John’s gaze shifted between the monster and the shelter. He wouldn’t care about Theodore’s shelter, but Theodore can easily find a new place. This time it wasn’t just about him - there were others in that shelter who couldn’t fight for themselves.
Taking a deep breath, John steeled himself and turned to face the Draconian head on. John was ready for a fight, his eyes blazing with determination. His muscles tensed, and his jaw clenched as he stared down the beast.
Stephanie, Julia and Dalia stepped forward and stood beside John, their weapons at the ready.
"We have to defeat the boss," John said, his voice strained. "If we can’t, we’re all dead."
"What are we waiting for?" Stephanie asked.
"For the right time," John replied.
Julian stared at John and the girls. He hated him. They were fighting back, while he was hiding behind them. He hated himself. He couldn’t believe he was such a coward. He was afraid, but he knew he had to do something.
John raised his dagger and rushed at the boss monster. The Draconian roared and swung its claw at him. He dodged the attack and slashed at the monster’s leg, but the blade bounced off the creature’s scales.
The Draconian roared and slammed its tail into the ground, knocking John off his feet. John scrambled to his feet and tried to slash at the monster’s leg again, but the Draconian’s tail whipped him in the chest, sending him flying through the air.
John hit the ground hard, the air knocked out of him. His ribs ached, and his head spun, but he forced himself to stand. The others from the shelter launched their attacks. Spells of fiery projectiles and swift arrows soared through the air towards their monstrous foe.
Julian rushed forward and slashed at the monster’s leg, but his blade barely left a scratch.
"Fuck," Julian cursed.
"Keep fighting!" John shouted, his voice hoarse.
John launched another attack on the Draconian, but the monster knocked him away with a swipe of its claw.
John rolled across the ground and crashed into a building, sending chunks of concrete flying through the air.
John’s eyes narrowed as he appraised the monster. The Draconian was stronger than him. If he could have a few more buffs, maybe he could win.
John gritted his teeth and lunged at the monster, but the Draconian slammed its tail into his side, sending him crashing into another building.
John groaned and staggered to his feet, his ribs aching and his head spinning.
"Julia, give me your Agility Buff!"
"Okay," she replied. A glowing aura surrounded John’s body, and he felt a surge of energy course through his veins.
John sprinted towards the Draconian and leapt into the air, slashing at the monster’s neck with his blade. The monster’s scales deflected the attack, but the force of the blow caused the creature to stumble.
As the battle raged on, John steered the beast away from the shelter. He knew it was reckless and foolish, but he didn’t want to see the Draconian kill innocent people.
John leapt into the air, but instead of using his dagger, a dark, shadowy claw emerged out of him and slashed the monster’s back. Blood spurted out and John grinned as he realised his Shadow Claw was strong enough to hurt the beast.
John sprinted towards the Draconian and leapt into the air. His Shadow Claw emerged from his palm and slashed the monster’s neck, drawing blood once again.
The Draconian roared and whirled around, its jaws snapping at John.
Julia, Stephanie and Dalia attacked the Draconian, but their attacks had no effect. The Draconian was too powerful.
John clicked his tongue, the Draconian’s scales were too hard. John would have to chip away at its scaly armour before they could seriously injure the beast. Just as John and his allies began to make progress, however, the Draconian let out a deafening roar that shook the very ground beneath them. Suddenly, flames seemed to materialise from thin air around the monstrous creature,
The Draconian unleashed a stream of fire from its mouth, engulfing John and his companions in a blazing inferno.
John screamed as his flesh was seared by the flames, and the acrid smoke choked him. He launched himself away from the flames with a blast from his Shockwave skill.
John hit the ground hard, his clothes in tatters and his skin scorched and burned.

"John, are you okay?" Julia called out to him, rushing to his side.
"I’ll be fine," he groaned.
The battle raged on with ferocity as fighters clashed swords and magical abilities were unleashed against the monstrous Draconian. With each passing moment, more people fled from the joined the battle to take up arms against this fearsome beast. Soon, it found itself surrounded by an ever-growing throng of brave souls who refused to back down in their fight for survival. Sweat dripped from foreheads and exhaustion showed on faces as these heroes threw everything they had at their unwavering foe - only to be met with snarls of defiance and swipes of a tail that could knock them off their feet in an instant.
The flames around the Draconian had begun to burn brighter and John gritted his teeth. How was he supposed to get close enough to strike a good blow?
A loud bang rang out as someone fired a projectile from far away and the Draconian let out a growl of pain as the projectile tore through its shoulder.
"Nice shot," John shouted. He couldn’t see who it was, but he was grateful for the opportunity.
John sprinted towards the Draconian, using his Shadow Claw skill again. He leapt into the air and slashed the monster’s chest, carving out a deep gash. The Draconian roared and lunged at John, but John sidestepped the attack and slashed the monster’s arm.
Blood spurted from the wound, but the Draconian was undeterred. It swung its tail, slamming John in the chest. John tumbled to the ground, coughing up blood.
The Draconian stomped on his chest, crushing his ribs. John screamed in agony as the monster’s talons pierced his flesh.
"John!" Julia cried out, rushing towards him.
The Draconian lifted its foot and John struggled to stand, blood pouring from his wounds.
Dalia launched a fireball at the Draconian, hitting it in the face. The monster roared in pain and fury.
John’s vision blurred, and he stumbled to his feet, his legs weak.
"You’re not alone," Julia said, placing her hand on his shoulder.
Her touch was warm and soothing, and John felt his strength return.
"Thank you," John said, his voice hoarse.
He charged at the Draconian and swung his dagger whilst blood spurted. The Venomlash’s venom had begun to affect the beast. It moved slower and couldn’t react in time. Just then, another projectile hit the beast from far away.
The Draconian roared, enraged by the pain and humiliation. It launched a barrage of fireballs, engulfing everyone in flames.
John and his allies launched attacks and dodged the fireballs. They were relentless in their assault, and soon, the Draconian’s body was covered in cuts and gashes.
That’s when he noticed all the cuts on the monster’s neck had completely removed its scales. John grinned and propelled himself forward with his Shockwave skill. He channelled his Critical Hit skill, ready to end it all.
He thrust his dagger into the Draconian’s neck, piercing its jugular. Blood spurted from the wound, and the monster let out a dying roar.
The Draconian fell to the ground, its blood staining the ground crimson. It looked at John, its eyes filled with hate and pain, and then, it breathed its last.
