Chapter 307: The Ambush -3
"Are you sure about this?" Hatoru asked, his brow furrowed.
"Yes, sir," Simon replied. "It’s the same boy."
A grin spread across Hatoru’s face.
"Then that’s excellent news. We can finally put an end to this little problem once and for all."
"I’ve already informed the police commissioner. He’s sending every available officer in the area."
Hatoru waved a dismissive hand. "Seems excessive for one kid. We have enough men to handle him."
"I thought it would make cleanup easier," Simon said. "The boy mentioned something about bringing an army. I suspect it has something to do with Mason Blackfire, since it matches what Roman reported"
"Hm." Hatoru stroked his beard.
"Fine. Just make sure he doesn’t leave this property alive. I’d like this nuisance gone for good."
"Of course, sir."
"What about the girl?"
"She’s somewhere in the building with your granddaughter. I can confirm she hasn’t left the premises."
"Find her and bring her to me."
His tone remained calm, almost casual.
"And send some men to fetch her mother and sister. Maybe watching them lose a few fingers will help correct her attitude."
---
Yohan sat in the passenger seat while Gunjoo drove.
Behind them sat eight men, four on each side of the van. Three more vans followed close behind.
Even for Gunjoo’s crew, this was a major operation.
"Tell me you’re sure about this," Graham called from the back. "We could’ve brought more people."
"That would’ve ruined the plan," Gunjoo replied with a sigh. "We need to get in and out fast."
"And whose brilliant plan is this?" His eyes shifted toward Yohan.
"You didn’t have to come if you didn’t want to," Gunjoo said.
Before Graham could answer, two police cars sped past them.
Then another.
And another.
By the time the van rounded the corner, everyone fell silent.
Police vehicles completely blocked the entrance to the estate and a few even inside the compound.
"What the fuck..."
Gunjoo instinctively slowed down before driving past.
"I told you this was fishy," Graham growled. "This boy can’t be trusted."
Yohan stared through the rear window.
The blockade grew smaller and smaller.
His expression remained blank.
’Did Jenna sell me out?’ The thought felt absurd.
After he had gone out of his way just to protect her.
"Drop me off."
"Huh?"
"Stop the car."
The calmness in Yohan’s voice was somehow more alarming than anger.
Gunjoo pulled over near a corner.
"Yohan, what exactly are you planning to do?"
"Go back."
"You can’t seriously be thinking of doing this alone."
"I am."
"That’s a suicide mission. You’ll be lucky if they only arrest you."
Yohan ignored him and opened the door.
Then he pointed at one of Graham’s men.
"Lend me your mask."
"Fuck no." the guy said at a heartbeat.
Yohan frowned.
"Actually, never mind. Looking at you, there’s no telling when that thing was last washed."
"You little—"
"Use mine."
Graham pulled a fresh mask from his pocket and tossed it over.
"Thank you."
Yohan slipped it on his head without pulling it over his face.
As the door shut behind him, Graham kept watching.
"Gunjoo."
"Yeah?"
"Are you really sure about this kid?"
"Yep."
Gunjoo smiled, "He’s an absolute monster, we just need to convince him to join us."
"That is," Graham said, watching Yohan walk away, "if he doesn’t get himself killed first."
---
Yohan crossed the street alone. Each step was calm and Measured.
Inside, however, his thoughts were a storm.
He still couldn’t fully accept that Jenna might have betrayed him, but that had to be it, otherwise the was no way for the cops to know he was coming.
Then again...
If she really had—
’There is no reason to hold back anymore’
His eyes hardened.
Maybe this was exactly what he needed. Losing his emotional connection with her would make what he was about to do easier.
No restraints.
No caution.
No mercy.
He pulled the mask over his face.
Then he sprinted.
The pavement cracked beneath his feet.
In an instant he reached the fence.
He didn’t climb it, he scaled over it with only one hand.
The moment he landed, his legs compressed like springs.
Then he launched himself toward the main house.
A police officer spotted him immediately.
"Freeze!"
The officer drew his weapon.
"Take one more step and I’ll shoot!"
Yohan stopped.
Not because he was afraid, but because he was waiting.
He pressed two fingers against his neck.
Then touched his forehead.
’Mind Unlock’
The world slowed.
The flutter of an insect’s wings echoed through the air.
Distant footsteps became heavy like thunder.
Every heartbeat around him sounded crystal clear.
He watched the officer’s finger begin squeezing the trigger.
Millimeter by millimeter.
Bang!
The gunshot shattered the silence.
Across the estate, heads turned.
---
"Seems our guest has arrived." Hatoru smiled as he looked out the window.
Hidden inside a pantry in the kitchen storage, Izumi flinched.
"What was that?" she whispered. "Was that a gunshot?"
"I think so," Jenna replied quietly.
Her stomach sank.
Yohan was here.
And that meant everything was already falling apart.
"I have to help him."
Izumi grabbed her arm.
"Jenna, no. They’ll kill you if they find you."
"They’ll find us eventually anyway." she said with an empty expression.
"We can stay here. We just have to wait. I’ll explain everything to my grandfather after. He’ll understand."
The panic in her voice was very evident, almost like she was the one personally in danger.
Jenna let out a bitter laugh. "Do you really think he’ll listen?"
"He has to. He wouldn’t hurt you when he knows how close we’ve gotten, I promise." She sounded even more desperate to save her friend.
"Maybe not."
Jenna looked directly into her eyes.
"But what about my family?"
Izumi froze.
"Do you think he’ll spare them because we’re friends?"
The question struck like a knife.
Because they both knew the answer, deep down there was no denying it.
Jenna pulled away.
"Stay here."
Then she opened the pantry door and disappeared.
