Chapter 384: Chapter 384: The Sand Centipede [1]

Even though Leon had only stayed in the [Eternal Domain] for around a month in his past life, the few he encountered had all been terrifying beyond belief.

The centipede was Leon’s first reminder of this kind of power in this life, a wake-up call that he still had a long way to go.

In fact, right as he was about to jump from his position to attack once more, another player appeared on the scene.

BOOM!

He heard a powerful blast, and saw a giant bullet hit the centipede’s body with incredible force, the impact shaking the ground.

Of course, the bullet didn’t even crack the centipede’s body, but the power of the bullet was monstrous, far beyond what a normal player could produce.

If the [Broken Ape] was the one who faced it, it would have surely died from that single shot.

"Holy shit, nothing?!" the player shouted.

The player that had fired that bullet held a massive cannon over his shoulders, and he seemed to be from the minotaur race, his muscular frame straining under the weight of his weapon.

Of course, he immediately tried to fire another one of these powerful shots but, before he could even aim properly, the centipede struck back.

Swoosh!

Before he or Leon even realized what was happening, the centipede’s antennas snapped the man’s head from above, killing him instantly before returning to hiding among the rubble.

A chill went down Leon’s spine as he saw that, quickly making him back away and reassess the situation.

’Holy shit,’ he thought, his heart racing, ’Wait a minute, where the hell is Alphox?!’

Leon looked down to see that the baby dragon was still down there and seemingly trying to attack one of the centipede’s body parts, completely unaware of the danger he was in.

’Goddamn it,’ Leon thought grimly, preparing to dive down and save his pet before it was too late.

SLASH!

Leon had to tank several swipes of the centipede’s massive body to go down toward Alphox’s location, his barrier absorbing the brunt of the impacts as he pushed through the monster’s relentless assault.

And even then, he watched as the baby dragon repeatedly tried to attack without success, its tiny claws scraping uselessly against the creature’s impenetrable armor.

’Not really smart yet, huh,’ Leon sighed as he saw his pet, a hint of exasperation in his voice.

It was still just a baby after all, far from evolving into the [Primordial Dragon of Chaos] that it would become in the future, so its instincts were still developing.

As Leon saw the centipede’s body about to crash on the baby dragon, he made a split-second decision and used his second [Time Stop] of the event.

Time stopped right as the centipede’s body was about to crash down, freezing everything in place, allowing Leon to grab the baby dragon and pull him to safety.

SMASH!

And right as he took it out of the attack’s way, time resumed and the centipede smashed where the dragon had been, the ground cracking from the impact.

A bead of sweat appeared on Leon’s forehead after using the forbidden spell for the second time, but that didn’t mean he was exhausted yet, he still had some energy left in reserve.

He could feel the threads of time slowly notice him and "punish" him for what he did, a familiar fatigue settling into his muscles.

Leon immediately attempted to climb onto another building to think of another solution but before he could get very far, the centipede launched another attack.

Sand Webs!

The centipede began excreting threads made out of sand toward them from its body, trying to catch them and trap them in place.

And due to the centipede’s massive size, it truly let a LOT of it out, enough for Leon to be forced to dodge continuously or slash through just to keep moving.

Thankfully, he managed to escape from the centipede’s attacks and climbed onto the roof of a building on the verge of collapse, his breath coming in heavy gasps.

Then Leon finally let go of Alphox and crouched down, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of the monster’s weakness.

The sand centipede seemed to have abandoned trying to find them as it started to move around once more, its massive body slithering through the streets.

’Need to find the head,’ Leon thought, ’But it won’t reveal it easily so... I need someone else to draw it out.’

It had only appeared when it was resting and Leon discovered it, and when it killed that minotaur player who had fired at it.

Meaning that if he wanted to kill that thing, he needed to make use of other people as bait to draw its head out into the open.

Thankfully, all that fighting had been enough to attract almost every player in the [Ruined City], the sounds of combat echoing through the streets.

Within a few minutes, only six participants appeared, 4 of them alone while two were in a group, all drawn by the commotion.

At first they tried to attack each other as well as the centipede, chaos erupting in the plaza, but realizing that the monster was too strong, they decided to simply focus on it together.

Alas, they stood no chance, and the centipede killed them all with brutal efficiency, their bodies falling one by one.

’Goddamn it, it just used its body this time,’ Leon’s expression darkened, ’Not good, it’s adapting.’

More players appeared after that, drawn by the sounds of battle and the screams, and if it wasn’t for the gravity of the situation, Leon would have almost found it funny how many were falling to this single monster.

Because after around an hour, and around 22 players killed, none of them managed to even make a dent on the centipede’s impenetrable body.

Leon even wondered if he shouldn’t just move on as this seemed to be a waste of time and effort, but something held him back.

But after being patient enough, like a predator watching its prey from the shadows, the centipede finally made a mistake.

One that Leon could use to finally win this battle and get the mana points.

’Here we go,’ he grinned devilishly, his sword gleaming.
