well, fair is fair in this event."

Leon immediately used [Time Stop] to close the distance with the angel, his body moving through the frozen moment.

He couldn’t allow this guy to remain alive, both because he stole his kill but also since he had a LOT of mana points that could secure his victory.

If he allowed this person to live, he would definitely be first place and gain the top rewards, leaving nothing for Leon.

SLASH!

Leon swung while time was stopped, his blade cutting through the frozen air, and as it returned his swing was only centimeters away from meeting the angel’s body.

Yet even with such a short amount of time to react, the angel responded with impossible speed.

Clash!

The angel turned around and met Leon’s sword with his own, their blades clashing in a shower of sparks.

"You can teleport, huh?" the angel grinned, pushing Leon back with surprising strength, "Unfortunately for you, I can react to attacks even if they are 0.1 second away from hitting me."

Leon could feel the backlash of using [Time Stop] even more now, the threads of time tightening around him, he knew he couldn’t use a fourth time without risking collapse.

"I don’t feel like fighting you yet," the angel shrugged casually, "See you later, the name’s Orion by the way."

Before Leon could react, the angel spread his wings and flew into the sky toward another district of the ruined city, leaving Leon there alone with his thoughts.

"Hah..." Leon’s expression darkened, his eyes narrowing, "...I see."

It seemed like Leon had just unlocked a second objective from this trial, one that had nothing to do with the mana points.

No matter what he did, or what happened, he would kill this angel and make sure he got nothing from this event.

Tick!

[169 participants remain.]

"Still going strong, huh," Leon muttered, looking at the participant count.

Almost half of the participants had already been eliminated in a few hours, a staggering rate of elimination, and though Leon didn’t fear for Violet’s safety, he truly wondered how Emilia and Celeste were doing in their own parts of the domain.

Of course he tried to open his [World Map] to check on them, hoping to see their locations.

Beep!

[You are not allowed to do that here.]

This meant that he couldn’t check out their whereabouts even if he wanted to, leaving him in the dark about their status.

Still though, the centipede had killed so many people that the ruined city probably lost almost all of its participants, clearing the area of competition.

Which also meant that Leon would be able to get a lot more monsters than before without interference from other players.

’I guess that thing was a blessing in disguise after all,’ Leon thought, a grim smile forming on his face.

Well, that is if Orion didn’t kill them all first, with the speed he was going, Leon really doubted there would be any monsters left for him.

’Do I need to move to another area?’ Leon wondered, considering his options.

The sole presence of Orion was enough to make everything Leon planned to do go completely wrong, his strategy thrown into disarray.

Because even if every single other participant was gone and eliminated, the angel would still be there, accumulating mana points and securing his victory.

And Leon could feel it from his aura alone: he was the strongest player in this event by far, a truly formidable opponent.

Facing such a strong player, Leon knew he’d need to ambush him and kill him when he least expected it, or find a way to kill more monsters faster than he could.

’Well, he didn’t seem to wanna kill me yet, so I guess he doesn’t consider me as a threat?’ Leon thought.

He did say Leon’s ID though, meaning that he knew that Leon was Celestial and had some awareness of his reputation.

Still, Leon knew he couldn’t waste this opportunity, and so he dashed forward, vowing to kill as many monsters (and participants) as he saw in the remaining time.

He was still aiming for the top one after all, only these rewards interested him and he wouldn’t let anyone stand in his way.
