Chapter 528: Surpassing The Dragons
Chapter 528 - Surpassing True Dragons
{Fascinating!}
At the same time that the ill-foreboding pain made me question my sanity, the Green Dragon made a strong exclamation all of the sudden.
As weird as it was, I always tended to zone out whenever I dove into experimentation mode so I didn’t notice, but the friendly Dragon had been watching the entire show with zeal.
’If even I was surprised it makes sense that- Ugh... I have to deal with this first.’
I was eager to hear a True Dragon’s opinion about my Advanced Dragonization, but in order to switch perspectives I had to end the experiment first.
Having already come to a conclusion about the cause of the pain, I went ahead and retracted the Draconic Crown.
’It’s a time-limited ability.’
Considering how overpowered the Draconic Crown was, it only made sense that it would have some limitations, but that didn’t make confirming these limitations any less disappointing.
Regardless, the true source of the problem wasn’t clear just yet. It was obvious that prolonged use of the Draconic Crown could cause some serious damage, but the kind of damage remained to be seen.
’Is it the tool? Or my actual brain?’
If the ability’s description was to be taken literally, the Draconic Crown was very similar to a dog whistle that worked on elements or anything associated with a Law. However...
’Which of them is the fragile one?’
If using it was like speaking a special microphone then did the pain mean that this microphone was far from sturdy or was it too radioactive for my throat?
With the pain coming from deep inside, the latter guess was more plausible. Yet, considering how the crown literally sprouted from my skull, that pain could be its way of sending a strong distress signal.
In fact, the ivory crown could very well be connected to my brain through some sort of needle-like cables.
If the thin bony bonds had to endure pressure for the whole time the Draconic Crown was out, it could also explain the internal pain.
’I wouldn’t see it doesn’t matter, but either way, there is only one way to solve the problem.’
I still wanted to dissect the specifics of the matter, but for now, the case had to be dismissed with a strong reminder to use the Draconic Crown in short bursts.
"So, what do you think?"
With that matter set aside, I turned back to the Green Dragon, hoping to gauge how close I came to imitating a True Dragon.
{Like I said, simply fascinating. I thought the scope of my expectations was already too high, but you somehow managed to exceed it by a lot.}
The praise of a True Dragon definitely helped soothe the pain that lingered behind even after the Draconic Crown had been retracted.
{Breathing out natural elements was within these expectations, but that peculiar crown is hard to fathom even for True Dragons such as myself. If I hadn’t seen it in person, I would have immediately denied such a possibility.}
Although I shared the Green Dragon’s opinion, I didn’t think his reaction would be just as strong.
{As both their companion and representative, a Dragon’s bond with their perspective Law is a unique innate ability that almost no species could hope to replicate. Yet, you have somehow managed to replicate it in this ridiculous manner.}
His deeper acknowledgement obviously showed the gap between our perspectives.
{Its effects may be very partial, but the way it works is almost exactly the same. The moment you put that crown on, my senses were truly fooled into believing that another True Dragon was standing right in front of me.}
’Is it that serious?’
Although I only felt it a few times, the presence of a True Dragon wasn’t something to scoff at.
Even the Sky Dragon in its corrupted state made everyone feel like the sky was falling just by being there.
{However, what truly set this curious crown beyond my expectations is its lack of limits. It is still reasonable for an anomaly half-dragon to surpass the rest of its peers and achieve extreme likeness to a Dragon, but to even throw away the shackles of us Dragons makes you a completely different breed!}
’...Wait.’
Did the pain cause my brain to short-circuit? With the Green Dragon’s reminder, I woke up to the fact that I had missed the most important test during my experimentation.
Without further ado, I opened my mouth once more. However, this time, the elements that coagulated together were Ice elements.
Before throwing it out, I ignored the risks and called out the Draconic Crown once more.
Thankfully, just like the Draconic Wings, the sensational torture that I received when using the ability for the first time didn’t repeat, but I didn’t care if it did.
All I wanted to do was confirm the Green Dragon’s words!
Feeling the Draconic Crown taking effect, I immediately fired out my first ice breath, and the result was...
’Success!’
The type of damage was different, but it was easy for me to tell that this attack enjoyed the same 200% boost that the upgraded fire breath had received.
The Draconic Crown had passed the versatility test with flying colors!
’It’s undeniably an even crazier cheat if you look at it from this perspective.’
A True Dragon’s might was incredible, but according to the Green Dragon, their limit stemmed from the same rules that empowered them.
Each Dragon was naturally bound to a specific set of Laws, and only through these Laws could they reproduce their famed strength.
No matter how great they were, a Dragon could never control any type of power that was unrelated to their bound Laws, even the elements in their most basic form.
’Somehow, this limitation makes them so human-like.’
Let alone using Laws, most humans had no idea about their existence. However, they also shared the same shackle in the form of constraining Attributes!
On the other hand...
’This has to be the influence of Omni-Mastery.’
I was once again reminded of the anomalous nature of my broken Innate Ability.
